Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time September 3, 2017
On Mission for the Church Alive! www.OnMissionChurch Alive.org
The Cost of Discipleship – In today’s Gospel Jesus reminds his disciples that in following him they are to become like him. While this will ultimately mean a share in his glory in heaven, Jesus reminds them that it will also require them to be prepared for the challenges when they must carry their crosses in life. Our call to discipleship is no different. As we follow Jesus our hearts are made more and more like his in love. That love, in turn, is to be shared with our brothers and sisters as we become the hands and the heart
of Jesus in the world. While we might be anxious about the changes that are going to happen in our parishes, we can be confident that our mission to love God above all and our neighbor as ourself will never change. As we answer the call to be disciples let us take up our crosses and follow Jesus with generous, loving and welcoming hearts. Visit onmission-churchalive.org to learn more it and to stay informed.
Financial Stewardship For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matt. 6:21
Second Collection The Bishop’s Education Fund (BEF) provides tuition assistance for Catholic schooling for Catholic families who qualify; yet this support covers less than half the demonstrated need, which continues to grow. Due to this pressing need, Bishop Zubik has di-rected that every dollar raised from this fall’s BEF Ap-peal be used for direct student aid. The BEF Appeal will be taken up on the weekend of September 9/10.
Second Collection Bishop Zubik has asked that a special emergency collec-tion be taken up to assist the victims of Hurricane Harvey on the weekend
of September 16-17. Proceeds will be used to support the efforts of Catholic Charities USA, as they and their member agencies respond to immediate needs for such necessities as shelter, clean water, food, and medical care, as well as, to the long term need to rebuild and recover.
Free Movie Thursday-"The Shack"! The Hospitality committee is hosting a free viewing of the movie "The Shack" on Thursday, September 21st at 7pm in O'Connell Hall. This uplifting movie (based on the 2007 NY times best selling
novel) is about a man who spirals into a deep depres-sion after suffering a family tragedy and experiences a crisis of faith. After receiving a mysterious personal invitation from God, he agrees to meet him at an aban-doned shack in the deep Oregon woods. This uplifting movie stars Octavia Spenser, Tim McGraw, and Sam Worthington. Free popcorn, free candy, free drinks, and free fellowship! Call Rochelle Barness for more details (724)561-7124. Hope to see you there!

We all feel discouraged from time to time. Some days, we might run full speed ahead and tackle life with no problem, but other times, we might feel like throwing in the towel. Life contains ups and downs for a reason — so that we may appreciate the good times and learn from the hard ones. May I never forget on my best day, that I still need God as desperately as I did on my worst day.
Please Note: To be added to this list, a family member is asked to please contact the Parish Office at 724-775-6363 or email [email protected]. First Friday Commu-nicants will remain on the list indefinitely; all others will remain for one month unless

Two of the most overlooked qualities in life are patience and wisdom:
When the new patient was settled comfortably on the couch, the psychiatrist began his therapy session. "I'm not aware of your problem," the doctor said. "So perhaps, you should start at the very beginning." "Of course," replied the patient. "In the beginning, I created the Heavens and the Earth..."

A farmer purchased an old, run-down, abandoned farm with plans to turn it into a thriving enterprise. The fields were grown over with weeds, the farmhouse was falling apart, and the fences were collapsing all around. During his first day of work, the town preacher stopped by to bless the man's work, saying, "May you and God work together to make this the farm of your dreams!" A few months later, the preacher stopped by again to call on the farmer. Lo and behold, it was like a completely different place -- the farm house was completely rebuilt and in ex-cellent condition, there were plenty of cattle and other livestock happily munching on feed in well-fenced pens, and the fields were filled with crops planted in neat rows. "Amazing!" the preacher says. "Look what God and you have accomplished together!" "Yes, Reverend," says the farmer, "but remember what the farm was like when God was working it alone!"
