In 1980, Terry Fox, a Canadian Hero began his Marathon of Hope. He himself had a type of bone cancer in his leg. His leg had to be removed. But that didn’t stop Terry. On a prosthetic leg he embarked on a cross Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Terry’s goal was to collect $1.00 from every Canadian.

The cancer unfortunately spread and Terry’s life ended in 1981. But Terry’s story and his dream lives on today. Worldwide more than 9000 Terry Fox walk/runs are held in Canada and around the world every year. Over the past 34 years more than 650 million dollars has been raised worldwide in the name of Terry Fox. On Wednesday September 17

th EBPS was very fortunate to have a

volunteer from the Terry Fox Foundation as our guest speaker. Mr. Darrin Park is surviving cancer. His role with the Foundation is that of a Terry Team Member. Mr. Park takes time to speak to students in schools and at many community events all around Edmonton and area. Mr. Park’s presentation was

engaging as he shared his own experience with cancer and his connection to Terry Fox. The presentation reawakened everyone’s interest in Terry Fox.

Terry’s dream was to raise money in hopes of finding a cure for all the types of cancer. On Wednesday September 24

th EBPS along with 9000 schools all

across Canada will participate in the Terry Fox National School Run day. At EBPS Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope continues to grow strong.

The Cross Country Running team has been working hard already this year! They have participated in their first event and did a great job of representing École Broxton Park School in Entwistle. Students along with coaches M. Mathieu and Ms. Tuchak are enjoying our fall weather and getting some exercise too! Great job everyone!

MY Leadership Supports Parkland Foodbank

Late last school year the Middle Years Leadership team at École Broxton Park School held a movie day for Parents and Students, where the entry fees collected for the movies were to be donated to the Parkland Food Bank. The leadership team collected $504.25 that they would like to proudly donate to the Parkland Foodbank. Representatives received the donation on September 18. A true show of Fusion Spirit!

Parkland Food Bank is selling tickets for “A Night at Galaxyland” taking place Saturday October 4, 2014 from 7:30- 10:30pm. Tickets are $12 each. The funds raised will go towards our building expansion that is so desperately needed! Tickets available at the Parkland Food Bank 105 Madison Crescent Spruce Grove or call Sheri @ 780-566-5780
