The two teams split the series a year ago with Oakland registering a 13-10 decision at Arrowhead (9/20/09) while Kansas City took a 16-10 win at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum (11/15/09). The Chiefs haven’t registered a sweep in the series since 2006 while the Raiders last sweep came in 2001. The Chiefs are 30-11 (.732) overall vs. the Raiders dating back to ’90, including a ’91 AFC playoff tilt. The Chiefs had a nine-game winning streak snapped in 2007 at home against the Raiders, the longest victory stretch by either squad in this series. That nine-game winning streak against the Raiders ranks as the second-longest mark by the Chiefs against any one opponent, behind an 11-game winning streak over Denver from ’64-69. Kansas City has registered a 15-5 (.750) regular season record against the Raiders at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Oakland-Alameda Colesium since ’90. The Chiefs have won seven straight games at Oakland, which marks the longest such streak against the Raiders in league history. Kansas City owns a pair of postseason wins against the Raiders, including a 17-7 win in the ’69 AFL Championship Game (1/4/70) that sent the Chiefs to Super Bowl IV. Kansas City also claimed a 10-6 victory in the first postseason contest played at Arrowhead (12/28/91). The Chiefs are seeking to become the first team to ever register eight consecutive road wins against the Raiders. KC’s seven-game victory streak at Oakland ties as the NFL’s longest active road victory streak with the N.Y. Giants, who have won eight straight trips to Atlanta. KC and Oakland both enter the contest on the strength of two-game winning streaks and will battle for the top spot in the AFC West standings. The Chiefs are seeking to construct their second three-game victory string of the season, while the Raiders are hoping to win three straight for the first time since 2002. Head Coach Todd Haley’s squad is one of five AFC clubs with five or more victories. Kansas City registered its fifth victory in thrilling fashion as K Ryan Succop hit a 35-yard FG as time expired in overtime to give the Chiefs a 13-10 win vs. Buffalo (10/31). The Chiefs have registered three straight games with 200+ rushing yards for the first time since ’78 and are seeking to accomplish the feat in four straight contests for the first time in franchise history. The NFL’s top two rushing squads will square off on Sunday. Kansas City (190.4 ypg) leads the NFL, while Oakland (168.5 ypg) is second. The Chiefs have piled up 738 rushing yards in their last three games, a total higher than 12 teams have accumuated all season. Only the Raiders (1,348 yards) have more team rushing yards than the 1,204 combined yards produced by Chiefs RBs Jamaal Charles (666) and Thomas Jones (538). Chiefs QB Matt Cassel has compiled a 103.9 passer rating over his last five starts and has thrown 119 consecutive passes without an INT, the third-longest active streak in the NFL. WR Dwayne Bowe has caught a TD in three straight games, producing 12 receptions for 205 yards with five TDs over that span. The Chiefs have been even or positive in the turnover column in eight consecutive games, the club’s longest streak since 2003. Kansas City ranks fifth in scoring defense, permitting 17.4 ppg and has held six of its seven foes to 20 points or less. The Raiders have outscored their last two foes by a 92-to-34 margin, the club’s highest scoring output in back-to-back games since 2002. Oakland has also posted 500+ yards of total offense in those two contests, a first in that franchise’s history. Up next for Kansas City is a contest at Denver (11/14), while Oakland will enjoy a bye.

November 15, 2009 • Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum • 40,720

The Chiefs made critical plays at crucial junctures to claim their seventh consecutive victory at Oakland. Kansas City produced a 16-10 win at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum as S Mike Brown clinched the victory with an INT with 0:38 remaining, his second INT of the day. RB Jamaal Charles finished the contest with 103 rushing yards, including a 44-yard TD run, while K Ryan Succop banged through three FGs.

Raiders RB Michael Bush scampered for 60 yards down to the Kansas City four-yard line on the second play from scrimmage. Bush’s run set up a one-yard RB Justin Fargas TD two plays later, giving the Raiders the 7-0 lead with 12:42 left in the first quarter.

Following Oakland’s opening-drive score, QB Matt Cassel looked for WR Chris Chambers deep down the right sideline on third and 12 on the Chiefs opening drive, but his pass was intercepted by CB Chris Johnson.

It was punt-for-punt before Cassel sparked the offense with a 30-yard pass to Chambers. The drive stalled, setting up a 50-yard Succop FG to make the score 7-3 with 4:54 left in the first quarter.

KC forced Oakland three and out, but the momentum shifted right back to the Raiders as Chiefs RB Dantrell Savage muffed the punt which was recovered by LB Jon Condo at the KC 37-yard line. Oakland settled for its own 50-yard FG by K Sebastian Janikowski, making the score 10-3 with 2:10 left in the first quarter.

Faced with fourth and one at the Oakland 44-yard line, Head Coach Todd Haley left his offense on the field, and Charles reeled off a 44-yard TD run to tie the score at 10-10 with 12:25 left in the first half.

After another Raiders punt, Cassel went to work finding WR Dwayne Bowe for 41 yards down the left sideline to get in Oakland territory on the opening play of KC’s ensuing drive. Cassel then hit Chambers for 24 yards to move the ball to the Oakland seven-yard line. The drive stalled bringing out Succop for a 25-yard FG that gave KC a 13-10 lead with 6:48 left in the first half.

On their first possession in the second half, the Chiefs penetrated as deep as the Raiders 37-yard line. Succop’s 52-yard FG try sailed wide left, leaving the score 13-10 with 10:43 to go in the third quarter. Oakland could not take advantage as Janikowski misfired his own 45-yard attempt wide left, his initial miss of the year.

On Kansas City’s ensuing possession, Cassel hit Bowe for 12 yards, but Bowe had the ball jarred lose as he was being tackled. Multiple players from both squads attempted to gain possession of the ball before Chiefs G Brian Waters jumped on it at the Oakland 32-yard line to regain possession. But Kansas City would give it away on downs after failing to convert a fourth-and-one pass from the Oakland 14-yard line.

On Oakland’s next possession, Brown registered the Chiefs first takeaway of the day as he intercepted QB Bruce Gradkowski’s pass intended for WR Johnnie Lee Higgins. Cassel then orchestrated an eight-play drive that ended in Succop’s third field goal of the contest, this time from 31 yards out to extend the Kansas City lead to 16-10 with 6:17 left to play in the game. After a three and out by the Raiders, Kansas City got the ball back with 4:38 remaining and was able to run the clock down to the two-minute warning before giving the Raiders one final opportunity.

The Raiders took over at their own 20-yard line with 1:53 left to play. A 22-yard completion to WR Darrius Heyward-Bey that was upheld by a replay review moved the ball to the Kansas City 26-yard line with 0:38 remaining. Brown then hauled in his second interception at the 10-yard line, sealing a 16-10 victory.

K Ryan Succop nailed a 35-yard FG attempt as time expired in overtime to give the Chiefs a thrilling 13-10 victory over the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead.

Kansas City eclipsed the 200-yard rushing mark for the third straight week behind RBs Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles who racked up 177 rushing yards on 22 attempts.

Both teams were forced to punt on their first offensive possessions. The Chiefs then promptly marched into Buffalo territory. On fourth and two from Buffalo’s 19-yard line, the Chiefs eschewed a FG try and QB Matt Cassel was sacked by Bills NT Kyle Williams, giving Buffalo the football at their own 20.

The teams went punt for punt for the majority of the first half. With 3:54 left to play before intermission Charles tallied 67 yards on a 71-yard TD drive capped when Cassel found WR Dwayne Bowe from one yard out giving KC a 7-0 lead at half.

The Bills opened the second half with a 43-yard K Rian Lindell FG cutting KC's lead to 7-3. After the two clubs exchanged punts, the Chiefs then went back to their running game, rushing the ball 10 consecutive times to pick up 54 yards moving them to Buffalo’s 11-yard line. Two plays later Succop put through a 28-yard FG, upping the Chiefs lead to 10-3.

QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and company then proceeded to construct a 15-play, 83-yard drive. Fitzpatrick hit WR Lee Evans for six yards. CB Brandon Flowers jarred the ball loose near the sideline and the fumble was recovered by LB Mike Vrabel. After a Buffalo challenge, the ruling on the field was overturned and Buffalo maintained possession with 4:08 left in the fourth quarter.

Faced with fourth and goal from the four-yard line, Fitzpatrick hit WR Steve Johnson on a quick slant for a game-tying TD with 2:18 remaining. The play was challenged by Head Coach Todd Haley, but the call on the field was upheld.

The Chiefs began at their own 20-yard line. In the two-minute offense, Kansas City was faced with a fourth and one from its own 29-yard line. The Chiefs appeared to get the first down on a QB sneak by Cassel, but the Chiefs called a timeout before the ball was snapped and eventually elected to punt.

WR Roscoe Parrish returned the punt 33 yards to Buffalo’s 48-yard line. Four plays into the drive Fitzpatrick’s pass sailed over the head of his intended receiver and was picked off by S Eric Berry with 0:32 to play in regulation. Cassel was sacked on the next play and the clock expired sending the game into overtime.

After winning the coin toss, Buffalo elected to receive. They Bills were forced to punt on their first possession, but following a Chiefs punt Buffalo had the first opportunity to win the game. Lindell came on to attempt a 53-yard FG and put the kick through the uprights, but Haley had called timeout prior to the snap, forcing Lindell to try again. This time Lindell’s line-drive kick hit the right upright, giving the Chiefs new life.

The Chiefs sent Succop out for the game winner from 39 yards out on the next possession. Succop’s kick into the wind sailed wide left giving Buffalo the ball back. The Chiefs defense again held firm forcing Buffalo to punt.

With only 1:20 to play in the overtime period Cassel moved the Chiefs into FG range with an 11-yard pass to TE Tony Moeaki, setting up Succop for a 35-yard field goal attempt with 0:05 remaining on the clock. This time Succop’s kick split the uprights as time expired giving the Chiefs a thrilling 13-10 OT victory.

GAME NOTES• RB Thomas Jones became the first player in NFL history to register a 500-yard rushing season with five different franchises.• The Chiefs have registered three straight games with 200 or more rushing yards for the first time since accomplishing the feat in the first three games of the ’78 season.

K Ryan Succop nails a 35-yard game-winning FG.
