ABSTRACT
Driven by economic, technical, and environmental reasons, the energy sector
is moving into an era where electrical demand will be met through widespread
instal lation of distributed resources or whats known as Distribution Generation
Systems (DGS). The project deals with a DGS with fixed-speed induction-generator-
based wind turbines (FSWT). These are sensitive and vulnerable to voltage
disturbances and reactive power deficiency. Consequently, the control and protection
strategies for such a DGS should be prompt and precise to avoid undesired wind
generator cutting off. This study investigates and analyses the dynamic
characteristics of an FSWT to reveal the behaviors of an FSWT under disturbances.
Then a fast control strategy for stabilizing an islanded DGS is proposed.
The main contributions of the control strategy are: the total amount of reactive
power compensation and load shedding may be determined precisely; all the
operation execution points may be decided accurately to improve DGS stability.
Furthermore, the implementation of the fast control strategy is also discussed. A case
study is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The initiation and the rudimentary concept of project are ascribable to my
guide Dr. P.SOMASUNDARAM , Associate Professor, Power Systems
Engineering Division, without whose invaluable guidelines, patient and constant
encouragement nothing would have been materialized. I owe my gratitude to him.
I thank Dr. S.USA , Head of the Department, Electrical and Electronics
Engineering for her kind support and amenities provided complete my work in time.
I thank to Dr. R.P. Kumidini Devi , Associate Professor, Power systems
Engineering Division for her encouragement throughout this work.
My sincere thanks to Mr. V.THIYAGU RAJA, research Scholar, for his
constructive discussions throughout the duration of my project work.
I am obliged to the faculty, research scholars and office staff of Power
systems Engineering Division for their encouragement and support round the clock.
With great pleasure, I express a large measure of my gratitude to my parents, sister
and friends for their moral prop up and encouragement.
