Thank you for the great response to payment of the fund-raising levy introduced this year to help share Club fund-raising amongst all members.

The funds have already contributed to payment of nomination fees for last month’s State Short Course Club Relay Championships and also

the purchase of a laminator (for the display of club notices, etc).

Just a reminder to those members choosing to pay by instalments—the second instalment is due by the 30 June (either $25 for option 1 / $62.50 for option 2).

Thank you again – your support is much appreciated.

It’s been a sudden and sad trip back to their birth place for the Ascaris. On the bright side, the local swimming club, Modena Nuoto, has been extremely kind and welcomed Alice to join their main squad for training over the two weeks of their stay in Italy. It’s been an amazing and challenging experience for Alice, since the majority of their swimmers are aged 18 and over. (Remember what Scott said about interstate swimmers? “Big, hairy…”).

Coach Stefano Nurra, president Mauro Zanni and VP Fabrizio Fogliani have been wonderful examples of Italian hospitality, and invited Alice to take part in the yearly competition that the club has been organising over the past 38 years, the “Trofeo Citta’ di Modena”, an international event that in recent years has seen the participation of the likes of Federica Pellegrini and other members of the Italian Olympic team. Alice competed in the 100 Free (5th place among 1998-born females), 200 Free (4th), 400 Free (2nd) and 200 Medley (2nd).

Surprisingly, Alice and the Fleurieu Swimming Club were also prominently mentioned by the Italian press, which pictured her together with proud president Zanni. So here you go: next time you happen to travel to Italy, just mention Fleurieu and everyone will know who you are…!

Thank You Jakob!

On Sunday 15 May 2011, the first 11 and under JX Meet 1 of the Winter Season was held at the new SAALC. Registered to compete at this event were Ainsleigh J, Kathryn S and Bethan M. Upon arrival at the pool the Fluerieu Swimming Club Male Vice Captain Jakob Schleyer set up camp on pool deck! He went through the stretch warm up with the girls, then led the pre-race pool warm up and ensured that all three swimmers knew what they were swimming, what to do and where to go......our young swimmers were in very safe hands!!!

Well done to Ainsleigh, Kathryn and Bethan for some great swims on the day and a very BIG thank you to Jakob Schleyer whose enthusiasm and leadership on the day was a credit to our Club and a great example to other Clubs........Thank you!

Janine Malloy has kindly offered to come and give our club members training in “Inspector of Turns” and “Judge of Stroke”. We ask as many of you as pos-sible to attend this training so that we can share the officiating duties over the coming months. Captains Corner

Hey swimmers :)

Welcome to the winter season, even though we are a couple of months in already!

We, the new Captains for 2011/2012, would like to introduce ourselves a bit:

The new Male Captain for 11/12 is Adrian Waydock: “I have been swimming for as long as i can remember but I have been a part of the club for 7 years so far. I am a butterflier and just love putting myself through pain at swimming :) I am at most sessions and if you have any queries just come and ask, I’m sure either Steph or I will be able to help. I can’t wait to see you all sometime soon :)”.

Your Female Captain is Steph Fox: “I’ve been swimming for as a long as I remember as well and been a part of the club for 5 or 6 years now. I love backstroke but don’t mind a bit of breaststroke either. I, like Adrian am around most of the time so feel free to come up and talk to me whenever you need :).”

Your two Vice Captains are Jacob Schleyer and Regan Burns. You can find out some more about them in their profiles. As a group, we all look forward to working together to help make this Club better.

To some stuff coming up; we have Short Course States coming nearer and nearer so make sure you’re prepared for that and we look forward to seeing everyone compete. Also, the National Short Course Championships are on in Adelaide soon and if you can get a ticket to go down and see the finals or heats that would be a great experience. The Captains letterbox is now also up and running (the blue and yellow one next to the big silver one) and so if you have any feedback or anything really for us you can chuck it in there.

We hope you have a good last few weeks at school and to the older swimmers who are doing exams now and over the next few weeks good luck also!

Adrian and Steph :)
