Whole Food Supplements Since 19291

Your patients come to see you for many reasons—stress, fatigue,

digestion problems, hormone health...just to name a few.

And many of their complaints have a nutritional component.

Simple Fundamentals for a Strong FoundationStandard Process offers more than 170 whole food supplements, many with specialized uses for the individual needs of your patients. To help you get started, this catalog highlights core products that address basic health issues your patients may be concerned with. These versatile products are easy to implement into any nutritional program and can become the foundation of your patients’ protocols.

Our MissionStandard Process is devoted to improving the quality of life by providing the safest, most effective, highest quality dietary supplements through health care professionals.

Whole Foods and the Whole Food PhilosophyAt Standard Process, we believe that optimal nutrition is achieved by eating whole foods. Whole foods offer health-promoting nutrients, both known and unknown. Research now suggests that single nutrients, taken out of the food complex, may not be as effective in promoting health as eating the whole food. That is why we incorporate whole food ingredients into our products.

Our product formulas contain unique combinations of synergistic ingredients to provide specific, nutritional support to your patients. For example, Catalyn® contains 15 whole food ingredients, including carrot root which supplies over 200 known phytonutrients. It’s the combination of these foods, not just a single component, which provide the vitamins, minerals, and micronutrients your patients need to help maintain optimal health.

Not all Supplements are Equal, Especially When it Comes to QualityAt Standard Process, quality is an integral part of every step in our production process. We manufacture our products to preserve the quality of whole food constituents using research, innovative technology, and organic farming.

Organic Farming Our certified organic farm grows many of our products’ raw ingredients, including alfalfa, barley grass, beets, Brussels sprouts, buckwheat, kale, kidney beans, oats, pea vine, and Spanish black radish.

Our farm is monitored annually by certifying agencies to ensure it meets organic farming standards.

Quality Control We conduct repeated testing for quality and safety throughout our manufacturing process. On average, a product is tested six times.

We follow FDA-established, current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).

We utilize analytical methods approved by the Association for Analytical Communities and the United States Pharmacopeia.

Manufacturing Our supplements are manufactured in our 280,000-square-foot facility, where we produce more than 170 products.

To preserve nutritional integrity, our raw materials are dried in low-temperature, high-vacuum dryers.

Our tablet presses and capsule machines allow for high-volume production without sacrificing quality.

in MultivitaminA Whole Food Multivitamin is Important for HealthGood nutrition is the key to health. The body cannot exist without food and water. More importantly, the quality and nutritional value of the foods that are eaten greatly impact health.

Foods today are often deficient in good nutritive value for several reasons. The Western diet is comprised mostly of processed and refined foods. These foods are commonly eaten at the expense of nutrient-dense, whole foods. To complicate matters, we are regularly exposed to many environmental toxins, also having a negative impact on our health.

Most people take a multivitamin to supply the body with nutrients missing from the typical modern diet. However, not all multivitamins are the same. Many contain single nutrients in high amounts. Research now suggests that single nutrients, taken out of the food complex, may not be as effective in promoting health as eating the whole food.1, 2 Whole foods, on the other hand, offer essential nutrients, both known and unknown, that are needed to support health. It is therefore important to offer your patients a whole food multivitamin that contains many of the known and unknown nutrients found in food.

Calc

ium Calcium

How Calcium Supports HealthCalcium is essential for various body functions beyond bone mineralization, including muscle contraction; nerve conduction; the function, maintenance, and permeability of cell membranes; blood coagulation; and the proper functioning of many enzyme systems. When selecting a calcium supplement, evaluate the source of the calcium. The three most common sources are calcium carbonate, calcium citrate, and calcium lactate. One major downfall of calcium carbonate is that it is not easily digested and, therefore, poorly assimilated and utilized by the body. Other forms of calcium, such as calcium lactate and calcium citrate, are superior to carbonate. These sources of calcium are more easily absorbed and easier to digest than calcium carbonate. Standard Process supplements are comprised primarily of calcium lactate as it is readily absorbed.

Essential Fatty A

cids (EFAs)

Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs)How EFAs Support HealthEFAs are unsaturated fatty acids that the body does not make on its own but needs in order to maintain good health. We can only obtain EFAs from our diet. There are two types of EFAs: omega-3s and omega-6s. EFAs are essential for regulating cellular processes, such as regulation of enzymes, cell signaling pathways, gene expression, and oxidation of fats to name a few. They also influence membrane function and integrity, produce hormones, and are especially important for making prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are hormone-like substances that regulate many activities in the body.

Protect Against Free RadicalsResearch demonstrates that cruciferous vegetables, such as kale and Brussels sprouts, contain important phytonutrients that help protect against free radicals, the highly unstable molecules that can damage cells and genetic material. Fiber

FiberNatural Digestive SupportThe recommended intake of fiber for adults is 25-38 grams per day. Data suggests that the standard American diet runs consistently low in fiber (approximately 15 grams per day) due to the high consumption of refined wheat flour and a reduced intake of whole grains, fresh fruits, and vegetables.

Dig

esti

on DigestionDigestion is Important in Obtaining Good HealthThe job of the digestive system is to break down food—proteins, fats, and carbohydrates—into smaller components to support the building and nourishing of cells and to provide energy. This process requires enzymatic support from many glands and organs, including the stomach and the pancreas. In the absence of thorough digestion and enzymatic action, the cells in our bodies will fail to get all the nutrients foods provide. Many people require extra enzymatic support to help them properly digest food.

Liver and Gallbladder Support

Liver and Gallbladder SupportTwo Vital Organs That Work TogetherThe liver and the gallbladder serve as a team, working to eliminate toxins and other agents that are taken into the body.

The liver is the body’s largest organ and performs more than 500 different functions each day. Some of its major functions include synthesis and utilization of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins; metabolism and excretion of toxins from the body; and storage of glycogen, as well as several nutrients. The liver also manufactures bile, which is stored in the gallbladder. Bile aids fat digestion and supports absorption of several nutrients, including vitamins A, D, E, and K. Bile supports the removal of some toxins and other agents through the bowels.

Proper liver and gallbladder function is essential to health. Poor nutrition and continual exposure to toxins can put the liver and gallbladder under stress. The whole food supplements in this section provide vital nutrients to support optimal functioning of the liver and gallbladder.

Adrenal Support

Adrenal SupportSupporting the Stress-handling GlandsThe adrenals or “stress glands” are small glands located on the top of the kidneys. The adrenal glands are involved in several physiological functions, such as:

Producing and releasing a variety of hormones that help the body handle stress and fatigue

Maintenance of fluid balance

Modulation of the body’s natural inflammatory response

Production of the steroid hormones, the vitality hormones that determine overall strength, energy, and stamina

Many of us live in a state of constant stress that drains our bodies to the point of exhaustion. Over time, and through repetition, this can impact the way the adrenal glands function.
