EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

"In FY'16, the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts was able advocate for an

additional $1.2 million dollars of state funding for the Brain Injury Community Center.

You are are not alone."

About Us

The Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts (BIA-MA) is a privatenon-profit organization that strivesto create better futures for those

affected by brain injury.

The purpose of the organization is to educate the public on the risk

and impact of brain injury, promote programs to prevent those injuries,

advocate for improved legislation, and offer support and resources to persons with brain injuries and their families.

Dear Friends,

As my Presidency of the Board of Directors comes to a close, I pause to reflect on how proud I am to have been a part of this fine organization. This year the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts (BIA-MA) focused on growing development to raise the funds necessary to provide for survivors. Between various events, fundraising efforts, and generous donations, BIA-MA raised $387,827 while raising awareness. At the same time we continued to expand our prevention, education, advocacy, and support programs!

During this year we further solidified the structure of the regional offices and the services they provide. This allowed us to grow to 45 support groups that provided 530 activities to over 6,000 participants statewide! These support groups provide an informal setting for brain injury survivors to gather stories and strategies to continue healing.

Another one of our ground-breaking accomplishments is in the field of Education. We are proud to say that the 35th Annual Brain Injury Conference was the biggest ever with 812 participants, 29 workshops, and 50 exhibitors! Other successful trainings included the ABI Clinical Continuing Education Program, Provider Trainings, and Introduction to Brain Injury.

Our goals for the upcoming year include increasing brain injury awareness and BIA-MA visibility, advocating for legislation and improved community services for individuals with brain injury, and continuing to be the premier brain injury resource and information provider in Massachusetts.

Our ground-breaking accomplishments would not have been possible without a strong Executive Director, Nicole M. Godaire, superb staff, committed Board of Directors, corporate sponsors, members, many families and friends of the organization. Because of you BIA-MA remains a leader, not only in Massachusetts, but also as a national brain injury affiliate.

On behalf of BIA-MA's Board of Directors, staff, and many thousands of individuals and families whose lives have been touched, thank you for your ongoing support and involvement.

Sincerely,

Teresa Hayes, MSW, LICSWBIA-MA President
