It marks the team’s fiſth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, earning an automac berth by way of winning the Atlanc Sun Conference Tournament in 1994, 1996, 2004 and 2005. The Knights have enjoyed a historic season, seng a program Division I record with 23 regular season wins and picking up UCF’s first NCAA Tournament win on Friday over VCU. Now the Knights are set to take on the number one team in the naon in Duke. GO KNIGHTS MARCH ON Seeded ninth, this marks the highest seed for UCF in its history playing in the NCAA Tournament The first two mes the Knights reached the NCAA Tournament they were a 16 seed out of the A-Sun, earning a 14 seed in 2004 and a 15 seed in 2005. UCF is 1-4 all-me in the NCAA Tournament aſter defeang VCU on Friday and looks for win number two on Sunday. DAWKINS IN THE DANCE Johnny Dawkins is no stranger to the NCAA Tournament, although this is just his second appearance in the dance as a head coach. He took Stanford to the Sweet 16 in 2013-14, leading the 10th seeded Cardinal to wins over seventh seeded New Mexico and second seeded Kansas. As a player at Duke, Dawkins took the Blue Devils to three NCAA Tournaments, advancing all the way to the championship game in 1986. An assistant on Coach K’s staff at Duke from 1998-2008, Dawkins was on the bench for 10 tournament appearances, three Final Fours and a championship in 2001. DAWKINS’ DUKE CONNECTIONS Johnny Dawkins is a Duke legend as a player, having led the Blue Devils to a naonal final en route to earning Naismith Player of the Year honors in 1986. He also coached on Coach K’s staff from 1998-2008, winning the 2001 Naonal Championship. In fact, Dawkins was on the staff when all of Duke’s current assistant coaches were players for the Blue Devils. Sunday will mark Coach Dawkins’ second me ever facing Duke as a head coach, having done so once as head coach at Stanford, losing 70-59 back on Nov. 22, 2014. Johnny’s son Aubrey also grew up while his dad was an assistant on the Duke staff and was around pracce all the me. Sunday will mark his first me playing the Blue Devils. Johnny Dawkins was named UCF’s seventh head men’s basketball coach on Mar. 23, 2016 and has hadimmediatesuccessinhisfirsttwoseasonswiththe Knights.

Dawkinstookovera12-18squadthathadn’tfinishedabove.500since2012-13andledtheKnightstoa24-12recordinhisfirstseasonatthehelm,thesixthbestturnaroundinthenation.Withjust seven scholarship players due to transfers and injuries, the Knights earned the fourth seed – their highestever–intheAmericanAthleticConferenceTournament, eventually falling to league champion

SMUinthesemifinals.

Aseasonfulloffirsts,UCFhosteditsfirstNITgamein2016-17,defeatingColoradofortheprogram’sfirsteverwininanNITorNCAATournamentgame.The Knights went on to defeat top seeded Illinois State on the road, before cominghometothefirsteversell-outcrowdatCFEArenaandwinning68-58over Illinois to earn a spot in the NIT Final Four.

UnderDawkins’leadership,UCFledallofNCAADivisionIindefensivefieldgoalpercentagein2016-17,holdingopponentstojust36.5percentfromthefloor.TheKnightswerealsosixthinthenation,allowingonly61.2pointspergame,andgave up 45 or less points in four games over the course of the year.

DawkinswasnamedafinalistforboththeJimPhelanandBenJobeNationalCoachoftheYearawardshisfirstseasonatUCF,buthealsoguidedanumberofhis players to accomplishments along the way.

Inyeartwoatthehelm,Dawkinshadtodealwithsignificantinjuriestohisthreebestplayers.Hisson,AubreyDawkins,missedtheentireseasonwithashoulderinjury,B.J.Taylormissedthefirsthalfoftheseason,andTackoFallmissedthesecond half of the year. Taylor and Fall only played one game together.

Through the injuries, Dawkins led the Knights to a 19-13 record, second only to hisfirstseasonrecordinthelastfiveyearsofUCFBasketball.

In two years, Johnny Dawkins has led UCF to new heights on the basketball court,buthehasdoneanevenbetterjobwithhisplayersintheclassroom.WithDawkins at the helm, the Knights men’s basketball program recorded an average semesterteamGPAover3.0forthefirsttimeinrecordedhistory.Theythendiditagain,settinganewprogramrecordwithanaveragesemesterGPAof3.03thisspring. STANFORD STINTStanford put together four 20-win seasons in Dawkins’ tenure as head coach. He is only the second coach in Stanford history with at least four 20-win seasons. Stanford’s success on the court came against some of the toughest schedules in thenation.Duringthe2015-16season,theCardinalfacedthesixth-mostdifficultslateinthecountry.Anation-leading17ofStanford’s30gamescameagainstRPITop50squads.Stanford’sstrengthofschedulewasratedinthetop50eachofthe past four seasons, including two in the top 20, with an average rank of 27.75. The Cardinal basketball program also excelled in the classroom during Dawkins’ tenure,earningatleastthreePac-12All-Academicselectionsforfiveconsecutiveseasons and producing back-to-back Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipients (2014,2015).Stanfordalsoreceivedannualnationalacademicrecognition,withthreeplayersearningNationalAssociationofBasketballCoaches(NABC)HonorsCourt status in 2015. The Cardinal was one of 20 NCAA Division I teams to earn an NABC Team Academic Excellence Award last season. In 2012, Dawkins mentored Chasson Randle to become the consummate student-athlete.RandlefinishedthatseasonasStanford’sall-timeleadingscorerandearnedtheprogram’sfirstAcademicAll-AmericaFirstTeamselectionsince2006. Under Dawkins, Stanford recorded back-to-back perfect Academic Progress Rate scores of 1000 in both the 2012-13 and 2013-14 reports, the two most recent to be released by the NCAA. Player development was also markedly improved at Stanford under Dawkins’ tutelage.FourCardinalplayerswereselectedintheNBADraftfollowingtheircollegiate careers. DECORATED DUKIEFollowingaprolifichighschoolcareeratMackinCatholicinWashington,D.C.,Dawkins made his way to Duke, where he would become one of the most decorated players to step foot in Durham, North Carolina.

He played for the Blue Devils from 1983-86, earning Consensus All-America honors twice (1985, 1986). Dawkins was also voted as the 1986 Naismith NationalPlayeroftheYearandnamedaFreshmanAll-Americanin1983.Duringhis collegiate career, he helped lead Duke to three NCAA Tournament berths, includinganNCAANationalChampionshipGameappearancein1986.Hewaslisted as an All-ACC honoree in all four seasons as a Blue Devil. Dawkinsfinishedhiscareerastheschool’sall-timeleadingscorerandheldthathonoruntil2006whenJ.J.Redicksurpassedhismarkof2,556points.Herecordeddouble-figurepointtotalsin129-of-133collegiategames.Dawkinsled the Blue Devils in scoring all four years, recording the fourth-highest season point total in school history with 809 in 1986. Dawkins remains Duke’s career record-holderinfieldgoals(1,026)andfieldgoalsattempted(2,019)whilealsoowningtheschool’sbestsingle-seasonmarkforfieldgoals(331)duringthe1986campaign.

Dawkins was inducted into the Duke Sports Hall of Fame in September 1996. His jerseynumber24wasretiredbytheschool. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCEA1986first-rounddraftpick(10thoverall)bySanAntonio,Dawkinssawactionin nine NBA seasons with the Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons. He averaged 11.1 points and 5.5 assists over 541 career NBA games. GIVING BACK TO THE GAMEDawkinshasservedasamemberoftheNationalAssociationofBasketballCoaches Board of Directors since 2012.
