Addressing the individual needs of a growing student population is a challenge to educators everywhere. The FuelEd Anywhere Learning System (ALS) can help educators meet that challenge with content for students in grades 1–12 aligned to all state standards and to Common Core State Standards.

ALS includes adaptive assessments that make it easy for teachers to create customized learning paths for struggling students who need remediation, as well as for advanced learners who need accelerated coursework. It can prescribe content across multiple grade levels to precisely target each student’s learning needs—whether they have signicant learning gaps or they’re looking to extend their knowledge to more accelerated content.

More Flexible Options for Students

Much of the ALS content has been redesigned for use on the iPad® to deliver untethered learning. With more than 90 language arts, math, science, social studies, and high school electives titles available on the iPad, ALS is well-suited for schools supporting a wide range of student devices or schools moving toward a Bring Your Own Device environment. This added exibility makes it easy for students to work on their individualized learning plan in the classroom, at the library, in learning labs, at home, or anywhere with Internet connectivity.

ALS runs on Windows® and Macintosh® desktop and laptop computers, Google Chromebook™ notebook computers, as well as on the iPad.

• Identify student skills mastery and deciencies according to the standards in your state.

• Use pre-tests to ensure assigned curriculum is targeted to students’ needs.

• Implement adaptive assessments to test skill levels and automatically prescribe individualized lesson plans.1

Instruct

No other prescriptive learning system can help you pinpoint student needs—and address them at the topic, skill, and national and state standard levels—as easily as ALS.

3• Choose from more than 160 titles containing upwards of 5,600 lessons.

• Implement a research-based direct instruction model.

• Teach curriculum correlated and aligned to all individual state standards and Common Core State Standards.

• Modify and/or create curriculum content and test questions with a curriculum authoring feature, available for

most titles/courses.

Report

4 • Use reports to drive instruction.

• Obtain student and class standard attainment reports.

• Acquire benchmark reports.

• I mplement ongoing assessments and post-testing to focus on rening and maintaining education plans.

Research-Based Direct Instruction ModelInstructivism, a general approach to education proven by extensive research, holds that carefully sequenced and direct instruction is most eective in helping students learn. ALS content is driven by the direct instruction approach to mastery with the following tools:

- Study Guides teach students the concepts and skills associated with each lesson.

- Practice Tests or Quizzes allow students to work through practice exercises while providing immediate feedback as well as access to the Study Guide.

- Mastery Tests determine whether students have learned the lesson material.

- Constructed Responses or Essays help students analyze, synthesize, and evaluate concepts from reviewed lesson content.

Best Practices in TeachingThirty years of experience and a strong research base give ALS the following capabilities:

- A Wealth of Options allow teachers to personalize instruction in the classroom.

- Individualized, Self-Paced Learning puts students at ease and maximizes their progress.

- Streamlined Instruction focuses on student learning gaps.

- Flexibility makes the program eective in traditional schools, charter schools, blended learning implementations, aer-school learning programs, juvenile facilities, adult literacy centers, prisons, and more.

Professional DevelopmentBecause implementation is critical to success, we oer several professional development programs, including basic and advanced product implementation courses. Additionally, ALS customers can access a series of online training classes composed of videos, overviews, and reviews specic to ALS educational courseware.

AssessmentsALS Assessments make it easy for teachers to create customized learning paths for struggling students who need remediation, as well as advanced learners who need accelerated coursework.

- Benchmark Assessments allow teachers to test before and aer a lesson to see how well students are grasping the information presented.

- Interim Assessments allow teachers to create quizzes based on learning objectives aligned to Common Core State Standards and other state standards.

- Adaptive Assessments can prescribe content based on assessment results across multiple grade levels to precisely target each student’s learning needs.

ALS helps educators meet the individual needs of students.

The Personal Finance high school elective content helps students prepare for real-world nancial situations.

Elementary-level science content engages young learners with meaningful subject matter and visually appealing graphics.

High school-level Comprehensive Biology content enriches students’ learning experiences with detailed drawings and illustrations.

The Quantile Framework® for Mathematics has been used to analyze more than 300 ALS lessons to ensure that students are accurately matched to instruction.

The Lexile Framework® for Reading has been used to analyze the majority of ALS Titles to ensure that students are accurately matched to instruction.

Note: The Lexile measures for grades one through three do not take into account the graphic and audio components and, therefore, may appear higher than expected.

“ Everyone has the opportunity to use ALS during the week—it’s part of learning. Kids are so versed in computers, and learning can happen anywhere. When they are home or anywhere there is computer access, they can log in to the school website and access ALS. It’s ingrained into our curriculum, and it’s just part of what we do. Kids understand that ALS helps to remediate or push them ahead, and they can do it at their own pace.”

Danielle Prohaska Director of Teaching and Learning

Mechanicsburg Exempted Village School District, Ohio

Since implementing ALS, Mechanicsburg Exempted Village School District steadily increased its District Performance Index. In 2011, the Ohio Department of Education awarded Mechanicsburg a rating of “Excellent with Distinction,” the state’s highest level. In addition, for the 2010–2011 school year, Mechanicsburg met its state Adequate Yearly Progress requirements.
