Guiding Principles in Determining and Formulating Learning Objectives

Teacher Behavior/s which Prove/s Observance of the Guiding Principle

1. Begin with the end in mind.1. The Resource Teacher began her lesson by clear definite objective.

2. Share lesson objective with students.

2. The Resource Teacher let the students to discover the instructional objectives of their discussion.

3. Lesson objectives must be in the 2 or 3 domains – cognitive, skill and affective or cognitive and affective or skill and affective.

3. The teacher let the students to describe how water cycle goes and state and explain its three processes. She also gave the opportunity for the learners to actively participate in the group activities provided.

4. Work on significant and relevant lesson objectives.

4. The teacher provided learning objectives which are essential for the students’ behavioral progress and should be coping within the period of time.

5. Lesson objectives must be lead to the development of critical and creative thinking.

5. The lesson objectives provided by the teachers directed the students’ thinking into rational one. Their own way of describing and explaining was also been trained into a more artistic way.

1. After observing your Resource Teacher teach, write down what you think was / were her lesson objective.

At the end of sixty minute period, the students will be able to:a. Describe the three processes of water cycle.b. State and explain the three processes of water cycle.c. Actively participate the group activity

2. Ask permission from your Resource Teacher for you to copy her lesson objective for the day’s lesson. Copy it here then compare it with your answer in # 2. Are they the same? Different?

The learning objectives are similar because right after her teaching, we made a forum in which we discussed how her teaching was done. Her learning objectives was also been questioned to us.

1. If answer in # 3 above is different, what is your conclusion regarding written lesson objective and actual lesson development? Are lesson objectives in the lesson plan always followed? Do they really serve as guiding star?

Yes, learning objectives serve as a guide for the teachers on how he/ she will direct learning to the students. It is said to be the objectives because it is the target goal of the teachers for that day. An effective teacher should follow the stated learning objectives at his/her lesson plan.

2. Why did you find it easy/difficult to write down the Resource Teacher’s lesson objective for the day? Did she mention it at the beginning of her/his lesson?

Yes, she mentioned the day before our observation that she will ask us on what was her learning objectives for that day. And I find it quite easy to write the objectives because she used appropriate method and materials needed to be able to utilized her goals and objectives for that lesson.

3. Did you find the lesson objective SMART? Why or Why not?

Yes, her learning objectives were classified as SMART in such a way that it can be consumed in specific time-allotment. Aside from that, it can also be measured and attained in a way that students could describe and explain the three processes of water cycle and how it goes.

4. Was the lesson objective in the cognitive or psychomotor or affective domain? Or was it in the two or three domains? Support your answer.

The lesson objectives used by Mrs. Dizon was in the three domains of learning. When the students being able to describe how water cycle goes, they used their cognitive skills. Then, they utilized their psychomotor skills while they are stating and explaining the three processes of the cycle. However, it was classified under affective domain when they had the feeling of active participation in every group activities provided.

star in the development of a lesson? Or are lesson objectives sometimes forgotten as the lesson develops?

Lesson objectives are set of goals that the students must cope within the period of time. Based on my observation, Mrs. Dizon directed the learning to the students through the use of her objectives. Her goals are in the three-domains of learning which made the student more knowledgeable and equipped with the topic. The knowledge, skills and attitudes are all developed in the set aims and objectives.

Learning objectives truly be considered as guiding star in development of the lesson. It is said to be the expected learning outcomes of the students. Knowledge and learning can be controlled effectively and efficiently through complying with the objectives provide for that day. Additionally, the set goals will make the demonstration of lesson be well-directed and concentrated on the established aims and targets. Those objectives will tied up on the success or failure of gaining learning in every presentation of lesson. And it could be assess through the performance of the students during the evaluation part of the lesson.

“You can Never Give Up and Never Quit because if you really think about it, there are a multitude of other people who are relying on you to excel and succeed in achieving your goals and objectives.”

-Unknown quotes   http://www.searchquotes.com/search/Significance_Of_Goals_And_Objectives_In_Teaching/

Teachers play an important role in molding young minds of every individual. They serve as model and students sometimes imitate and idolize them. So teachers should always influence them with positivity and values. Like how learners won’t give up on their survival in life, the teachers should not also surrender in directing the learning of the students using their lesson objectives being established. Sometimes, everything was out of controlled, yet how teachers deal with those struggling times will be the determinant of the success of their profession, which is not merely to teach only, but to mold, lead and inspire young minds which one day could be more successful than them.
