Warm greetings and welcome to the Manhattanville School of

Business (MSB). More than ever, business demands

employees and leaders who can navigate through these

turbulent times and it’s a great time to pursue your passion for

business in one of our career focused business programs.

It is said the best way of learning about anything is by doing.

We couldn’t agree more, and our students learn from faculty

who work and are experts in the fields they teach. Students

can apply this knowledge immediately to their jobs facilitating

both learning as well as work performance.

Ensuring our curriculum truly addresses industry demands is

one of the most rewarding parts of my position. I’m currently

working on several updates to our programs so that students

will be even better equipped with the current skills and

knowledge required to be successful in their careers.

In addition, I’ve been collaborating with other academic

departments at Mville to include more dual degree options

between the college’s Bachelors programs and our Masters

degrees. Dual degrees save students time and money by

bridging undergraduate and graduate programs together, and

equally important, dual degrees allow students to pursue

cross disciplinary interests.

Laura Bigouette, Program Director

MSB prides itself in bringing students, faculty and industry

leaders together to share business ideas and for career

networking opportunities. We offered a wonderful career

panel earlier this year and will be hosting a women’s

leadership panel in conjunction with the M.S. Sport

Business Management program in March. Look for

upcoming events in Risk Management, Nonprofit

Management, Women’s Leadership and business career

areas.

What you might not know about me is that I’m a huge

music buff. I enjoy all kinds of music and always have

music playing in the background when I’m working. I love

music trivia, and invite you to share your own music

interests with me. Please stop by my office and say hello

when you’re on campus. My music interests are eclectic

and I may surprise you.

School of Business Graduate Assistant, Christina Surrusco sat down with Laura Bigaouette, Program Director, to learn about all of the programs she manages including the APPEAL adult accelerated undergrad programs, the Post Baccalaureate in Prehealth, summer & winter sessions and the noncredit initiatives.These programs offer targetted programming for various audiences – ranging from high school students, adult and life-long learners, & post-college professionals.

CS: How are our programs unique in comparison to surrounding colleges & programs?

LB: One of the biggest areas of our differentiation is that we provide a high level of personalized

service and support to all of our students. I constantly hear from students that they value the

personal support that we provide through the whole admissions process and enrollment process.

Once they are in the program, students receive guidance on setting up their academic programs

and advisement is available at all times. I advise students all the time. I help them register. I help

them with their career goals and with courses. I advise them throughout the year. Our faculty are

working practitioners and students comment that they get so much relevant and practical

knowledge in each class. People are always free to contact me and I help them immediately with

any questions or issues that they may have. I care very much about students’ goals and

success, and so I pay very close attention to all of our students.

Dave Torromeo, Director,M.S. in Sports Business Management Program

As we hit our ten year anniversary, the program has seen success with stories we hear on a daily basis of students, not only in the sports business industry, but in general. The fact that our current students are able to make critical connections they cannot get anywhere else AND obtaining jobs and internships from our network and ancillary events. The MS Sport Business Management program at Manhattanville College has continued to thrive and foster new relationships and new partnerships creating student engagement in various capacities. Our outstanding practitioner faculty roster includes sports industry veterans from all areas of the sports business industry. Mville SBM is still the only master’s degree program in Sport “Business” in Westchester, NY or Fairfield (CT) Counties. Numerous new initiatives & partnerships are underway with great benefit for the college, students and alumni. Networking and connectivity are the cornerstones to this program.

Our alumni are at the forefront of the sports business industry, from running departments in collegiate athletics and the Olympics, to companies like ESPN, USTA and Octagon, to working for teams like the New York Yankees, Mets, San Diego Padres and New York Rangers to entrepreneurial ventures. Finally, we are on the verge of several major initiatives, but cannot speak about them yet, as we have to dot our “i’s” and cross our “t’s” first…Stay tuned!

MSB GRADUATE PROGRAMS

Graduate Program Director Laura Persky was recently quoted

in the Q1 2017 issue of 914Inc Magazine’s article, Building

Corporate Culture. "Corporate culture and leadership go hand

in hand because building a positive culture starts with the

leadership’s ability to set a good example." Zappos is said to

have a great corporate culture, which has translated to high

performance. Zappos’ leadership defines and practices 10 core

values for creating a playful, passionate and honest work

environment. Laura is quoted as saying “When you make your

employees feel good, the experience is better not only for you

but for all your customers too."

According to research by Great Place to Work, the annual

list of the 100 best workplaces outperform the S & P 500 list

3 to 1.

Can positive leadership be taught? One of Laura’s programs

is the M.S. in Business Leadership, an alternative to an MBA

Program, which examines leadership topics in depth. "Great

leadership requires the ability to communicate and lead

effectively, to understand business strategy, and to

continuously generate growth." These topics and issues are

examined in great detail by faculty practitioners. Great

leaders appreciate the impact of corporate culture on their

organizations and help define the core values to motivate

employees and boost performance.

Interested in the HR perspective of corporate culture? Ask

about another one of Laura’s programs, the M.S. in Human

Resource Management and Organizational Effective. "It’s

not about free food or ping pong tables - great corporate

cultures start with a well communicated strategy and

empowering employees to support the strategy."
