A note from Cheryl... Over the summer several of us had the opportunity to complete a study called “Compelled By Love,” based on the verse in 2 Cor. 5:14, for Christ's love compels us. We were each challenged to take our faith out into the everyday places that we go, sharing the love of Christ with whomever God brings across our path. As we head into the fall, I pray that we would all be doing this in increasing measure! I'm asking Him to really open my eyes to the people around me, to make the most of every opportunity, to know that some need to know Christ for the first time, and others just need to be reminded of His very great love for them. This fall, we have several opportunities for women. Some are designed to equip us to feel confident about reaching out to the world, like our Ministry Training for Women class on Wednesday nights. Others are an opportunity to bring a friend who has been looking for somewhere to fit, such as our Eat & Greet event in November. They are all an opportunity for us to be Radiant!! Please take time to look through this newsletter and see what opportunities you might want to be a part of. Also, Lauren Ellison has written an article about human trafficking that will touch our hearts, and hopefully inspire us all to pray into this heartbreaking situation. Please let Teresa Burchfield ([email protected]) or me ([email protected]) know if you have any questions about anything. If you have an idea for activities, studies, or events in the future, please let us know that too! Coming Events... Coming Events... Coming Events... Expand...Expand...Expand... How does a follower of Jesus Christ make sense of human trafficking? During a visit last fall to the small country of Moldova in Eastern Europe, I spent time with over 150 practitioners from around the world who work on the front lines of the war against human trafficking. I listened as these men and women described the brutality involved.

Imagine that you come upon a river, and at a certain point downstream on this river you see numerous bodies that have washed ashore. These women, men, and children whom you discover have all been wounded, some alive and some dead. Your initial reaction is horror over the scene you have encountered. Eventually you begin to look upstream, wondering what evil could have possibly caused this brutality and devastation.

Human trafficking is about the exploitation of vulnerable men, women, and children for profit. It is an example of the wicked preying upon the poor. Scripture and ex-plains God’s perspective on this atrocity, and tells us that the Lord hears the desire of the afflicted and strengthens their hearts (see Psalm 10:8-18).

The problem of human trafficking is complex, and the greatest weapon we have in this physical and spiritual war is prayer. A relief organization called International Justice Mission lists the following requests: Ask God to inspire and equip local government

authorities to combat slavery. Pray for the Christian community in the areas of the

world where slavery is rampant. Ask God to bless the local Body of Christ with

conviction, wisdom, and courage so they might intervene to stop this violence.

Ask God to comfort all who are held in slavery and awaiting rescue.

Pray for the full restoration of those who have been rescued.

Ask God to raise up qualified Christian professionals to help rescue and assist survivors.

Pray that God will bring awareness to the Body of Christ around the world concerning modern-day slavery, the Biblical mandate for Christians to seek justice, and the need for financial resources to pay for the rescue that the poor cannot afford.

May we always remain close to the poor! ~Lauren Hartin
