Audience Poll

4

How do you create test scripts to support your company’s upgrades or product implementations?

Who creates your test scripts?

What causes you to update your test scripts?

How are they updated?

What involvement does your Internal Audit or Quality Control organization have in approving test script formats?

Business Challenges

5

Why is developing test scripts perceived as such as “hassle”?

It’s time consuming

It’s a large manual effort

Individuals creating scripts may not have the same writing styles

Individuals creating scripts may not be the subject matter experts, leading to missed or incorrect steps that are not discovered until it’s too late

It’s tedious & boring

It’s not my area of interest nor is it in my job description

UPK Overview & Typical Usage

6

See It!

Mode enables the learner to view an animated demonstration of a task being completed.

Try It!

Mode enables the learner to perform selected tasks in a simulated environment.

Know It?

Mode tests the learner’s ability to perform the selected tasks in a simulated environment.

Do It!

Mode guides the learner through step-by-step tasks in the live Oracle environment.

Print It!

Mode allows the learner to print the Job Aid for the specific topic.

What’s Missing? 7

Where do we see UPK being used in the testing process? Formal test scripts is an additional UPK feature that most clients

do not leverage Clients typically stop at producing is training collateral (e.g., Job

Aids, Training Simulations and/or Training Manuals/User Guides)

Question: Why not bridge testing and training effort by creating the content once, yet package it differently for testing vs. training? Why do these efforts twice?

What’s Missing? 8

Let’s Rethink this…

Developing content to satisfy both testing and training needs allows you to smooth the transition of learners from a testing phase to a training phase. Learners will have had the opportunity to interact with the test scripts during formal testing, but then will see very similar content, but packaged in a “training” view during the training phase.

Benefits of Using UPK as a Testing Tool

Reduces test script development time by leveraging already recorded training content to produce test scripts

Improves test script accuracy by using the “automatic” recording feature in UPK, which drives efficiency by ensuring that steps are not missed or out of sequence

Satisfies Internal Audit and Quality Control requirements by developing a test script template that meets all of these groups’ collective requirements, including integrating the test scripts with testing products like HP QC10 or others

How Did We Do This? Part 1 : Defining the Print Template

13

Create client folder for all document output styles

Retain the original – do not modify it

Modify the copied Print Template – get input from QA, PM’s, etc. to design the types of test results you wish to be capture

How Did We Do This? Part 2a: UPK Author Input

14

Use the Frame Comments fields to map to the desired table columns

Add text as you develop content rather than going back to update afterwards

How Did We Do This? Part 2b: UPK Author Input

15

Develop the topic’s concept pane to include things to help with Internal Audit and Quality Control (test step pre-requisites, test instructions, test evidence)

Deployment Options

Publish content directly to MS Excel

Upload content to HQ Applications that are SCORM compliant (HP Quality Center, IBM Rational and other High Quality applications)

Client Intranet Site or other Central Repository (e.g., SharePoint)

Testers can access the test scripts themselves to print out or fill in on-line and then upload the results

Or…

What Did We Learn Today?

Rethink how you leverage UPK….Consider it for:

Test Script Development

Training Content Development

Make the learning process easier for end users by allowing the same content to be packaged for testing and training

Make the development creation and maintenance process easier for content authors as the content can be touched once, but with an eye for both test script development needs as well as training development needs
