Durian peel can help clear oil spills.

Page 3: Fun facts about fruits

This was found by Malaysian researcher Dr S. Kathiresan of AIMST University. But this doesn’t mean that you’ll soon see durian husks being used to contain oil spills! The durian peels have to undergo substantial

processing into a powdered form and modified with chemicals before they can be used as an oil absorbent material. The modified durian peel powder can also be

rejuvenated after absorbing oil, so that it can be recycled and re-used for up to three times.

Heavy drinking depletes the body of potassium. This draining of potassium is one of the reasons you feel so bad when you have a hangover. Bananas are high in potassium and help to replace the potassium

you've lost.

Bananas are also high in B6, a vitamin that has been shown in studies to reduce hangover symptoms.

Eating an apple is a more reliable method of staying awake than

consuming a cup of coffee.

The natural sugar in an apple is more potent than the caffeine in coffee. Most of the sugar in

apples is also glucose, which is easier for the body to digest than other forms of sugars that

may be contained in products like coffee creamer and sugar substitutes. The vitamin

content of the apple also helps increase alertness.

You can speed up the ripening of a pineapple by standing it upside down.
