By STA’s Account Manager, Grace Mallon
Game 4 - Pack the SleighUsing woggles and woggle connectors make Santa’s sleigh, using floats take one at a time to put on the sleigh.
Alternative option is to make a production line where Elves pass the present along the line (optional treading water) then when the elf at the end of the line places it on the sleigh he/she swims to the start and the next present starts to be passed.
Game 5 - Polar ExpressCreate a train by asking learners to hold the ends of the woggle of the person in front, learners must move through the pool as a train stopping at stations; snowman station, jingle bell station, angel station, holly station, snowflake station etc.
Game 6 - What time is it Santa?Choose a learner to be Santa and face the wall/opposite direction
12 days to Christmas, 11 days to Christmas, 10 days, 9 days and so on - equals the amount of steps/strokes the elves take towards Santa
When Santa shouts - “Christmas Time” all the elves have got to sprint back to the grotto whilst Santa tries to catch an elf.
Safety tip: The teacher must not be Santa so as not to take their eyes off learners when turning around.
Game 3 - Collect the BaublesThrow lots of multi coloured balls in the pool, elves (learners) move/swim to collect one at a time and bring them back to put in the Christmas decoration box.
Game 11 - Down the ChimneyUse a woggle and woggle connector to create a circle (chimney top), learners jump through the chimney top like Santa, but as Santa has eaten lots of pies he needs to tuck in tight (pencil) so he can fit through without getting stuck.
Game 7 - Santa’s GrottoUsing woggles and woggle connectors make a tunnel, elves (learners) go through the tunnel into ‘Santa’s grotto’ to find a gift to bring back through the grotto entrance and place in the sleigh on the side.
Game 8 - Floating SnowflakesHow long can you be a snowflake before you melt competition (learners stay in star float).
Game 12 - Ice HolesUse woggles and woggle connectors to create lots of circles and place at different points in the pool, polar bears/penguins/seals (learners) must swim underwater and come up in the circles (gaps in the ice) to take a breath before swimming to the next hole.
Safety tip: Make sure the task is suitable for the ability of the children and do not place rings too far apart, explain that if they need to they can ‘break the ice’ and come up at any point.
Game 13 - Stuff the StockingPersonal Survival/Water Safety
Elves are swimming in their clothes, when they get to the deeper water they must take off their trousers whilst treading water and tie a knot in the ends of them, then stuff them like a stocking with as many ‘gifts’ as possible. When the gifts have all gone elves come back to the start and count the number of gifts in their stocking, most gifts wins.
Game 9 - Reindeer RacesKnot one woggle and place another woggle through the knot, learner sits on the woggle like on a reindeer and holds the reindeer’s antlers. Give each reindeer a name Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder, Blixem and Rudolph. Reindeers race a distance specified by Santa (teacher).
Game 10 - Frozen ElvesOne ‘naughty elf’ is on and must tag the other elves, when tagged the elf is frozen and must stand/float with his/her arms out like a snowflake, the other elves can free the frozen elf by swimming under the elf’s outstretched arm. Game finishes when either all the elves are frozen or after 3 minutes the number of frozen elves can be counted and that is the ‘naughty elf’s’ score.
Game 16 - Santa’s SleighKnot one woggle and place another woggle through the knot, elf (learner) sits on the woggle like on a reindeer and hold the reindeer’s antlers. Place 2 reindeer at the front, place a woggle around the elf’s waist and the rider of the reindeer behind holds the ends, continue this process until all your learners are in pairs one behind the other. Final pair are attached to the sleigh via woggle connectors and the sleigh is ready to be pulled.
Note: This game can easily follow on from game 4, after the sleigh is packed
Game 14 - Naughty Elves
The ‘naughty elves’ want to play a trick on Santa and move the gifts but they must go through the obstacle course to get them out the grotto, one at a time.
Two teams if you want to make it a competition, relay format.
Ideas: Woggles and connectors to make the entrance tunnel to ‘Santa’s grotto’, under the ice diving hoops, sinkers in the grotto, ice holes to come up for a breath (woggle circles and connectors), throw rope or reach pole so the team can pull in the naughty elf on their way back to go faster.
Safety Tip: Ensure the space and equipment is sufficient for two elves to go at the same time if completing it as a replay.
Game 15 - Reindeer Relays
Recommended Equipment
Knot one woggle and place another woggle through the knot, the learner sits on the woggle like on a reindeer and holds the reindeer’s antlers. Give each reindeer a name Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blixen and Rudolph. Reindeer race as relays over a distance specified by Santa (teacher).
