Aims of Health and Safety:

• Getting hurt at work happens all the time, and could happen to you even though we work in a low risk environment.

• 300 people every year are killed at work in Britain.

• In excess of 150,000 non fatal injuries

are reported.

• Over 2,000,000 suffer from work related ill health.

• Thought and care could prevent them.

Aims of Health and Safety:

Everyone has a responsibility for Health & Safety under the Health and Safety at Work(ect.) act of 1974 and they are:

• To take reasonable care of the Health & Safety of themselves & others affected by their acts or omissions

• To co-operate with the requirements and duties imposed on the employer to enable those requirements and duties to be complied with

• Duty not to interfere with or misuse.

in connection with the company’s work

Management of Health and Safety at

Work Regulations 1999

• The aims of our Health and Safety policy are to

ensure that the company will conduct its

business in such a way as to ensure, so far as is

reasonably practicable, that employees,

contractors, clients, customers, visitors and

persons not in its employment, including the

public, who may be affected by it’s activities are

not exposed to risks to their health and safety.

Personal Appearance

and Conduct

Personal Appearance.

• As an SIA trained Gallowglass Security Limited

operative your appearance will reflect your

ability to carry out your task whilst on duty. Only

the highest standard of personal appearance will

be acceptable. You must take care in your

appearance as you will present a professional

image to the clients and their guests. A smart

appearance and positive attitude combined with

ability and effort are the main reasons for

achieving a successful task.

• No visible piercings or excessive jewellery.

General behaviour.• At all times maintain agreed standards of personal

appearance and deportment appropriate to the licensed

premises or event and never act in a manner likely to

bring discredit on the service provider/employer;

• Greet visitors to the licensed premises or event in a

friendly and courteous manner;

• Use moderated language at all times when dealing with

members of the public and other members of staff;

• Act fairly and not unlawfully discriminate against any

person, e.g. on the grounds of colour, race, religion, sex,

or disability, and should always be prepared to justify

their actions;

• Never solicit or accept any bribe or other

consideration from any person, nor fail to

account for any money or property received

during the course of duty;

• Do not socialize with customers, friends or

relations while on duty;

• Not report for duty under the influence of alcohol

or restricted drugs, or use these whilst on duty;

• Never abuse their position of authority and

immediately report any incident or involvement

with the police that could affect their continued

employment as a door supervisor;

• Wear their SIA licence prominently on the

outside of their clothing.

General Duties: Licensed

Premises

• To report to and take directions from the

designated premises supervisor.

• To keep confidential all security arrangements

and keep informed of any changes to those

arrangements;

• To refuse access to anyone whose presence at

the event might render the designated premises

supervisor subject to prosecution for any

offence;

General Duties: Licensed

Premises .• To ensure that consent is obtained from each

customer in front of witnesses prior to any

search taking place, if personal searches are

required as a condition of entry;

• Not to search individuals of the opposite sex and

to ensure that any items seized are dealt with

strictly in accordance with the licensed premises

or events policy;

General Duties: Licensed

Premises.• To maintain good order on the licensed

premises or event and to ensure the safety of

the public by awareness of fire and emergency

equipment and evacuation procedures;

• To use tact and diplomacy as the first tool to

control any conflict;

• Then, if tact and diplomacy do not work, to use

only the minimum amount of force required for

the intended purpose

Please Note!!!!

• The law allows any person to use

reasonable force to defend themselves,

their property or the property of another

person. In addition, a person may use

“such force as is necessary in the

circumstances in the prevention of crime.

The use of force, however slight, always

requires justification that it was reasonable

in all the circumstances”.

• Check your tasks with the client or the Gallowglass security

guard finishing his duty.

• Ask any questions you may have which relate to your task e.g.

– Key areas of interest

– Routes for patrolling

– Unusual activity in the area

– Alarm systems

– Special equipment

– Methods of contacting clients in an emergency

– Any report forms incident logs that need to be maintained

General Duties: Site Security.

General Duties: Site Security

• Make sure your position is clear of all rubbish before

you assume responsibility for the task.

• You are not to smoke, eat or drink soft drinks in

public view.

• You will only sit in designated areas if a chair is

provided for your task.

• You are not to sleep during your duty!!!!!!!!!

• You must respond immediately to any threat to your

task, assess what is happening and inform the Duty

Manager what you are doing or what support you

need.

General Duties: Site Security

• Do not leave your post until you are replaced by the oncoming

Gallowglass Security guard unless your duty is the last of the

tasking period stated. If you are not replaced as you expect call

the duty manager immediately to find a replacement.

• Prior to completing your task clean up the area and take your

rubbish away with you.

• You will not bring your laptop on site, or use any computer

equipment on site unless it forms part of your duties.

• REMEMBER YOU REPRESENT THE COMPANY WHILST ON

DUTY - BE SMART - BE ALERT AND BE EFFECTIVE.

Incident Procedure.

• Definition:

• Accident – an unplanned and unwanted

event that results in injury or financial loss

• Incident / near miss – and an unplanned

and unwanted event which could have

resulted in injury or financial loss

Incident Procedure.

• When an accident or incident occurs it

needs to be recorded and reported as

soon as possible.

• All Team Leaders have accident and

incident report forms in their team leader

packs.

• All the documents must be returned to the

Operations Manager as soon as possible.

How to deal with an Incident:

• Assess the situation

• Establish communications with your team leader

• Brief your superior on the situation, where you

are and what assistance you need

• Decide what you must do to ensure peoples and

your own safety

• Can you deal with the incident yourself or will

you need support

How to deal with an Incident:

• If it is a safety emergency that threatens

life or limb, evacuate the area in

accordance with your initial briefing and

procedures, ensure the nominated team

leader calls the emergency services

immediately with the following information:

How to deal with an Incident:

• Where you are e.g. the address or location.

• What is happening e.g. fire or break in.

• What you are doing e.g. observing or evacuating

the area.

• What do you need to assist you e.g. Fire

Service, Police or Gallowglass personnel.

• Record the time of arrival of all emergency

services should they be needed.

• Complete the relevant paperwork as soon as

possible.

Risk Assessments.

• All risk assessment will be carried out

by the Operations Manager.

• Risk assessments are required for all

significant generic and site (or event)

specific hazards. The principal areas

requiring risk assessment in

connection with GSL’s day-to-day

operations are:

• Display screen equipment.

• The control of substances hazardous to health .

Risk Assessments.

• The Operations Manager will review all company risk

assessments:

• At regular intervals.

• When circumstances or work methods change.

• When existing risk assessments prove inadequate.

• When new premises are taken on either as clients

premises.

• When new processes, equipment or methods are

introduced.

• When new legislation is introduced which requires it?

Work Equipment.

• All work equipment will be issued by the

Operations Manager.

• When you are collecting work equipment you will

have to sign a Kit Indent form which will confirm:

1.Quantity, date and time of equipment collected.

2.All the equipment is in working order before

leaving the stock room.

3.That you take responsibility for all equipment.

Work Equipment.

• The person that signed the Kit Indent form will be held

responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged kit and may

be charged for replacing equipment.

• All company work equipment will be maintained, in good

working order or with drawn from service for repair or

replacement.

• All employees will be trained in the use of any work

equipment which is identified by the Operations Manager

as requiring training.

• Work equipment identified as requiring regular

maintenance and/or training is listed in the Work

Equipment Register

Company Vehicles.

• This section covers anyone driving any vehicle while

working for Gallowglass Security Limited including

driving off public roads (e.g. into a public park or other

place of work). Generally it will not include the use of

your own vehicle to get to work.

• GSL will have in place fully comprehensive insurance for

all company and rental vehicles.

• The Operation Manager is responsible for maintenance

of all company vehicles and ensuring that they are

maintained in a safe condition and regularly serviced and

tested.

Company Vehicles.

• Anyone driving a company vehicle will have

presented their licence to the Operations

Manager who will make a copy for the company

records.

• Employees MUST inform the Operations

Manager if they are convicted of any motoring

offence which results in penalty points on their

driving licence. Failure to do so may result in the

driver being uninsured and dismissal from the

company.
