Bayer Corporation, Pittsburgh, PA: SCTC Relocation Project: Provided mechanical engineering services to

support relocation of processes and equipment from Bldg. 2 machine area in West Virginia to the Pittsburgh campus. Project included mechanical and HVAC infrastructure to support multiple machine area production lines and 2 new lab facilities with lab exhaust hoods and stringent temperature and humidity control.

Bayer Project Move: Site assessment of existing conditions, code review, floor plans with details, finish plans and materials and coordination support for the relocation of Bayer staff to multiple buildings. Complete office renovations and HVAC design for multiple campus buildings

Existing Office Buildings Renovation Projects: Project included the development of design concepts of renewing the exterior façade of corporate office buildings to improve appearance, and energy

efficiency, as well as the redesign of interior spaces to increase collaboration and improve space utilization.

IBM/Lenovo, Research Triangle Park, NC: Participated on a team of more than 200 people and 4 design firms

to renovate 450,000 SF of Class A office space into computer server research and development space for the acquisition of a sever business unit. The $100 million project was designed in 10 weeks and ready for occupancy 16 weeks later. This hyper-tracked, design-build project overcame communication and scheduling hurdles by utilizing CH2M HILL Lean Delivery method.

Project involved design of a 100,000 SF Level 3+ data center with 150 W/SF power density requirements. This facility started with a “blank sheet of paper,” challenging the team to develop concepts to take this customer forward beyond the status quo. The team evaluated multiple architectural, mechanical, and electrical design concepts to provide the client with a state-of-the-art facility with budgetary constraints. Responsibilities include final review of mechanical specifications and design documents, performing calculations involving cooling and heating loads, static pressures, air handling equipment and exhaust fan sizing, pump and valve sizing, and make-up air requirements. Also provided a comprehensive piping design analysis using Pipe-Flo® Professional 2007.

Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA: Retrofit of an existing a 1,000 SF area to house a new data center at

approximately 150 W/SF. The area was supported with new redundant CRAC units, PDU’s, and UPS system. CFD modeling was used to review cooling impacts on loss of power and chilled water. Design was equivalent to Tier 3, based on TIA standards.

Replacement and upgrade of existing Data Center CRAC units for Cyert Hall. Under strict requirement of maintaining the uninterruptable data center, detailed planning and phasing was required to upgrade the cooling equipment and supporting mechanical infrastructure.

Sydlik Lab Project included the redesign of a facility graduate and undergraduate research laboratory and the adjacent supporting spaces. Eight new variable volume laboratory exhaust hoods with gas services, a new make-up air unit, variable volume air valves, and distribution services were designed and installed for this project.

Mechanical upgrades for the music practice rooms for College of Fine Arts historical building. Project included a new HVAC unit and the supporting services and distribution system to serve the practice rooms and adjacent classroom.

LEAD ENGINEER PROJECTSIntel, Hudson, MA: Renovation of existing basebuild and PSSS systems to facilitate new factory

toolset for expanded wafer throughput. Project includes extensive modification of DI water, chemical, gas, exhaust, tool power distribution, emergency power, and UPS power systems. Project also included renovation of existing cleanroom areas to facilitate new tool layout.

Performed engineering analysis of 8 existing 100HP centrifugal condenser water pumps, which had trimmed impellers and triple duty valves that throttle to 80 percent, and determined the actual flow and head pressures required to properly operate the system condenser and chilled water system. Design services included new proposed piping modifications required for the different style of pumps (vertical turbine), racking system, and couplings to allow guided pump removal for maintenance and services proposed, head pressure calculations, pump sizing and selection, specifications, and site discipline coordination. Flexibility and phasing were required in the design to allow for continuous system operations during pump replacement and to allow for system adjustments should the associated cooling towers ever be replaced.

Office renovation HVAC design study. Responsible for the HVAC portion of the study which included determining heat loads, outside air requirements, and the VAV box and supply air distribution modifications required for three different options

AHU-7&8 Replacement and modifications to original design by others. Responsible for the design and engineering calculations required to modify the original design, by others, in order to replace the AHU units. Verify units’ physical size so as to be able to replace existing units with minimal impact to customer. Create construction documents required to completely install new units which included installation of duct mounted smoke dampers, transitions to existing ductwork, and roof curb design.

Professional Experience, continuedATK Tactical Systems, Rocket Center, WV: The project involved design services for a new chemical vapor deposition

(CVD) process, including vacuum system, waste collection, gas storage and distribution, scrubbed exhaust, emergency power, instrumentation and control design, structural, and architectural design and specifications. A fast-track project execution method was implemented.
