Bronze Age

• Lasted from 3,000 B.C. to 1100 B.C..• 1200 B.C.- The Trojan War and the fall of the

Mycenae.

The Dark Age

• Lasted from 1100 B.C. to 800 B.C..• 1100 B.C.- End of Mycenaean age and

civilization. Early city-states are ruled by monarchy.

Archaic Period

• Lasted from 800 B.C. to 500 B.C..• 800 B.C. - 700 B.C.- Monarchies begin to be

replaced by aristocratic government.• 776 B.C.- First Olympic games • 546 B.C.- Persian invasion and conquest of

Greek territories through out Asia Minor.

Classical Period

• Lasted from 500 B.C. to 400 B.C.• 490 B.C.- 1st Persian invasion of Greece.• 480 B.C.- 2nd Persian invasion of Greece,

Spartans are defeated.• 431 B.C.- 404 B.C.- The Peloponnesian War.• 404 B.C.- Athens surrenders to Sparta.

Late Classical Period

• Lasted from 400 B.C. to 330 B.C.• 336 B.C. – 323 B.C.- Alexander the Great’s

reign begins.

Hellenistic Age

• Lasted from 330 B.C. to 30 B.C.• 200 B.C. – 196 B.C.- First Roman victory over

Greece.• 86 B.C.- Athens is sacked by Sulla.

• Notice that there are not as many cities and more countries spread out. Notice the names of the countries.

• Now, there are many more small cities than ancient times. There are also many new countries.

Alexander the Great

• Spread Greek culture to Egypt, Asia Minor, Asia, and smaller cities in Syria, Iran, and Bactria.

• Without him, Greek culture would not be as widely known as it is today.

Alexander the Great

• His goal was to conquer the world, and he did as far as he knew. When his troops reached the Indus River Valley, they told him that this was the end of the world, so he turned back satisfied.

• His death is one of history’s great mysteries. He died 10 days after he was at a feast and suddenly felt sharp pains and collapsed.

Short Term Impacts

• Cities in Syria, Iran, Bactria, and Egypt. (Many don’t exist any more.)

• Ancient Greek culture all over the world.• Greece TONS of land in ancient times, but not

so much today.

Long Term Impacts

• There are Greeks all of the world today.• Alexander The Great is still known as one of

the greatest leaders and conquerors of all time.

• Greece is still a great country and world known today.
