TM 226 Cable and Belt Friction

* Fundamentals of cable and pulley friction

Technical DescriptionThe model allows the friction coefficients of different friction belts to be determined. The influence of the angle of contact on the necessary driving force can also be investigated. A ball bearing-mounted cable pulley is slotted to allow for the fitting of round, flat and V-belts. Different friction belts are placed around the pulley at angles of contact from 0° to 180° and a defined load applied to them using weights. The relative motion of the pulley is generated by another set of weights. The model is intended for wall mounting. Alternatively, it can be attached to the TM 090 mounting frame. The well-structured instructional material outlines the technological fundamentals and provides a step-by-step guide through the experiments.

• Comprehensive experiment on surface friction and on thefunction of plate clutches

Using this unit, the term surface friction and the function of a plate clutch canbe studied in experiments. Various metal discs are attached to the support forthe experiments; these form the mating face. The upper loose friction disc madeof steel is placed against these discs. The loose friction disc can be rotated andis fitted to a bearing stud. The disc is driven by attaching weights to a belt thatpasses around the circumference of the disc; the rope is guided using low fric-tion ball bearing mounted pulleys. [1]Student experiment on the dynamics of rota-tion with changing mass moment of inertia[2]Steel flywheel Ø300mm, 14kg[3] Additional disc Ø178mm, 3.5kg[4]Additional ring Ø178/250mm, 3.5kg[5]Plotter, oscillating pen, 10Hz[6]Weight set up to 20N[7]Wall mounting or TM 090 stands[8] lxwxh 350x250x330mm

• Accelerated angular motion with variable masses• Graphic recording of the angular motion over time

Using the TM 613 Comprehensive Flywheel Apparatus, basic experiments onuniformly accelerated angular motion can be performed. A ball bearing mountedflywheel can be placed in motion using weights attached to a cord. Additionalmasses enable the moment of inertia of the flywheel to be varied. An oscillatingpen records the accelerated angular motion of the wheel. The unit is excellentlysuited to student experiments. The unit is intended for wall mounting, howeveras an alternative it can be also be used with the TM 090 stand manufactured byG.U.N.T.

• Experimental determination of the mass moment of inertia• Influence of varying angular accelerations on the angular motion• Influence of varying mass moments of inertia on the angular motion
