The Foremost
The foremost meaning first in the
series. In this blog I listed some foremost
events in Automotive industry. Like First
Car built, first Motor race! Everything
that happened in history for first time.
Although I cannot list all events, So I
plotted few big or historic events in this
blog. You might be aware of few events
like who built first practical car!
Everybody knows that! Maybe not. So
lets take glance at on it.
First Self Propelled Vehicle
Nicholas Joseph Cugnot from
France. Not everyone knows about this
man. Can you guess in which era or year
he designed the first self
propelled vehicle? He was the first man
who used a device to successfully convert
reciprocating motion of pistons of steam
into rotary motion by ratchet arrangement
and it was made in year 1769. Is it world
first Automobile? Can't say It is just the
matter of opinion. It's a topic at which we
can Debate all day. But In history it is not
mentioned that it is first Automobile.
Maybe it was not that practical. It was so
heavy and top speed was only 4km/hr and
had range of only 15 minutes! It must be
very difficult to steer it.
The First true Automobile
In 29 January 1885, Karl Benz patent
the first practical Car. This was the most
revolutionary moment in history.
Although you cannot say that Benz
invented first car. Its matter of opinion
that who invented it first, because there
are different types of automobiles like
Steam, electric and gasoline. But in
history most of credits was in favour of
benz as his patent vehicle was Practical
and also he used the IC engine making it
First Internal Combustion Engine Car.
This all things make Karl Benz's Patent
Motorwagen "world first True
Automobile".
The first true Motorcycle
Daimler- Maybach Reitwagen (1885)
In 1885, Daimler Reitwagen or say riding
wagon was the first Internal
Combustion Engine motorcycle. Made by
Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach.
This German pioneer are often called the
father of Motorcycles. Although it is said
the first Motorcycle but there was 2
Motorcycles in existence before Daimler's
wagon. But they were Steam powered.
The First sports car
There is no a specific definition
for sports car but mostly described as
performance vehicle which can attend
high speed with better agile handling. So
the question which car was first to get
Sports car title?
The 1914 Vauxhall 25 hp "Prince
Henry"/ often called Vauxhall Prince
Henry.
Today sports car have different definition.
Like Aerodynamic shapes, herculean
engine! List goes on. But this was first
true sports car in the world. Not that drag
efficient, didn't had enormous engine! Yet
it is the very first sports car. It was
capable of hitting 125 km/hr and merely
four cars were produced. Designed by
English Engineer Laurancepomeroy. The
all four cars were sold to one person
name as T.W Badgery. The engineer
specially made Prince Henry for T.W
Badgery. It was recently sold in auction at
London for $657,185.
The First Electric Car
It is still in debate that who
invented the first electric car but in 1832
Scottish inventor Robert
Anderson invented the first Crude
electric Car powered by non rechargeable
batteries. On other side in 1835
American Thomas Devanport is also
credited in invention of first practical
Electric car. In 1881 Frenchman Camillie
Faure improve it by using rechargeable
lead acid batteries.
The First Auto Race
July 10th 1895 was the date when world
first automobile race was held in USA.
The Chicago Tomes Herald Race. It
was between six cars and won by Frank
Duryae'sMotorizedwagen. The prize for
winning contestant was $2,000.
The Winner of Chicago Times Herlad
race Frank Duryae
The average speed of wagen was about 5
mph. You may not heard of Duryae
Brothers but they are known as the
Founding father of Automobile industry
in US. They Built their cars in mass
before Hery ford. In 1896 Duryae Motor
wagon Company made their Car along
with its 13 copies. also it was the first car
to get crashed in US.
The First car to hit 100 km/hr
La Jamais Contente (The Never
Satisfied). Sounds strange name but it
was the first to hit 100 km/hr milestone in
1899. It was an electric car from Belgium
. Camille Jantazy the electric pionner and
was first man to break achieve the
milestone.
