AR-1215/J TEST PROCEDURES 1) Make the continuity check on all the outlets ground connections to the chassis; they should be
less than one ohm. Set the VR2 (Extreme Voltage shut down set point) to the center position. Set the output voltage selector switch of the AR-1215J to 120V.
2) Plug in a test lamp (120V 100W or close to it) to the AC outlet in the rear of the AR-1215; then
plug the AR-1215 to the VARIAC power outlet (set the output voltage of the VARIAC to 120V). Hook up an AC voltmeter to the VARIAC output also so you can monitor the voltage that is feeding the AR-1215, hook up another AC voltmeter to the AR-1215 outlet to monitor the output voltage of the AR-1215. Apply the power to the unit.
3) Observe the AR-1215 front panel LEDs voltmeter, it should scan and it should indicate 120V when
the scanning stops, observe the output voltage of the AR-1215 on the AC voltmeter, it should indicate 120V (within +/-1V). Adjust the VARIAC up and down (from 100V to135V) you should see the front panel LEDs voltmeter moves up/down and indicates the AC input voltage, it should read the same as the AC voltmeter that is hooked up to the VARIAC outlet, also observe the AC volt meter on the AR-1215 outlet, it should maintain the output voltage of 120V (+/- 5V). NOTES: IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT WHEN THE INPUT VOLTAGE IS AT 120V, THE OUTPUT VOLTAGE MUST BE AT 120V (+/- 1V); IF IT IS NOT, THE 60HZ 90 DEGREE CLOCK GENERATOR CIRCUIT WILL HAVE TO BE TRIMMED WITH THE RESISTOR, R58 (20K) MAY HAVE TO BE INSTALLED OR REMOVED. THE VALUE CAN BE VARIED FROM 20K TO 100K. IF THE INSTALLATION/REMOVAL OF R58 DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, YOU MAY HAVE TO INSTALL A 3.9M~10M RESISTOR BETWEEN TO PIN 5 AND PIN 14 OF U14C OR PIN5 AND GROUND OF U14C INSTEAD (R58 CANNOT BE INSTALLED AT THE SAME TIME).
4) Adjust the VARIAC output voltage to between 75V to 80V (65V to 75V @100V output setting for
AR-1215J), the AR-1215 should go into shut down (Extreme voltage LED should come on) mode, if not, adjust VR-1. Repeat this step a couple of times to make sure it will shut down when the applied voltage falls between 75V to 80V.
5) Adjust the VARIAC output voltage to between 140V to 150V (130 TO140V @100V output setting
for AR-1215J); the AR-1215 should go into shut down mode, if not, adjust VR-1. Repeat this step 4 and step 5 a couple of times to make sure it will shut down when the applied voltage falls between 75 to 80 volt and between 140 to 150V. Turn off the AR-1215.
6) For AR-1215J (Japan), you use the same procedures as above but the AR-1215J output voltage
will maintain at 100V (+/-5v) output when the output voltage switch is set to 100V output.
