Three Million Hits! On October 8th, the
Cork GAA website broke
its own record for hits,
passing the three
million mark for the
first time ever in a
single year. This
represents a substantial
increase in usage from
last year, when the site
had 2.29 million hits for
the year, and reinforces
the website's position
as the primary source
of information on all
aspects of Cork GAA.
Our thanks to all our
users!!
Gaelic Writers’ Award for Gerard Lane Congratulations to County Vice-Chairman, Gerard Lane (Bride Rovers),
who was recently honoured by the Gaelic Writers'
Association as 2011 PRO of the Year, in recognition of his excellent work
during his three-year term as County PRO.
The award, sponsored by Cadbury's, was presented at a star-studded
function at the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel, Dublin, and particularly recognised
Gerard's accessibility to the media, organisation of press evenings and
regular media updates. It is an appropriate reflection of the quality of his
work as County PRO, and a well-deserved honour. Other winners on the
night included Jimmy Magee, Seán Boylan and Conor Hayes.

Cork GAA Clubs’ Draw The Cork GAA Clubs' Draw is now entering its 21st year. Over the past
20 years it has been a major fundraiser for both our Clubs and County
Board.
The Draw offers clubs a risk-free fundraising opportunity, and for just
€100 (or €10 a month by direct debit for ten months), offers supporters
the chance to win some very generous prizes, including cars, cash and
holidays. The first two draws will be made at the end of October, so get
in early! See www.gaacork.ie to download the Draw brochure, and for
more information contact your club. To join online, see www.corkgaadraw.ie.
County Champions!! Our County Championship Finals are now in full swing, and four of the
major titles have been decided over the past two weekends.
Congratulations to Sarsfields (Senior Hurling), Ballinhassig (Premier
Intermediate Hurling), Kilworth (Intermediate Hurling) and Castletownbere
(Intermediate Football), all of whom have collected silverware recently.

Football, and Senior and Premier Intermediate Football. Blackrock play
Duhallow in the U21 A Hurling Final on Saturday evening at 5.45pm at
Páirc Uí Rinn, while the same venue hosts the Junior A Hurling (Brian
Dillons v Kildorrery) and Football (Kilmurry v Rockchapel) Finals on
Sunday.

Finals have been played to date, with Bantry Blues emerging victorious
over Aghada in Division 2 Football by the narrowest of margins; 0-10 to

Rebels Abroad: From Éire Óg to Essex! Yvonne Corkery (former Camogie player with Eire Og club, Cork) Head of
Languages department at Passmores Academy, Harlow, Essex recently
organised a hurling and football training session in her school for the year
9 pupils, age 13-14. Shane MacAuley (Donegal and London), along with
Larry O'Leary (formerly of Clonakilty) of Cuchulainn's Club duly arrived at
the school with bags of helmets, hurleys, footballs and sliotars. Shane
delivered three one hour football sessions to the mixed groups of 20 to 30
pupils. Yvonne's dad, Paddy Corkery, travelled from Cork to deliver the
similar hurling sessions with Larry. The feedback from the year 9 class has
been very positive and further similar sessions are planned with a view to
hurling and football teams being formed in the school in 2013. We'd be
delighted to hear similar stories from Cork GAA people based abroad and
working hard to promote Gaelic games - such material can be emailed
