Nothing but results and a little

more

As you will see in the pages below, there were plenty on competitions in all disciplines this past summer, so a huge thank you from the MPRA to everyone that competed, coached and helped in one way or another running these events. No doubt some are already thinking about training, organizing indoor fall programs or just planning the annual fall hunt so stay safe and introduce someone new to the sport. . Our Novice program will have an open house at the Air Rifle range on October 10th at 7:00pm with classes starting the following week on the 17th. One change we have made this year is to split the classes into two one hour shifts due to the interest received this past summer. Hopefully this should not impact returning members to much.

Access to Gateway Gun Club will also start soon for regular members on Monday nights, but remember every third Monday the range is reserved for the Novice program. The range at Minto Armoury should also be opening up on Wednesday evenings.

A sign that a change is in the wind Kevin Hagen, F-Open competitor trying his hand at target rifle. Now if someone would send me the pictures of Chapman and Murray shooting F-TR, we would have a matching set.

Carty and Whitehead Cadet Matches The M.P.R.A. has had a very long association with cadet associations in this province and Leo Poulin has made this possible for many years. Winners of the Capt H.A. Carty match this year was the 220 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron.

Cadets featured in the photo above are Sierra Hill, Michella Mark, Aaron Watson-Tully, Dylan

Hansen, Colin Roer, and Nick Mark. We have invited them to join us at our air rifle range and

receive some additional coaching from Rob Deneka.

PGW Western Canadian F Class Championship A great shoot with some of the best marksmen in the country and a superb organizing committee. Special thanks to all the sponsors and especially PGW Defense Technologies for supporting this event in a major way the past 4 years. A special honor was made by presenting a travelling trophy for Team Shoot Champions, named after the competitions creator, Les Dolhun.

Nationals were once again a great experience for all of our Athletes. Personal bests in Air Rifle were shot by

Kaitlin Rempel and Chad Ladan in Air Rifle. This year in particular, Nationals represented the trials for the

Championships of the Americas (CAT Games) (Date/Place TBA), the ISSF World Championships (September

2015, Granada Spain) and the Commonwealth Games (Glasgow Scotland July 2015). As both Monica and

Connor finished in 1st and 2

nd place (only 0.5 points apart), both Manitoba Athletes have qualified for the CAT

Games and the World Championships. The decision on the representation at Common Wealth Games will be

decided by the Shooting Federation of Canada later this year. Congratulations to both Athletes for a job well

done!!!

F-Open Winner Keith Skjerdal

RATON, NEW MEXICO 2013-US NATS & World's Championships Congratulations to Gerry Wiens, Sean Thiessen and Bruce McDonald who help make up Team Canada at this event. Sixteen countries sent teams and Canada took home the Silver medal. Great work guys. More to follow in the next newsletter but here are some comments for the Raton thread at Canadiangunnutz.

Please let us know how they are managing to have all those relays in 1 day too, like let us know what time the last relay comes off the line. USFCN has 383 competitors and with 87 targets in use, that is still 5 relays and it will be even worse for the 2 day indivs with 422 shooters. My math says 6 relays each allowed 40 min., starts at 8 am and would not come off the line until 8pm with 6 relays for 3 yardages.

We started today (the first day) by getting to the range at 6:00 am and the last relay didn't finish until 6:30 tonight!! Very long day. Started with a flag raising ceremony for the 16 countries then the first of 6 relays. The first relay had reasonable winds, the last was almost calm but the middle was in the afternoon and was like shooting in a tornado. Right in the middle of the string we had about a 4-5 minute wind shift. Went from holding 5 minutes right to 1 left and back and forth for about 5-6 shots before things settled down again. Then in the later afternoon we had to stand down for a lightning and thunder show. Interesting place Raton!!

Gord was on fire yesterday. The condition really started to come up and Gord, to the amazment of most, dropped only one point in the 15 round string. Wind and mirage reading here is difficult, and unlike anything I have ever experienced. Just sort of getting my head around how the wind is working at the 1000y range. (This was from one of the Nova Scotia boys)

The last of the shots are fired, we score well, and we are down to 1 shooter and...... LESS THEN 5 MINUTES LEFT. Good grief, we aren't going to finish. If anyone said Canucks don't know how to "gun", they got schooled at what came next. Believe it or not, there was a wait as conditions were confirmed then the call to fire was given and I have never seen anyone shoot a bolt gun that fast with that level of precision. FREAKING AMAZING. Relay ends with just over 1 minute on the clock. That is not just fast, that is SMOKING...... So on that relay, I am proud to say a group of Canucks showed up, got it done despite the ups and down, saved points and truly deserved the medal they won.

The most intense 85 minutes of my shooting career. Great coaches, precise teamwork, solid shooting, focused strategy, World Class TEAM..... Best 85 minutes of my shooting career ;-) Jerry

Special note, Ken Nelson shot possibles at every range on the first day and John Dalgleish shot a new range record of 50-8V’s the second day at 500 yards. Barry Hamilton was match winner for all aggregates in F-TR which is no surprise as he has be a winner all summer long. Have a great fall and stay safe if you are hunting or travelling about..
