Three writers from the north east and three writers from London have been challenged to write a play inspired by a song. The only rules: the song must be by an artist from their region, and the play must be no longer in running time than the song by which it was inspired.

Featuring new work by Joe Harbot (The Boy On The Swing), Laura Lindow (Sawdust & Stardust), Tracy Whitwell (Come To Where I’m From), Matt Hartley (Epic), Hannah Mulder (The Girl With The Iron Claws) and Corinne Salisbury (A BAcchae) and followed by live music by artists from around the region, PLAYlist is set to kick off FUSES in style.

Based on our nation’s love affair with alcohol, Thirsty weaves together real stories, memories and booze based confessions, collected from a ‘drunken hotline’ and an online questionnaire.

Fusing live music, verbatim text and stunning physical theatre, The Paper Birds explore the stories and social repercussions of lost memories and gained traumas, bruised knees, uncontrollable laughter, urine stained beds and sore heads, particularly focusing on the women waving the flag for ‘Booze-Britain’.

A dynamic theatrical exploration delving beyond statistics, facts and figures Thirsty looks to the faces and the voices of everyone who likes a drink and asks why, as a nation, are we so thirsty?

ParkingThere is a car park in the Trinity Gardens complex 100 metres from the Theatre, which can be accessed from City Road and Trinity Gardens. This secure car park is open from 7am to midnight and costs 90p per hour and is free after 5pm. There is limited on-street parking on Broad Chare and additional car parks nearby.
