2008 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS | 10 CONFERENCE TITLES | 8 NCAA PLAYOFFS | 57 ALL-AMERICANS SINCE ‘69 INSIDE e Game • Richmond plays its second-to-last home game of the year Saturday, hosting Massachusetts and look- ing to keep its playoff hopes alive. • e Spiders have slipped out of the Top 25 this week and are playing their first game as an unranked team since the fourth week of the 2007 season (59 games). • Saturday’s game also marks the first since 2004 that Richmond and UMass are meeting with neither team ranked. • UMass leads the all-time series 13-12, but Richmond has won three straight and four of the last five meetings. e series dates back to 1984 when the teams were Yankee Conference foes. Quick Slants • Richmond has scored first in six of the seven games this season and is out-scoring the opposition 43-7 in the first quarter. • Senior WR Tre Gray (pictured) became the Spiders’ all-time leader in both receptions (208) and receiving yards (2,725) last week, surpassing the 26-year records held by former NASA astronaut Leland Melvin (198 and 2,669). Gray is third among all active FCS players in career catches and yards. • With 811 yards through seven games, Gray is on pace for just the third 1,000-yard season by a receiver in school history. e last time was 1992 when Rod Boothes set the school’s single-season record with 1,115 yards. • Gray leads CAA Football and is fourth in the FCS in both catches (8.6/game) and yards (115.9/game). • Gray and redshirt freshman Stephen Bar- nette are the league’s top two clutch WRs on third down this season, with Gray converting 12 times on 14 third-down plays, while Barnette is 12 for 12. • Senior QB Aaron Corp is coming off his third 300-yard game this season, going 32-of-44 with 301 yards and two TDs versus Maine. Corp has thrown for 2,429 yards in his 12 games at Richmond and is just 63 yards shy of cracking the Spiders’ career Top 10. • Corp’s streak of 147 attempts without an in- terception (dating back to Sept. 24 vs. UNH) is the second-longest active streak in the FCS. • Getting three defensive linemen back from injury vs. Maine -- Kerry Wynn, Corey Jackson, Jacob Pierce -- Richmond limited Maine to just 71 yards rushing after allowing 222 yard/game over the previous three. • Although playing in just four games this season, Wynn’s four sacks are fifth-most in the league. He also has 5.0 TFL of his 14 total tackles and four QB hurries.
