TheonlyothertimeISUstartedtheseasonagainstaTop-25team,theRedbirdsnarrowlylosttoNo.2Purdue('87). ISUhasknockedoffaTop-25teamineachofthelasttwoseasons(WichitaStatein2012andCreightonlastyear). ThelasttimetheRedbirdsfacedVCU,headcoachDan Muller was a sophomore on the court. He led all scorers
with19pointstohelpISUina,74-72,lossatVCUin1995.HealsohelpedISUbeatVCUasafreshmanin1994. In the 116-year history of the program, Illinois State has compiled a 77-38 all-time record in season-opening games.
