Improving the quality of rural and peri-urban areas is a universal challenge. Land development projects should be sustainable, integrated and comprehensive in order to find a balanced mix of agriculture, nature, industry, housing, recreation and culture. New rural policies, land management tools and scientific insights and innovation on environmental management require a dynamic and integrated approach. Since 2004 similar land administrations and scientific institutions from Belgium and China face these challenges together and share their know- ledge and experience. Learn from their experiences and discuss the future challenges on rural and peri-urban development during this Sino-Belgian seminar on rural development.
