FUNDUS PHOTO’S NEW VISION OPHTHALMIC IMAGING SOFTWARE
SELECTED FOR THE VOLK PICTOR PLUS PORTABLE IMAGER
Fundus Photo is delighted to announce that Volk Optical Inc. has acquired the rights to use Fundus
Photo’s New Vision Ophthalmic Imaging software suite in its new digital ophthalmic imager, the
Pictor Plus.
The Pictor Plus is a lightweight, portable ophthalmic camera featuring two easily interchangeable
imaging modules, the posterior and anterior segments. Capturing detailed high-resolution retinal
images and external eye imaging, the device reveals superficial damage, visual impairment, and the
early onset of diseases such as diabetes.
Weighing less than one pound, the device allows eye care professionals to administer their practice
in different locations including exam rooms; satellite diagnostic screenings; and nursing homes. The
portable ophthalmic imager’s ability to aid diagnosis in adverse locations also benefits treatment in
medically underserved areas and economically developing countries.

A proven success in the rapidly expanding telemedicine industry, the Pictor Plus is an improved
version of Volk’s original Pictor digital ophthalmic imager. The Pictor Plus features new additions
including auto focus assist; fixation targets; and improved glare-free anterior segment imaging. A full
list of features is available via Volk’s website.
Fundus Photo’s ophthalmic imaging software enables practitioners to upgrade existing fundus
cameras to 20-megapixel high resolution digital and transfer images to and from Electrical Medical
Record systems.
Using inbuilt Wi-Fi technology, professionals can enter patient information directly in to the Pictor
Plus. The handset integrates with any PC or mobile device, uploading JPEG format images and their
corresponding data to the practice’s database system for patient record updates in compliance with
Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) protocol.
Fundus Photo’s New Vision ophthalmic imaging software upgrade is installed onsite once Volk’s
Pictor Plus device has been purchased and delivered to its destination. Fundus Photo’s commitment
to customer service waives any support contracts to provide free assistance for anyone in possession
of the Fundus Photo system.
Speaking on the company’s new partnership with Volk Optical Inc., Dale Brodsky, CEO of Fundus
Photo explained: “The integration of Fundus Photo’s software into the Pictor Plus marks a great
success in our relationship with Volk as we work together to grow eye care awareness and promote
the benefits of telemedicine technology.”
“As part of our mission to provide the latest innovative technology in eye care to private practices;
surgery centers; and hospitals around the world at affordable cost, the Pictor Plus represents a
sensitivity to the needs and budgets of small to mid-sized practices that strive to provide exceptional
care for their patients.

“We hope this partnership will strengthen Fundus Photo’s presence in the optimology market, as
well as create new opportunities to engage with optometrists and primary care physicians.”
Medicare utilization rates for claims in 2012 reveal that fundus photography was performed in eight
percent of all office visits to the nation’s 18,000 ophthalmologists. That is, for every 100 exams
performed on Medicare beneficiaries, Medicare paid for this service eight times. For the United
States’ 50,000 optometrists, the utilization rate is about 13%.1
The Pictor Plus is currently available in the USA, Canada, Brazil, the EU and Australia, with added
distribution to Mexico and Japan coming soon. For other countries and regions, the first generation
Pictor portable ophthalmic camera may be available. More information on the original Pictor imager
is available via Volk’s website.
Fundus Photo’s digital image upgrader is also sold separately with a one year warranty including
updates, upgrades and unlimited telephone support. For more information about Fundus Photo, and
its FDA-cleared, cross-platform, ophthalmic digital imaging solution, visit the company’s website.
