After 36 years of service, our head teacher Gill Lloyd, will be
retiring at the end of the summer term. To celebrate and show
thanks for her dedication to the school, we are holding a ‘Party
in the Park’ on Saturday 20th July 2019 15:00-18:00 in the school
grounds. Weather permitting we are inviting you all to bring
along a picnic and mingle in the school grounds whilst listening to
some live entertainment (if it’s raining we’ll be in the
Bromsgrove). There will be tea, coffee, cake and a glass of
something special to show our appreciation.
We will be buying Gill a leaving gift. If you would like to
contribute, please send donations into the school office.
Thank you.

Man v Horse, Saturday June 8th 2019 The recent Man v Horse event welcomed a relay team from our twin town of Meriel in France.
The Man v Horse Committee thought that as it was the 40th Anniversary of the race that they would invite a team from Meriel to take part. They contacted the Llanwrtyd Wells Twinning Association and asked if they would co-ordinate with Meriel and arrange for a team to participate.
Co-operation between Meriel Town Mayor, Jean Louis Delanoy, his personal assistant Dominique, Twinning Secretary Liz, as well as Jerome Francois and the OSML made the visit possible.
The party from Meriel was met at the Neuadd Arms by several members of the Twinning Association, to begin what was to be a very enjoyable weekend.
It was particularly pleasing to receive praise from our friends from Meriel regarding the quality of the event’s organisation.
The party left for home on the Sunday morning with the assurance that they would be back for next year’s event with a greater number of runners.

Man versus Horse Race 2019 An iconic event across the world, hosted by Britain’s smallest town.
This event simply couldn’t happen each year without all the help, support and goodwill of the Llanwrtyd residents.
The Green Events committee would like to thank everyone who gave their time and contributed to this year’s efforts – from the Merched y Bont ladies who made their famous sandwiches for nearly 1200 people, to the marshals who stood out for hours and never ran out of encouraging words for the tiring competitors, to every friendly face in town that gives this event its unique appeal.

Rob Loveridge -Stem Ambassador led workshops on Dinosaurs in FP and on Meteorites in KS2. Thank you.
Red Nose Day – We sold red noses and raised £50 for the Comic Relief appeal. All pupils in Mrs Lloyd’s class went to Theatr Brycheiniog to see the production “One Small Step”. Arts Council Wales largely funded this.
Trees from the Woodland Trust have been planted around the school grounds and in the car park. We are taking part in the ‘Grow Your Own Potato Project’.
Pupils produced artwork for a display at the opening of the Community Transport Drop in Centre. Thank you for the donation to school funds.
Following a Powys County Council decision our 3+ Setting (Dôlafon Ducklings) now only operates from Monday –Wednesday from 9am-11:30am. Lorraine Voss (Setting Leader) and Julia Curtis (Assistant) resigned from their positions at the end of April. We wish them both well in their lives after Dôlafon Ducklings. Thank you. Gemma Powell (Setting Leader) and Jane Webb (Assistant) have replaced them. The Setting was inspected by CIW in March 2019 and received a glowing report. https://gweddill.gov.wales/docs/cssiw/report/inspection_reports/16622_c_190515_e.pdf
The Food Standards Agency awarded our school canteen a Food Hygiene Rating of 5 in a recent inspection. The school and hall had a cleaning audit carried out by Powys CC, standards were judged to be ‘good’. The School was awarded Healthy School Phase 5. The assessor saw plenty of evidence that the healthy school ethos is ongoing and embedded through class work and displays. Pupils in Key Stage 2 had an enjoyable day at the Hay Festival, thank you to Friends of School who paid for the transport.
On behalf of Friends of School we would like to thank you all for helping us raise £263.20 (525 kilos) with our recent Rags to Riches collection.
As many of you may have heard, Gill has decided to retire as Head teacher at Ysgol Dôlafon at the end of this school year. Gill will have been at the school for 36 years and has played a major role in so many children’s lives in Llanwrtyd and the surrounding area. If you would like to make a donation to her leaving gift please drop it in to the school office.
CCTV
The Town Council have been unsuccessful with our bid to the Police & Crime Commissioners Community Fund for money for CCTV for the Town Square and Green.
Unfortunately it is felt that CCTV is something the town needs to ensure the safety of the town and tourists, and support business. As a result we are calling on the community to support us in our endeavours to raise the monies required.
At the moment the fund stands at just over £300 raised by a councillor and a small group from a sponsored carol singing around the vandalised Christmas tree in December 2018.
Be proud of our town invest in its future Please sponsor or donate to CCTV for a Safer Llanwrtyd.

Anyone who enjoys singing is invited to come along and join this
relaxed and friendly group! There's a wide range of music to suit
all tastes including classical, world folk, pop, gospel, sea-shanties
and old-fashioned camp-fire songs.

Wales in Bloom – Friday 5th
July
As mentioned previously the Town Council is supporting an entry
this year in the Wales in Bloom Large Village Category (less than
1,000 inhabitants). Participating in Wales in Bloom encourages us
to improve the appearance of our town not only for the benefit of
visitors but also to help the well-being of the community. You will
have noticed the work that has been done over the last two months
to improve the beds in the Town Centre. But Wales in Bloom is
not just about flowers. The judge, who will be visiting Llanwrtyd
on Friday 5th
July, will also be looking for cleanliness and tidiness
around the town and its environment, well-kept residential front
gardens, good support from businesses and a collaborative
community spirit.
The Town Council hopes that residents will support them in this
initiative.
