Ahoy me fellow GACRAOans!!!
Welcome to Savannah! The theme for this year's conference is "Working
Like a Pirate -Providing Inspiring Resources Actively Through Education".
During your time in Savannah you may hear your colleagues using such
phrases as Blimey!! or "Shiver me Timbers!!" Both are exclamations of
surprise or strong emotion and believe me we hope there will be a lot of
that.
Your President-Elect, Donna Webb, and her crew of Program
coordinators, have been busy putting together a motherload of sessions
that are sure to provide the insights and inspiration we have anticipated
throughout the year. Amy Clines, your Local Arrangements Committee
chair, and Megan Taylor, Chair of Hospitality and Entertainment, have
been scouting the historic district, gathering a host of local resources,
destinations and entertainment we know you will enjoy. They have
discovered the largest amount of booty and promise to share the loot.
Arr! You will not want to miss the big event at Savannah Smiles. There'll be no 'walking the plank' at this
conference, though I am sure many of us know someone who might just deserve such a fate. Instead, there
will be laughter, learning and leading. From the veterans who have been in strategic enrollment
management careers for years to those new professionals just stepping their toes in the water, we all have
experiences to share and insights to help inspire.
I want to remind you to support our partners by visiting their booths often throughout the conference.
Without their support we all would be "hanging the jib".
A special thanks to your Executive Committee members who have been hard at work making this ship ready
to set sail for Savannah. Along with those mentioned above, they include: Immediate Past-President, Scott
Argo, Treasurer, Selena Magnusson, Secretary and Newsletter Editor, David Jenkins, Vendor Coordinator,
Erika Underwood, Professional Access and Equity Chair, Kathlyn Burden, and Professional Development and
Midyear Workshop Chair, Natalie Knox. A special thanks to Dr. Nichole Kennedy for taking the helm of
GISEM.
Aye mateys, make this your best year ever by working like a PIRATE!!
Sincerely
Cindy Peterson, President
GACRAO President 2013-14

What are the most important professional aspects and personal characteristics which make for a successful career by creating opportunities? Presented by a highly experienced enrollment manager and a senior director of student affairs with a background in corporate human resource management, this session is designed to provide a framework for self-analysis and planning for sustainable career advancement and satisfaction.

A hallmark of Elon University is the effort to involve students in five program areas including: Leadership, Service Learning, Internships/Co-ops, Study Abroad, and Undergraduate Research. This innovative program puts Elon graduates ahead of the pack when applying for employment, graduate programs and other post-graduate opportunities. The Elon Experiences Transcript shows employers that the student possesses skills and experiences that set them apart. Elon University’s Registrar’s Office has worked across departmental lines to provide students with a way to request and receive their academic transcript and their Elon Experiences transcript. Challenges such as concatenating the two transcripts into one PDF document, aligning unique artwork for each document, customizing the look and feel of each transcript, and challenges to launching this new technology will be discussed.

GET YER SEA LEGS READY….
Monday, October 27, 2014 6:30 PM – 10:30 PM
Savannah Smiles Dueling Pianos We invite you to join us for an evening of dining and entertainment with your favorite
GACRAO colleagues. Monday evening will begin with dinner provided at the Historic
DeSoto Hilton. After dinner, we invite you to hop on the GACRAO trolley and join us
for an evening of interactive sing-a-long and entertainment at Savannah Smiles-
Dueling Pianos Saloon!
Savannah Smiles Dueling Pianos Saloon was opened in December 2000 and is located in the Historic District of
Downtown Savannah. At Savannah Smiles, you are sure to have a great time as you celebrate with other fun and
exciting Gacraoians.
What are dueling pianos? There are several different varieties. Typically, the dueling piano audience is used for the
dueling aspect of the show. Audience members are pitted one-side-against-the-other. Examples of rivalries include
country vs. rock, men against women, etc. This dueling piano interactive concept has grown rapidly the past few years
and shows no sign of letting-up. Why? One very simple reason: people love to interact and have fun. The show's focal
point is a pair of pianos on stage. The piano players act as "ring masters". Hand-picked from only the finest regional
talent, they're experts at keeping audience members involved, happy and content. Dueling piano shows often take
unexpected turns. Tangents may include involving wait staff members, changing song lyrics or roasting popular
audience members.
And who typically enjoys dueling pianos? There are no boundaries. Dueling pianos appeal to all ages, creeds and colors.
Dueling piano shows are the perfect entertainment for events as everyone is drawn together by the camaraderie &
nostalgia to form one large, synergistic party -swaying to the music and bellowing-out familiar lyrics. This concept
bases itself on the simple fact that everyone wants to have a good time. The Dueling Piano "experience" is not only
incredible fun, but also very unique. Guests aren't just entertained by the piano players - they become part of the
show!
COMPLIMENTARY TROLLEY SERVICE WILL BE OFFERED FROM 7:15 PM - 11:00 PM.

Alumni can also help an institution gain name recognition in areas that have untapped potential for growth.
