1 IntroductionThe ServerView Update DVD Base package, in the following referred to as Update DVD Basefor short, allows you to create a system-specific bootable USB stick for updating yourPRIMERGY or PRIMEQUEST server(s) or CELSIUS workstation(s) with the latest firmware, server management software and driver software.

Unlike the Update DVD, the Update DVD Base allows you to restrict the scope of availableupdates to the group of systems which you can explicitly select during the creation processof the USB stick or separately later on. This minimizes the required size of the USB stick.

To select the update components and download them onto the bootable USB stick, theServerView Content Collector (Content Collector for short) is used.

Once created from the Update DVD Base, the USB stick offers the same usage modes as theUpdate DVD or a USB stick created from it, i.e. you can start the ServerView UpdateManager Express from this USB stick. The scope of updates offered for selection by theUpdate Manager Express will then be restricted to the systems selected during USB stickcreation.

Depending on the status of the server that is to be updated, you have the followingalternatives:

l Start Update Manager Express under a supported Windows Server or Linux operatingsystem.

If a supported Windows Server or Linux operating system with installed Java RuntimeEnvironment version 7 or higher is running on your server, you should normally usethis procedure.

l Start Update Manager Express after booting the server from the USB stick.

Choose this procedure if there is no Java Runtime Environment or no supportedoperating system running on your server.

See the "Local System Update for PRIMERGY Servers" manual for details.

2.3 Creating the USB stick

2.3.2 Creating the USB stick using the CLI

Creating a bootable USB stick using the command line interface (CLI) consists of thefollowing steps explained in detail below:

1. Preparing the USB stick.

2. Writing to the USB stick using the CreateUSBStick.bat script from the Update DVDBase.

2.3.2.1 Preparing the USB stick

Before you can start the CreateUSBStick.bat script, you must first prepare the USB stick tomeet the above requirements.

Proceed as follows:

1. Connect the USB stick to your PC.

2. Start the diskpart tool in a command line (cmd.exe).

Unlike the usual notation, drive letters in diskpart are not followed by a ":".Example: In diskpart, the notation "F" is used instead of "F:".

a. Enter list disk to get a list of all disks.

Identify the line representing your USB stick.

Normally, you can identify the line representing your USB stick via the Size field ofthe line. Otherwise, compare the output lists the list disks command provideswhen the USB stick is connected and when the USB stick disconnected.

Be sure to correctly identify the USB stick because all data will be removedfrom the selected device.

b. Enter select disk <no.> to change to your USB stick. For <no.>, enter thenumber displayed in the first field of your selected line.

c. Enter clean to remove all data and the partition structure from the USB stick.

Note that this will be deleted without further prompting.

d. Enter create partition primary to create one partition on the selecteddrive (USB stick).

e. Enter list partition to detect the partition number assigned by the createpartition primary command.

2.3 Creating the USB stick

Note that there must be only one single line in the output list of the listpartition command.

f. Enter select partition <no.> to define the partition as the currentpartition. <no.> is the number displayed in the output list of the list partitioncommand.

g. Enter detail partition to display all details of the new partition. The driveletter (e.g. "F") can be seen in the second output field.

h. Enter exit to exit the diskpart tool.

The new partition is in "raw" format, i.e. the partition does not yet have a filesystem set up. As the partition cannot be used in this state, it must be formattedinto a FAT32 file system as described below.

3. Enter the format command to format the new drive into a FAT32 file system:

In the following, for drive letters the usual notation (e.g. "F:") is mandatory.

format <drive letter> /FS:FAT32 /Q

Answer any questions asked by the program with [Enter].

2.3 Creating the USB stick

2.3.2.2 Writing the USB stick

After having prepared the USB stick as described above, you can run theCreateUSBStick.bat script to create the required data.

You need to know the drive letter the system uses to refer to the USB stick. You havealready got the drive letter in the preparation phase. This drive letter is still valid if theUSB stick has not been removed since then.

Proceed as follows:

1. Change to the Build-Tools directory, in the Update DVD Base directory.

2. Start the CreateUSBStick.bat script:

CreateUSBStick.bat <drive letter>

(e.g. CreateUSBStick.bat f:)

The execution of the script will take some time because the files are copied from theUSB-Stick-data to the USB stick. To keep you updated, the script outputs the followinginformation in the order listed below:

l Formatting information

l Names of the files being copied to the USB stick

In the case of large files it may take some time before the name of the nextfile is displayed.

3. Once the USB stick is ready to build the Firmware directory, you will be asked whetherthe Content Collector tool should be started now:

Figure 4: Starting the Content Collector

For details on using the Content Collector, see "ServerView Content Collector" on page18.

As of Content Collector V1.5, you can create a repository capable for running eLCM offlineupdates.

The following steps are required to perform an eLCM offline update:

1. Open Windows PowerShell (or Microsoft CMD) with administrator rights.

2. Start the Content Collector from the command line with the following command:

java -jar ContentCollector.jar -eLCM

The Start page of the Content Collector wizard opens, see "Content Collector wizard" onpage 25.

For more information about the eLCM see the

"ServerView embedded Lifecycle Management (eLCM)" user guide stored on the Fujitsumanual server.

3.2 Using the Content Collector

Testing a remote repository connection

As of Content Collector V1.60, you can check whether connection to the remote repositoryis possible.

The following steps are required to perform a connection check:

1. Generate the configuration file config.xml.

If this file does not exist, the connection check cannot be performed.

2. Start the Content Collector from the command line with the following command:

java -jar ContentCollector.jar -repository <desired_loction>-auto -canConnect

The desired_location must be an existing path.

The Content Collector starts in CLI mode and attempts to connect to the repository. Theresults are displayed in the console window. The Content Collector then closes.

Selecting a download source

As of Content Collector V1.70, you can specify the URL of the repository from whichfirmware will be downloaded.

To use a custom repository URL, start the Content Collector in GUI mode. In the Locationspage of the Content Collector wizard you can enter the desired repository URL, see"Content Collector wizard" on page 25.

Creating an HCL-conformant repository

As of Content Collector V1.70, you can create the local repository that conforms to thehardware compatibility list (HCL) located in the HCL file hclVMWareAll.xml under

support.ts.fujitsu.com/DownloadManager/GlobalFlash/hclVMWareAll.xml.

The list of components available to download is filtered, so only components added to theHCL file are eligible for downloading.

3.2 Using the Content Collector

There are two methods for creating the HCL-conformant repository:

o Creating an HCL-conformant repository using a GUI

The following steps are required to create an HCL-conformant repository:

1. Start the Content Collector via GUI.

2. In the Locations page of the Content Collector wizard you can activate the UseHCL-conformant repository checkbox to create the HCL-conformant repository, see"Content Collector wizard" on page 25.

3. In the Select components page you can select the components you want theContent Collector to download. The list of components displayed on the Selectcomponents page is limited to components that are only available in thehclVMWareAll.xml file.

Information as to whether you chose to create an HCL-conformant repository is savedto the configuration file config.xml. So, when the Content Collector is run again and auser repository containing this config.xml file is used, the checkbox is activated bydefault.

o Creating an HCL-conformant repository using the command line

Start the Content Collector from the command line with the following command:

java -jar ContentCollector.jar -hclConform

The Start page of the Content Collector wizard opens.

In the Locations page of the Content Collector wizard, the Use HCL-conformantrepository checkbox is automatically activated, see "Content Collector wizard" on page25.

The -hclConform option can be used with the -repository <desired_location> option, which provides the location of the local repository, and with the -eLCM option, whichcreates a repository for the eLCM offline update.

If you wish to use an HCL-conformant repository (including a repository for aneLCM offline update) in CLI mode, a configuration file config.xml must alreadyexist or be generated beforehand using the GUI.

Start the Content Collector from the command line with the following command:

java -jar ContentCollector.jar -repository <desired_loction> -auto -hclConform

The -hclConform option forces the Content Collector to create an HCL-conformant repository even if the HCL-conformant repository was marked as"false" in the configuration file config.xml used.
