What is STEM? STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

STEM Education— is the interdisciplinary process of teaching that integrates these four disciplines to promote real-world experience, teamwork, and the authentic application of technology which are essential for success. STEM education integrates concepts that are usually taught as separate subjects in different classes and emphasizes the application of knowledge to real-life situations. A lesson or unit in a STEM class is typically based around finding a solution to a real-world problem and tends to emphasize project-based experiencing learning. Many STEM lessons involve building models in simulating situations. According to the United States National Research Council and the National Science Foundation, STEM fields are collectively considered core technological underpinnings of an advanced society. Thus STEM education, entwines the study of Math and Science in an inter-disciplinary fashion with the demands of engineering and technology and is a key component of responsible, global citizenship. STEM education could take place in a separate STEM class or be incorporated into practically any subject and grade level. Careers in STEM-related fields are vast and diverse. They obviously include careers in Science and Engineering fields, Energy, Programming, Pharmacy. However, STEM careers may also take the form of a Physicians’ assistant, Network Communications Expert, or Agricultural, Professional, Financial, Risk Analysis etc. Even Athletic Training has elements of STEM.

Why STEM? In the 21st century, scientific and technological innovations have become increasingly significant as we face the benefits and challenges of both globalisation and a knowledge-based economy. To succeed in this new information-based and highly technological society, students need to develop their capabilities in STEM to levels much beyond what was considered acceptable in the past. Additionally, STEM also promotes discovery and project-based learning. It fosters a lifelong love for learning helping students augment curiosity and make connections as to why the world exists as it does. Students can forget just bookish knowledge but hardly forget practical learning in life. By experiential learning through making various STEM models, students create more interests in study books too and they perform better in their regular school examinations. Teachers find it easier to teach MATH, Science typical concepts to students who are making practical STEM models. STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators. Innovation leads to new products and processes that sustain our economy. This innovation and scientific and mathematical literacy depends on a solid knowledge base in the STEM areas.By reaching outside there a classroom, teachers and lecturers collaborate across subjects, enhance and enrich the school curriculum, make links with the world of work, and use varied contexts to help future generation to relate school STEM subjects with their real-life experiences. Thus, STEM learning is vital to our future—the future of our country, region, the world and propels children to become global leaders.

Even though the realization that STEM is important is closer than ever, the implementation of STEM, however is far from satisfactory. This is primarily ingrained in our reluctance to substitute convention ridden education, where rote learning ironically is the standard, by practical hands-on creative pursuit. Hence this is the industry ripe for disruption, a positive one. But it needs indoctrination right from Administrators, owners, Principals, Directors, teachers, through to students across the board that a structured modular STEM implementation is essential. It is a tough challenge but one that needs to be undertaken and done right now. MPower Global STEM Education (MGSE) in association with STEM Academy of USA, Inc. (SAUS ) and in partnership with SMEs, pioneers and reputed STEM stalwarts aside from renowned institutions, is dedicated to developing and implementing easily adaptable curriculum modules customised for syllabus in the US and India geared towards Elementary, Middle, High-School levels and beyond. Developed in collaboration with leading U.S. STEM Organisations, such as the New York Hall of Science, MIT, the Boston Museum of Science, and many others, SAUS STEM courses encourage students to invent and be inspired. STEM courses are designed to have students solve real-world problems while being aligned to CBSE/ICSE/SSB/IB syllabus. The company promotes a structured framework wherein STEM is integrally knit into daily class-work to facilitate teachers and students endear it towards academic excellence, while Centers of Excellence instituted for training teachers on STEM pedagogy prepares trainers to deliver the quality that the exponentially exploding entrepreneurial world so desperately needs. Why STEM in India? Education in India is known worldwide for its ancient history in the field of science and mathematics. From the invention of zero to some striking findings in the early Vedic periods to creating a space for them in the world of Silicon Valley, Indians have always managed to do the rounds in the conventions of geniuses and academic leaders. But sadly, this leadership failed to transcend the annals of industry, manufacturing and international trade because the trend declined over the past few decades. India needs more emphasis on STEM literacy. The best possible starting point is to get to the root of the problem. Experiential learning can get the best of talents in students with hands-on learning equipment at the school level itself. Schools across the country should equip themselves well to inculcate the interest to acquire STEM education in students and get them started early. In a globally competitive economy, employers of all shapes and sizes are increasingly seeking workers skilled in science, technology, engineering, and math. Investing to ensure a pipeline of workers skilled in STEM competencies is a workforce issue, an economic-development issue, and a business imperative. And the best way to ensure return on these investments is to start fostering these skills in young children. New India needs such revolutionary disruptive approach to education which prepares children to innovate at their employment or better yet their own entrepreneurial ventures. It is in tandem with Skilled India, Start-up India, Make in India. Our Implementation of STEM Education - 1 STEM Academy of USA (SAUS) introduces middle and secondary school students (grades 4-10) to science, technolo-gy, engineering, and math (STEM) by immersing them in integrated, inter-disciplinary, hands-on projects that are based on problems of our present and future world.

STEM courses encourage students to invent and be inspired. STEM courses are designed to have students solve real-world problems while being aligned to CBSE/ICSE/IB syllabus. The USP (unique selling proposition) is the struc-tured manner in which STEM courses are knit as part of year long school curriculum so as not to put extra burden on teachers vested with completing prescribed syllabus. They, in fact, help students to way better understand the concepts of Math and Science thus assisting teachers to reach their goals and preparing students to become problem solvers and creative out-of-the-box thinkers to boldly and successfully face and resolve constantly emerging global challenges. The course tends to break down the barriers between subject areas that are often present in a traditional school schedule.

Having mapped the 4 major syllabi in India- CBSE/ICSE/SSB/IB - for Grades 4 thru 10 into Math and Science modules, we have embarked upon a structured implementation of STEM as part of school curriculum. Each module dwells on an overarching Science and/or, Math concept and embodies several practical hands-on toolkits which help students to engage in project based interdisciplinary learning of Science and Math related with Engineering and technology princi-ples. The class size is split into comfortable group sizes and adequate number of modules are pre-loaded onto carts for each Class to come to STEM lab and do the learning. The content is constantly updated and maintenance rendered. STEM training and certification is provided to Teachers through comprehensive workshops and constant orientation on pedagogy and delivery. Teacher training and certification in STEM is provided in Centers of Excellence operated by SAUS at various locations countrywide or at schools desirous of conducting such training.

Nathan Williams is a current STEM Project Leader and Technology Educator. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health at the University of Georgia (2002) and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in the fields of Finance and Economics at Georgia State University (2008),USA. His areas of expertise include STEM, Project-Based Learning, Biology, Ecology, Statistics, Analytics, and Best Practices in Education.

Mr. Williams helped design and build a multi-grade-level STEM program at Tucker Middle School—the first certified middle school program in the State of Georgia. He also created a school-wide STEM competition, now in its 7th year, with over one thousand participants annually. self-described “tech geek,” Mr. Williams coaches multiple competitive technology and science teams, including an

award-winning robotics team, and a Technology Student Association team that wins multiple commpetitive events annually.

Cynthia B is an Apple Innovative Educator, serves on the board of advisers for the STEM World School in India and is a member of the Chief Academic Advisory Council for the Center for Digital Education. She served as assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction in Georgia, as director of teaching and learning for West Metro Education School District in Minnesota, as coordinator of curriculum and instruction and graduation standards staff development for K-12 in the St. Louis Park School District in Minnesota and as principal at Smith Elementary School, recognized as a Title I Distinguished School three years in a row.

She is deeply passionate about project-based learning and excited to work alongside students as they solve real-world problems and gain the tools they need to be successful in this ever-changing world..

Dr. Lisa Stueve, STEM Outreach Specialist with Georgia Southern University’s Institute for Interdisciplinary STEM Education, Statesboro, GA, USA has her Ed.D in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia and a Masters and Ed.S. in math education. Lisa has taught math for 20+ years with 16 years teaching online. She promotes STEM education by maintaining high quality professional development that equips teachers to shift their craft to authentic and student centered interdisciplinary instruction. These practices ensure that students thrive in the complex life and work environment of new age education.

She is a trained School Reform Initiative (SRI) facilitator. She has created and delivered transformational teaching strategies to incorporate the 21st century skills in classrooms K thru 12. Additionally, Dr. Stueve is a member of ASCD, ISTE, iNACOL, NASSP and active board member of the

Rotary Club.

Dr. Sharma has Bachelors of Science, Masters in Business Administration, Bachelors of Law and Doctorate in Marketing. Versatile with worldwide business strategy and operations, he is widely traveled in United States, Europe, Latin America, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, China, South Africa, Mexico, India and other countries.
