January 2018

Dear Travel Friend,

If you’re reading this newsletter, the odds are good that you know me, you know Ambassador Tours, and you know the value of working with a family owned-and-operated travel agency that’s been around for more than 60 years. We like to think of ourselves as the worst-kept secret in travel!

We talk a bit about upcoming travel trends for 2018 in this edition, and something that is definitely on everyone’s radar this year is the re-emerging role of the travel agent.

Many of you point to specialization as a key factor - you are looking for destination- or product- focused agents who specialize in that something special you’re looking for. Education and experience are also high on the list, along with expertise and service becoming more and more important to our travel friends.

We know that our travelers want trusted and reliable resources to design extraordinary vacations. The reality is, the travel counselor is not a thing of the past, but rather the gateway to unique and rewarding future travel experiences.

There is so much information on the Internet that our role is, in part, to untangle the information and sift through the dizzying array of “deals” so that we can find our clients the best value to ensure you get what you pay for.

I see an important role for agents for the sophisticated travelers who prefer leaving the details to a skilled, knowledgeable and well-connected consultant. That’s why people use doctors, plumbers and tax accountants rather than doing it themselves! Now your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to tell your friends! We all know people who prefer to do everything themselves, but we invite these friends to work smarter, not harder.

Thanks to on-the-ground intel and connections built over years of networking, our travel counselors can grant unprecedented access to one-of-a-kind, unforgettable experiences that we’ve built through our time in the industry, and can build unique vacation packages not often found through the click of a button on even the best travel sites, thanks to our hyper- personalized travel services.

Read on and let us know your thoughts about our current issue, as well as any future story ideas you’d like to see published - We want to hear from you!!

Wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year.

Sincerely,

Gary M. Pollard, CTC President & CEO [email protected]

ROLLING ON A RIVER CRUISE (AND WE’RE ROLLIN’!) Intimate river cruising. Imagine taking a cruise vacation where the ship actually sailed right up into the heart of some of the world’s most celebrated cities. No tenders. No hour-long bus rides from port into town. Your luxurious ship takes you right into the center of stunning cities like Amsterdam – Holland, Budapest – Hungary, Cologne – Germany, Lyon – France, and Shanghai – China. Up close and personal. Prepare to be wowed. River cruise lines are adding increasingly luxurious ships, more inclusions and authentic destination experiences to attract younger, more active groups. In addition to free Wi-Fi, most river cruise ships now have bikes that guests can use in port and offer complimentary adventure excursions such as a hike to the top of Linz’s Postlingberg or a trek through Vienna’s vineyards. Discover the legendary rivers of Europe, China, Egypt, Russia and the Galapagos Islands from a most exclusive vantage point. Small-ship river cruising allows you to navigate right into the middle of smaller, more off-the-beaten path destinations. Yet despite their smaller size, they deliver an onboard experience that is rich in detail, with views from every angle - offering a voyage of endless possibilities. From China’s mighty Yangtze, to Egypt’s mysterious Nile, to the legendary Danube and beyond, the trip of a lifetime awaits you.

Ambassador Tours invites you to experience a true departure from traditional cruising and find inspiration in breathtaking itineraries, delectable cuisine from award-winning culinary teams, luxurious accommodations, and a unique environment that is intimately inviting, warm and friendly, yet distinct from everything else you’ve ever experienced. What could be more inspiring? COMING SOON TO A RIVER NEAR (OR FAR FROM) YOUOooh, and we mentioned an invitation. We are delighted to invite you to join Gary and Chris on an extraordinary escorted Crystal River Cruise, coming up later this year.

Crystal River Cruises’ Crystal Mahler will take you and your escorts, Gary and Chris, in May from Vienna to Budapest, where you will explore, in depth, sites preserved in rich history, up close and personal.

This 11-night river cruise will visit ports including Vienna, Passau, Linz, Bratislava, Budapest, and more! More than just going from place to place, this itinerary adds the benefit of uniquely exploring Jewish History. Not a religious program, more of a visit into the history of Jewish life. And if you’re a history buff like Gary, there are stories and a passion to this corner of the globe that everyone should get to explore.

REFLECTIONS ON THE DANUBEVienna to Budapest • May 1, 2018 •11 nights There is no better way to experience the grand waterways of Europe and cultured experiences ashore than with Crystal River Cruises. Explore the capital cities and quaint villages of Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. Delight in the highly-personalized service, beautifully designed spaces and exceptional quality - not to mention Crystal’s all-inclusive amenities such as complimentary fine wines and premium spirits throughout the ship, exclusive complimentary Michelin-Star Restaurant Culinary Experiences, your choice of guided Crystal Adventures® shore excursion in every port, as well as gratuities to all who serve you. As your trusty experts in all things travel, we love to take you around the globe and back again in search of the most stunning scenery, epic adventures, extraordinary cuisine, and variety of cultures you have to see to believe. But sometimes, the vacation you’re looking for isn’t quite so far off. We wanted to share with you just a few of our favorite travel spots right here in the U.S.No passport needed.

KAUAINo-filter Kauai stole the show in the Jurassic movies and more than 60 other feature films. The island’s inspiring aerial tours do deliver jaw-dropping views of the towering Na Pali Coast sea cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and other blockbuster locations. But plunging deep into the Garden Island’s wild side requires hitting a trail. Marked hiking paths lead onto the floor of Waimea Canyon, through the shallow bogs of Alakai Swamp, and across unbelievably lush landscapes. One newer route, the five-mile Wai Koa Loop Trail, passes through North America’s largest mahogany forest.

Fifty miles of immaculate, white sand beaches ring the island beckoning to surfers and sun- tanners alike. But not everything is wilderness--luxury resorts abound, as do world-class restaurants and golf courses with spectacular ocean views!

Don’t Miss:• Hike the sweeping Kalalau Trail along the Na Pali Coast• Take a helicopter ride over Waimea Canyon State Park• Try surfing at Poipu Beach or Hanalei Bay• Enjoy lunch in the charming old towns of Hanapepe and Koloa• Swim at Wailua Falls

ANCHORAGEWith Cook Inlet as a front porch, the Chugach Mountains out back, and five national parks nearby, Anchorage offers easy access to Alaskan-size adventures. Add

nearly round-the-clock daylight in summer, and it’s possible to pack a weekend’s worth of activities into one day. Go fishing in the world’s largest urban fishery, hike to a glacier, surf the bore tide along Turnagain Arm, spot a brown bear from a floatplane, and land back at Bear Tooth Grill for a Polar Pale Ale.

Locals like to say that Anchorage is only 30 minutes from Alaska: wedged between 5000ft peaks and an inlet filled with salmon and whales, the Big Apple of the north is unlike any other city.

Dive into this city of parks, museums and restaurants and you’ll see why almost half the state’s population calls it home.

Don’t Miss:• Anchorage Museum• Take in some art and culture at the Alaska Native Heritage Center• Jump on the Anchorage Trolley Tour• Hike up Flattop Mountain Trail

GEORGIAOld sweet songs aren’t the only tunes keeping Georgia on music lovers’ minds. The Peach State’s current homegrown performers are building on the lyrical legacy of legends such as James Brown and Ray Charles. Hear live music or join a jam session in cozy confines such as the Historic Holly Theater in Dahlonega or Atlanta’s Apache Café.

The largest state east of the Mississippi River is a labyrinth of geographic and cultural extremes: small, conservative towns merge with sprawling, progressive, financially flush cities; northern mountains rise to the clouds and produce roaring rivers; and coastal marshlands teem with fiddler crabs and swaying cordgrass. Georgia’s southern beaches and islands are a treat, and so are its kitchens, bars, and yes, contradictions!

Don’t Miss:• Soak up the unspoiled paradise of Cumberland Island National Seashore• Visit the Martin Luther King Jr National Historic Site• Experience the diverse and distinctive cuisine of Savannah• Check out some of the best live music in Atlanta nightlife

One of the perks of the business is getting to share our favorite travel experiences around the globe, and we love ourselves some amazing hotels. From luxe island villas, to far-off exotic oases to grand mountaintop resorts, here are some of our favorite places to rest our heads.

An Island Named Desire.Ever been to The Brando? This all-villa private-island resort in French Polynesia, is…well…cinematic.

Tetiaroa, best known as Marlon Brando’s private island, is a retreat fit for royalty. Once considered a playground for the wealthy, this atoll served as a summer residence for the former chiefs and kings of Tahiti. After many years of being inaccessible to the general public, this new eco-friendly, ultra-luxurious resort, has changed that. It has been built to the highest environmental standards and has been awarded a LEED Platinum Certification.

The Brando offers carefree luxury in the midst of pristine nature. With access to the island by private plane, the resort features 35 villas on white-sand beaches frequented by sea turtles, manta rays and exotic birds. The resort was designed to reflect Polynesian lifestyles and culture. Here you are not just observing nature; you are in it. Put on a snorkeling mask and witness underwater life at a coral garden firsthand, encountering such marine life as sea turtles, rays, reef sharks and a dazzling array of tropical fish.

Every villa is on a white sand beach, has its own outdoor eating and private beach area, its own plunge pool, soft, cozy

furnishings, large windows that let you savor the views, and modern conveniences such as a media room, wifi and a wide selection of movies.

A Magical Escape to an Arabian Oasis. The word ‘oasis’ may suffer from overuse—but in this sense, it’s a perfect fit. The Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri in Abu Dhabi not only sits on a private stretch of beach overlooking the strait that separates Abu Dhabi Island from the mainland, but the entire complex floats above a winding waterway, connected by abras (traditional Arabic boats). It’s also conveniently bordered by a souk. So barter for bracelets and homewares before you sink into a treatment at CHI, The Spa—an Arabica coffee scrub, perhaps, or a rose and honey milk linen wrap—before you settle onto your private balcony or terrace (every room has one).

All rooms are elegantly appointed with modern facilities and Arabian architectural flare. Stand on your balcony and watch the sun set beyond a silhouette of domes and minarets. It promises to be a magical moment, as does each minute of your stay at this modern Arabic haven and its own stretch of white-sand beach.

The grand golden-white main building reflects in the swimming pool by the entrance. Your senses are enchanted by the hotel’s impressive architecture, with its fine Arabic décor, full of warm tones and organic textures. Ranked among the top dining destinations in Abu Dhabi, the hotel offers cuisine choices ranging from fine French fare to

authentic Chinese in the signature Shang Palace.

Unforgettable Mountaintop Experience.Wildflower Hall, Shimla in the Himalayas is set on 22 acres of untouched pine and cedar woods, home to the flora that gives the hotel its name. Interiors feature Burmese teak panels, fireplaces, polished parquet floors protected by oriental rugs, and arched picture windows—all the better to take in your surroundings (which, did we mention, are at the top of a mountain, 8,250 feet above sea level?).

Enjoy nature walks, rafting, cycling or yoga, or relax and rejuvenate with an exclusive spa therapy. Wildflower Hall offers relaxing, rejuvenating treatments unmatched by other spa hotels in Shimla. The open-air whirlpool has magnificent views across the Greater Himalayas, while the indoor pool, lit and adorned by overhead crystal chandeliers, is temperature controlled throughout the year.

Looking for a truly unique dining experience? The main restaurant, which spans a brightly lit indoor dining space, a charming glass conservatory with intimate seating arrangements and an outdoor terrace, has THE MOST magnificent views of the Himalayas. The menu features pan- Indian (including local Himachali), Asian and Continental cuisine. And don’t miss out on the Cavalry Bar - a wonderful setting for an aperitif, a nightcap or to enjoy an interactive history session.

A CLIENT STORY: SOUTH AMERICAN SPLENDOR

My husband and I have been using Ambassador Tours for our travel arrangements for many years. We have found that the expert knowledge and training has been beneficial to the full enjoyment of all our trips.

Most recently we decided we wanted to take a cruise from Buenos Aires to Fort Lauderdale. We had been to Buenos Aires before, but it was just for a partial day before we boarded a plane for our journey home. There were so many things we missed, so we wanted go back. We contacted our Travel Counselor, Peter Flanders, at Ambassador Tours and gave him all the information about what we wanted to see before the cruise. He listened to everything we told him and put together a plan for us. He spent many hours putting together the most perfect itinerary. He booked our cruise, recommended where on the ship we needed be and what type of room suited our needs.

We arrived 3 days prior to boarding the ship. We were booked at a hotel near the airport so we were able to take the hotel shuttle over to spend the night. The next morning, we stored our luggage at the hotel and packed a small bag. A private driver was scheduled to pick us up and drove us to the Regional Airport to board a plane for Iguazu. Iguazu Falls was tops on our list of things to do. It was a short flight and when we landed we had another private driver take us to

our beautiful hotel on the Argentina side of the falls. After lunch, a private guide picked us up and escorted us throughout the falls and even booked us a jet boat ride which took us right underneath the falls! The next morning, he picked us up again and took us to the Brazilian side of the falls. He stayed with us the entire time and attended to our every need and request.

After the tour, he took us back to the airport for the flight back to Buenos Aires. We were totally taken care of the entire time. Seeing that magnificent waterfall was one of the most exciting things we have ever experienced.

The next morning, we boarded the shuttle for the ship. That night we went to a dinner show where they performed the Argentinian Tango. The next morning, we went on a full city tour of Buenos Aires and that night we embarked for Rio De Janeiro. We spent 2 nights in Rio so we had plenty of time to see the sights. We were taken to Sugarloaf to see Christ The Redeemer. We went to Ipanema, and had lunch at a Brazilian Steak House (where we found the food to be delicious and the service outstanding).

We left Rio that night for Salvador. Still a part of Brazil but not nearly as big as Rio, it was a nice little town with a lot of history. As the rest of the cruise continued, we explored four Caribbean Islands with the beautiful sand and water that is a rare sight in most of the world. We went on a full day catamaran cruise to take in parts of islands that are not accessible by land.

As I said, the cruise ended in Fort Lauderdale with great memories and lots of fun thanks to our agent Peter Flanders at Ambassador Tours who made it happen. We are so grateful for him.

You’re never far from the ocean in Chile, a sliver of land squeezed between the Andes and the Pacific. But this is not solely a beach destination—the country encompasses a bone-dry desert, sprawling glaciers, and snow-covered volcanoes that perpetually smolder. The variety of attractions here, from the city of Santiago to first-rate vineyards, sprawling ranches, mysterious geoglyphs, and glittery resorts by the sea, will satisfy any type of traveler.

Stunning nature, extraordinary culture, savory food and friendly people just are few of the reasons to visit Chile.

THINGS NOT TO MISS

Vina del Mar coastlineViña del Mar, Spanish for “vineyard by the sea,” is simply called “Viña” by Chileans, or sometimes “Garden City.” Among the largest resorts on the South American Pacific coast, the city is an hour and a half west of Santiago. The city is divided by the Estero Marga Marga, lined with colorful midcentury high-rise towers, their facades faceted by balconies tilting to the sea.

Easter IslandThe remote Easter Island in the Pacific Ocean is home to more than 800 Moai Statues created by the early Rapa Nui people. Visit the ancient sites, learn about the indigenous people, and enjoy views of the cliffs and water by biking or hiking around the island.

Pumalin ParkProtecting pristine Valdivian temperate rainforest, the largest and most diverse conservation efforts in South America,

Pumalín Park, spans 715,000 acres, and contains trails, campgrounds, and public facilities that allow thousands of visitors a year to experience this majestic landscape.

Torres del Paine National ParkA journey through the wilds of Torres del Paine National Park is no small feat. To fully experience this rugged and beautiful landscape, it requires driving, hiking, horseback riding, and boating in unpredictable conditions. But the rewards are unparalleled: sunsets on the lagoon, hikes to the edges of glaciers, and sweeping views that will get your heart racing.

SantiagoMost visitors arrive in the nation’s capital, a city bustling with boutique hotels, restaurants, shops, art and nightlife. Santiago compares to other South American metropolis in terms of bottleneck traffic, but the city itself has a European feel and stands at an elevation of 1700 feet, surrounded by the Andes mountains.

Colchagua and Millahue Valley vineyardsThe Colchagua Wine Route is graced with many a fine vineyard producing Cabernets, Syrahs, Malbecs and Carménères. To really appreciate the varietals and the stunning landscapes of the Colcagua Valley, going slightly off the beaten path rewards you with incredible experiences – and unparalleled wines, of course.

WHEN TO GOBecause of Chile’s length extending along the continent, its seasons vary from place to place. The best time to visit southern Chile, including Torres del Paine, is the summer (December through March) since they become difficult to explore during the winter. The summer days are long; allowing more time to experience all the country has to offer. In the north, summer is the rainy season, which means afternoon rain showers. Central Chile travel is best in the spring or during fall harvest. Winter can be a great time for skiers in the country’s mountain resorts. The capital, Santiago, is best visited during the summer.

LA BUENA ONDAIn Chile, close borders foster backyard intimacy. Bookended by the Andes and the Pacific, the country averages just over 108 miles wide. No wonder you start greeting the same faces. Pause and it starts to feel like home. Perhaps it’s

because you’ve landed at the end of the continent, but one thing that stands out is hospitality. Buena onda (good vibes) means putting forth a welcoming attitude. Patagonians share round upon round of maté tea. The ritual of relating and relaxing is so integral to the fabric of local life, it’s hardly even noticed. But they do say one thing: stay and let your guard down.

WINE CULTUREBefore wine became an export commodity for the luxury set, humble casks had their place on every Chilean table. Grandparents tended backyard orchards. Now, Chile has become a worldwide producer catering to ever more sophisticated palates. Rich reds, crisp whites and floral rosés, there is a varietal that speaks to every mood and occasion. But at home, it’s something different. It’s not about fancy. Beyond a good meal, it’s great company, the leisure of overlapping conversations with uncorkings, and the gaze that’s met at the clink of two glasses. Salud!

LET’S TALK FOODEach area of the country offers travelers unique environments, and Chilean cuisine is equally as varied. There is an abundance of recipes in each region, but there are a few key dishes you can find no matter where your journey through Chile takes you.

Pastel de ChocloStarting off in the Elqui Valley, a region popular for its stargazing possibilities, you’ll find a range of Andean cuisine. Among the mountainous dishes is pastel de choclo, which translates to “corn pie.” But the dish is so much more than that. There are variations throughout the region, but typically the dish is made with sweet corn that is ground, seasoned, and mixed with a hard boiled egg, olives, and ground beef or chicken.

Empanada de pinoAn empanada is stuffed pastry with a filling which is then baked or fried. Every Latin American country has their own take on the classic empanada, but in Chile you get a lot for your money: There are a handful of fillings used but the most traditional one is pino, ground beef mixed with onions, raisins, olives and hard boiled eggs.

Churrasco sandwichIf you’re a meat eater, you’ll find your bliss in Chile. Churrasco

is thin cuts of steak, grilled and served on a local bread and can be joined with tomato, avocado and mayonnaise. You can find it late at night from various street vendors in Santiago to the restaurants in Andean ski resorts such as Valle Nevado. Served with French fries and a fried egg on top, it can also be served as a full meal in the typical Andean “a lo pobre” style (meaning “poor man’s”).

Arrollado de huasoAn Anthony Bourdain favorite from Chile, arrollado de huaso is pork roll that’s been chopped up, mixed with bacon slices, chilis and spices, rolled in pork skin and then boiled. Served with an avocado salsa and other veggies, it’s a southern Chilean dish.

Sopa PatagonicaA traditional soup dish of the Chiloé Archipelago, a region of several islands off the central coast of Chile, pork meat is mixed with seafood such as shrimp and mussels and Chilean potatoes.

Mote con huesilloWalking through Santiago or other cities in Chile you may see people drinking what looks like a tan cocktail from street vendors. It’s actually a non-alcoholic dessert drink that is traditional for Chileans in the summer called mote con huesillo. It’s made from dried peaches soaked overnight in a nectar syrup and mixed with fresh wheat, water, and dark brown sugar.

SLOW ADVENTUREIn Chile, adventure is what happens on the way to having an adventure. Pedal the chunky gravel of the Carretera Austral and end up sharing ferries with SUVs and oxcarts, taking a wrong turn and finding heaven in an anonymous orchard. Serendipity takes over. Plans may be made, but try being just as open to experience. Locals never rush, so maybe you shouldn’t either.

Convinced yet? From vast deserts and salt marshes, to snow-capped volcanoes and craggy glaciers, Chile packs an unforgettable punch with its seemingly endless natural wonders. Whether you’re looking for urban nightlife in Santiago’s bohemian Bellavista neighborhood, a civilized tasting of spicy shiraz wines or an outdoor adventure trekking alongside sparkling lakes in the shadow of a volcano, a vacation in Chile will exceed your expectations.

Seabourn OvationIn 2018, Seabourn will introduce Seabourn Ovation, a sister-ship to the already prestigious Seabourn Encore. Seabourn Ovation represents another welcome stage in the evolution of small-ship cruising, which Seabourn pioneered and has consistently expanded and enriched. Both ships will deliver a wealth of new concepts, a fresh vision and a host of illuminating ideas to delight the world’s most discerning travelers.

Thoughtfully designed and tastefully curated, every Seabourn suite is filled with delightful touches prepared in anticipation of your arrival. You are greeted with iced Champagne and fresh fruit, a bar stocked to your preference and a luxurious environment in which to unwind or graciously entertain friends.

Few elements of a travel experience are more important or more subjective than dining, and in Seabourn’s ongoing quest to provide you with the world’s finest travel experiences, they have partnered with world-renowned American Chef Thomas Keller, the chef and proprietor of The French Laundry, Ad Hoc, Bouchon, Bouchon Bakery and Per Se.

Want more?? Enjoy a complimentary Massage MomentSM on deck. Indulge your need for pampering at the spa, or pamper your palate at a food or wine tasting. Many voyages feature Seabourne’s signature Caviar in the SurfSM Beach Party or a Marina DaySM, inviting you to enjoy complimentary watersports right from the back of your ship.

The 600-passenger Seabourn Ovation will head to Singapore in late 2018, spending its initial winter sailing in Asia, after an inaugural summer season in Europe. The vessel is scheduled to debut in May 2018.

As travelers, you are involved in exploration, discovering new sights and experiences.

Vacation time is YOUR time – and while you’re enjoying some R&R, you also want peace of mind.

We find that most travelers feel more comfortable having some sort of coverage when cruising or taking a land tour. Travel insurance can mean that you will receive a full refund if you have to cancel your vacation due to accident or illness to you or a family member, or if you have to cut your vacation short because of medical reasons. You may also be fully covered if for some reason a travel supplier, at home or abroad, ceases operations. We sat down with our President and CEO, Gary Pollard, and asked him about his thoughts on the value of travel insurance. Here’s what he said:

Q: If I cancel my trip, do I get my money back? A: Trip cancellation coverage gives cash back for prepaid, nonrefundable payments if you have to cancel your trip for one of the reasons covered by your policy. Some reasons include sudden covered medical emergencies, financial default of a covered airline, cruise line or tour operator, employer termination, and jury duty. Some reasons for cancellation aren’t covered, such as changing your mind about taking a trip or other things not named in your policy/certificate of insurance. Q: If I have an existing medical condition can I still purchase travel insurance? A: Yes, on select products. In order to have existing medical conditions covered, generally the following criteria must be met:

1) You must be a US resident who is medically able to travel on the date you purchase your plan.

2) You must purchase trip cancellation coverage that covers the full cost of all your non-refundable trip arrangements.

3) Your plan must be purchased within 14 days of your original trip deposit or initial payment date unless otherwise specified in your particular plan. Q: Can I change the details of my insurance policy? A: Yes, as long as you have not already departed on your trip or filed a claim. Q: How do I cancel a policy? A: For fastest service, you can cancel your policy by visiting Allianz’ online policy management tool. For a full refund of your premium, you must cancel within 10 days of your policy purchase and have not filed a claim or departed on your trip.

Q: Bottom line, is it worth it?

A: If it’s a big trip, yes. But if you’re not sure, just give us a call!

~Of all the insurance programs available, we recommend Allianz Global Assistance. Quite simply, they provide the best overall value in travel insurance. Here are just some of the reasons why we recommend Allianz Global Assistance:

Coverage for existing medical conditions: This

is a rare opportunity in the world of insurance. Purchase trip cancellation insurance by the time you make your final payment and the exclusion for existing medical conditions may be waived.

Trip Cancellation Insurance: Reimburses your prepaid, non-refundable expenses if you must cancel your trip due to a covered reason.

Baggage Protection: Provides benefits for loss, damage or theft of baggage and personal effects.

Baggage Delay Protection: Covers the reasonable additional purchase of essential items if your baggage is delayed or misdirected by a common carrier for 24 hours or more.

Trip Interruption Insurance: Reimburses the unused, non-refundable portion of your trip as well as increased transportation costs for you to return home due to a covered reason.

Emergency Medical Transportation: Provides up to $300,000 of coverage in the event of an authorized emergency medical evacuation. Provides medically necessary transportation to the nearest appropriate facility. Also covers the cost of your transportation back home following treatment for a covered illness or injury.

As relaxing as it can be, travel is also an investment of both your time and money. The experienced travel consultants at Ambassador Tours can assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

The future of tourism includes ultra-health-conscious hotels, a surge in river cruises, abundant choices to authentic lesser-known destinations—and experiencing some beloved Americana in our own national parks.

In the past year alone, the world of travel has evolved significantly, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down in the year to come. In fact, there are some big trends for 2018 that travelers, travel agents, and destinations around the globe are buzzing about.

River Cruises + Millennials2018 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years yet for river cruises, particularly in Europe.

Uniworld Boutique River Cruises is debuting its U by Uniworld brand targeting 21-45 year olds. While river cruising remains popular for senior travelers, millennials have also become a target market. Focused on experiential travel, Uniworld’s two luxury ships will cruise European waterways and feature DJs, rooftop lounges, yoga classes and adventure excursions, from rock climbing to whitewater rafting.

U by Uniworld is a new take on experiential travel, with cruises designed for those with a passion for exploring and a taste for authentic adventures. Travel should be relaxing, exhilarating, convenient and tailored to your interests—all at the same time.

National ParksFrom the great geysers of Yellowstone, Grand Teton’s majestic peaks, Yosemite’s

famed Half Dome and more, 2018 is the time to discover the beauty of America’s most iconic national parks. Sculpted from glaciers, carved by rivers, framed by mountains, awash with waterfalls and rock formations created by 500,000 years of dripping water, each offers something majestic and unique.

Take in the unequalled views and crimson-striped cliffs of the Grand Canyon at sunrise and hear the thundering surf at Big Sur. Stroll among the giants of Sequoia National Park and step behind the scenes at the Monterey Bay Aquarium on a tour designed for National Geographic Journeys. From Yosemite to Death Valley, escape to some of the greatest natural wonders anywhere.

Off The Beaten Path DestinationsIt’s hard not to get swept up in what’s #trending, especially when it comes to travel. Trouble is, once you get to a destination that’s been infiltrating your feed, you realize your friends somehow managed to crop out the throngs of tourists that populate it.

If you’re looking for something a little more off-the-beaten path, something that harkens to the early, undiscovered days of your favorite destination, may we suggest you take a peek at someoff-the-radar-but-not-for-long predictions, including Havana in Cuba, Inverness in Scotland, Panama City, Ethiopia, Malta, Barbados, and the Cook Islands.

And don’t leave it till too late to book your trip to Bavaria for the 2020 Oberammergau Passion Plays depicting the life and death of Jesus, first performed there in 1634. There’s a lot of interest since announcing the Oberammergau Passion Play tours for 2020. This is a great opportunity to experience a once-in-a-decade event!

Wellness VacationsMore and more resorts are offering unique and personalized wellness vacations, complete with spa treatments, yoga, exercise and more.

With wellness vacations taking center stage for bookings, vacationers are jetting off to blissful destinations in search of their Earth-based Nirvana. Some popular locations include Arizona, Bali, Thailand, India, and the Caribbean. Given these destinations’ prominence for offering some of the world’s best spa and holistic experiences, it comes as no surprise that these continue to be on the top of the list for 2018.

EXPLORE THE WORLD BY RAIL And speaking of major travel trends in 2018, the nostalgia of rail lines is giving way to an emerging industry of train-based tourism. You might be surprised by how cool these trips can be! One of the most romantic and exciting ways to travel abroad is by train. We picked just two of our favorite destinations, where traveling by rail is an experience you simply won’t want to miss.

Love that vintage feel? The German railroad Deutsche Bahn believes in the allure of vintage trains, and the Trans Europ Express train Rheingold, a powerful electric engine and accompanying rolling stock from the 1960s, is its highlight. The sleek train, with deluxe dining car and glass-domed observation car, travels about Europe like a gypsy, passing through villages and countryside by day and stopping in cosmopolitan cities overnight, where passengers repair to deluxe hotels until the whistle blows the next morning.

The romance of Europe. Europe is home to some of the world’s most acclaimed destinations. Your dream may be to stroll the Champs-Elysees, make a wish in the Trevi Fountain, or relax along the Amalfi Coast—or visit any number of big cities, medieval villages and coastal towns in-between. Europe is also home to a vast rail network spanning virtually every European country. When you combine must-see destinations and travel aboard Europe’s sleek trains, the result is an exceptional European vacation.

From the undulating and rugged landscapes of England and its historic flavor to the wild environs and vibrant cities of Ireland, time in the UK is sought after by many travelers. With traditions and history second to none the United Kingdom and Ireland are must see lands of intrigue.

The call of the wild. Nothing beats the thrill of an Alaska train vacation. Riding the rails through majestic mountains, over rushing rivers, and through vast valleys is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. With so many great vacations to choose from, it can be hard to narrow down your options. Let

your experts at Ambassador Tours help you design an Alaska rail vacation that is tailored for you.

With Princess Rail Tours, you can choose from a wide selection of “Land Only” tours. The excitement of your land-only Alaska tour begins the minute you hop on one of their railcars and includes restful overnights at the premier Alaska hotels. Relax and enjoy a meal, a good book or the company of fellow passengers, and let Princess take care of navigation and travel logistics so you can focus on Alaska’s stunning landscape.

A little magic. Scandinavia’s magical Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, often occupy a very lofty spot on many people’s bucket lists, and with good reason. This natural phenomenon is created by the earth’s magnetic fields - at its poles, with incoming solar winds from the sun. The result is one of Scandinavia’s most inspiring natural treasures in a region that is very much ‘powered by nature.’ And you just might catch a glimpse of this marvel while traveling on some of Scandinavia’s most scenic railroads.

The Northern Lights feature prominently in two of the popular Scandinavian tours with Great Rail Journeys. Though there is a chance that they will remain elusive, the sight of these stunning lights truly is remarkable.

One of the most common excuses for not traveling is the cost. But while globetrotting can be a pricey pastime, creative travelers – and those who know to look to their trusty travel professional - can find plenty of ways to get the most value for their hard-earned dollar and still see the world.

If you want to stick to your budget and satisfy your wanderlust, we can find something to fit your travel style. Just because one type of trip is less expensive than what you’re used to, it doesn’t mean you’re getting a subpar experience—you’re just getting a different experience. There are few things we look forward to more than going on vacation. Many of

us plan our entire social calendars around the limited precious time off we have available, so we want to make it count!

We know your time and money are more valuable than ever, and while some of you may be a little hesitant to take a vacation any time soon, now is actually the BEST time to travel. Even more importantly, there is an inherent VALUE in traveling that we can’t

put a price tag on.

Spending quality time with our loved ones and taking time to focus on our personal wellbeing are intangibles that we need to function as happy humans. And let’s not forget about the FUN factor as well! Recharging our batteries and blowing off some steam while out on a grand adventure shouldn’t be overlooked.

Being a family owned and operated travel agency, the significance of family and time well spent holds special meaning for those of us here at Ambassador Tours. One of the best ways to enjoy family time? Get traveling!

Ambassador Tours is having a huge CRUISE SALE from Jan. 15 - Jan. 26, 2018. We will be featuring many of our wonderful cruise lines, including Princess, Crystal, Cunard, Holland America and Royal Caribbean.
