In 2019 we went beyond recycling to bring sustainabilityinto our community. We hosted our annual sustainability week in April toshowcase sustainability on campus and createengagement. To see highlights check out the May 2019Newsletter! Sustainability week ended with our first Green Team!New for 2019, the green team programs took volunteersfrom KUMC to local sporting events to help recycle andeducate fans. We had over 100 volunteers at Royalsgames and NASCAR races at the Kansas Speedway -and we're looking forward to doing more green teams in2020! Also new in 2019 was the Community Conversationsprogram. Formerly Culture Hour - the new CommunityConversations provide space to discuss a variety ofideas. Every 3rd Thursday of the month Sustainabilitytackled topics like Environmental Justice, Zero-Waste,and Sustainability as Healthcare. We also presented a poster on KUMC Sustainabilityat the annual Association for the Advancement ofSustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Conferencein Spokane, WA!

2020 is looking to be another exciting year for KUMCsustainability! This year we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of EarthDay. Join us for our annual Sustainability Weekcelebration from April 20-24. We will have our annualvendor fair with raffle prizes and host Jayhawk Break -bring your reusable mug! Stay tuned for new activitiesand events for Sustainability week this year! We are continuing our green team programs with theRoyals and Kansas Speedway in 2020! If you areinterested, check the recycling events page where datesand information will be posted. We will also continue hosting Sustainability CommunityConversations on the third Thursday of every month inthe HR Conference room - Wescoe 1051. Topics to becovered this year include fast fasion, climate change inKansas City, Botanic Gardens, and what you can do atwork and at home to be sustainable!
