Warning! Any electrical component(power cord, plug, compressor) must

be replaced by the After Sales Serviceagent or qualified service personnel.

1. Power cord must not be lengthened.2. Make sure that the power plug is not

squashed or damaged by the backof the appliance. A squashed ordamaged power plug may overheatand cause a fire.

Daily Use• Do not put hot pot on the plastic parts in

Care and cleaning• Before maintenance, switch off the appli-

ance and disconnect the mains plug fromthe mains socket.

• Do not clean the appliance with metalobjects.

• Do not use sharp objects to remove frostfrom the appliance. Use a plastic scraper.

InstallationImportant! For electrical connectioncarefully follow the instructions given in thespecific paragraph.• Unpack the appliance and check if there

are damages on it. Do not connect theappliance if it is damaged. Report possi-ble damages immediately to the AfterSales Service (refer to "Service"). In thatcase retain packing.

• It is advisable to wait at least four hoursbefore connecting the appliance to allowthe oil to flow back in the compressor.

• Adequate air circulation should bearound the appliance, lacking this leadsto overheating. To achieve sufficient ven-tilation follow the instructions relevant toinstallation.

• Wherever possible the back of the prod-uct should be against a wall to avoidtouching or catching warm parts (com-pressor, condenser) to prevent possibleburn.

• The appliance must not be located closeto radiators or cookers.

• Make sure that the mains plug is accessi-ble after the installation of the appliance.

Service• Any electrical work required to do the

servicing of the appliance should be car-ried out by a qualified electrician or com-petent person.

• This product must be serviced by the Af-ter Sales Service, and only genuine spareparts must be used. The service numbersare listed in the Service information.

Environment ProtectionThis appliance does not contain gasseswhich could damage the ozone layer, in ei-ther its refrigerant circuit or insulation mate-rials. The appliance shall not be discardedtogether with the urban refuse and rubbish.The insulation foam contains flammablegases: the appliance shall be disposed ac-cording to the applicable regulations to ob-tain from your local authorities. Switching on1. Insert the plug into the wall socket.2. Turn the Temperature regulator clock-

Switching off1. To turn off the appliance, turn the Tem-

2. The pilot light will switch off.Temperature regulationThe temperature within the appliance iscontrolled by the Temperature regulator sit-uated at the bottom of the cabinet.

To operate the appliance, proceed as fol-lows:• turn the Temperature regulator toward

lower settings to obtain the minimumcoldness.

• turn the Temperature regulator towardhigher settings to obtain the maximumcoldness.

A medium setting is generally the mostsuitable.

However, the exact setting should be chos-en keeping in mind that the temperature in-side the appliance depends on:• room temperature• how often the door is opened• the quantity of food stored• the location of the appliance.Fast Freeze functionYou can activate the Fast Freeze functionby pressing the Fast Freeze switch.The Fast Freeze light will light up.It is possible to deactivate the function atany time by pressing Fast Freeze switch.The Fast Freeze light will switch off.Excessive temperature alarmIf the temperature inside the freezer has ris-en to a point where the safe storage of fro-zen food is no longer ensured (for exampledue to an power failure) the Alarm light willblink and an acoustic alarm will sound.1. Switch off the warning tone by pressing

the Fast Freeze switch.The Fast Freeze light illuminates.The Alarm light blinks until the requiredtemperature has been reached again.

2. The Fast Freeze switch can be releasedas soon as the Alarm light is off.The Fast Freeze light goes out.

When the freezer is first switched on,the Alarm light blinks until the temper-

ature has dropped to a safe level for thestorage of frozen food.

First useCleaning the interiorBefore using the appliance for the first time,wash the interior and all internal accesso-ries with lukewarm water and some neutralsoap so as to remove the typical smell of abrand-new product, then dry thoroughly.

Important! Do not use detergents or abra-sive powders, as these will damage the fin-ish.

Freezing fresh foodThe freezer compartment is suitable forfreezing fresh food and storing frozen anddeep-frozen food for a long time.

To freeze fresh food activate the FastFreeze function at least 24 hours beforeplacing the food to be frozen in the freezercompartment.Place the fresh food to be frozen in the twotop compartments.The maximum amount of food that can befrozen in 24 hours is specified on the ratingplate, a label located on the inside of theappliance.The freezing process lasts 24 hours: duringthis period do not add other food to be fro-zen.After 24 hours, when the freezing process iscompleted, return to the required tempera-ture (see "Temperature regulation").Freezing Calendar

The numbers indicate storage times inmonths for the appropriate types of frozengoods. Whether the upper or lower value ofthe indicated storage time is valid dependson the quality of the foods and treating be-fore freezing.Storage of frozen foodWhen first starting-up or after a period outof use, before putting the products in thecompartment let the appliance run at least2 hours on the higher settings.Important! In the event of accidentaldefrosting, for example due to a powerfailure, if the power has been off for longerthan the value shown in the technicalcharacteristics chart under "rising time", thedefrosted food must be consumed quickly orcooked immediately and then re-frozen(after cooling).ThawingDeep-frozen or frozen food, prior to beingused, can be thawed in the refrigeratorcompartment or at room temperature, de-pending on the time available for this oper-ation.

Small pieces may even be cooked still fro-zen, directly from the freezer: in this case,cooking will take longer.Cold accumulatorsA cold accumulator is supplied in the freez-er; this increase the length of time for whichfood will keep in the event of a power fail-ure or breakdown.Ice-cube productionThis appliance is equipped with one tray forthe production of ice-cubes.1. Fill the tray with water.2. Put the tray in the freezer compartmentImportant! Do not use metallic instrumentsto remove the tray from the freezer.

Helpful hints and tipsHints for energy saving• Do not open the door frequently or leave

it open longer than absolutely necessary.• Do not set temperature any colder than

necessary.• Ensure sufficient air circulation and ex-

haust at the appliance base and at theback wall of the appliance. Never coverair vent openings.

• Do not place warm foods into the appli-ance. Allow warm foods to cool first.

Hints for freezingTo help you make the most of the freezingprocess, here are some hints:• The maximum quantity of food which can

be frozen in 24 hours is shown on the rat-ing plate.

• The freezing process takes 24 hours. Nofurther food to be frozen should be add-ed during this period.

• Freeze only top quality, fresh and thor-oughly cleaned foodstuffs.

• Prepare food in small portions to enableit to be rapidly and completely frozenand to make it possible subsequently tothaw only the quantity required.

• Wrap up the food in aluminium foil orpolythene and make sure that the pack-ages are airtight.

• Do not allow fresh, unfrozen food totouch food which is already frozen, thusavoiding a rise in temperature of the lat-ter.

• Lean foods store better and longer thanfatty ones; salt reduces the storage life offood.

• Water ices, if consumed immediately af-ter removal from the freezer compart-ment, can possibly cause the skin to befreeze burnt.

• It is advisable to show the freezing indate on each individual pack to enableyou to keep tab of the storage time.

Hints for storage of frozen foodTo obtain the best performance from thisappliance, you should:• Make sure that the commercially frozen

foodstuffs were adequately stored by theretailer.

• Make sure that frozen foodstuffs aretransferred from the foodstore to thefreezer in the shortest possible time.

• Do not open the door frequently or leaveit open longer than absolutely necessary.

• Once defrosted, food deteriorates rapid-ly and cannot be refrozen.

• Do not exceed the storage period indica-ted by the food manufacturer.

Care and cleaningCaution! Before carrying out anymaintenance operation, disconnect the

power supply.This appliance contains hydrocarbons in itscooling unit; maintenance and rechargingmust therefore only be carried out by au-thorized technicians.

Warning! The accessories and parts ofthe appliance are not suitable for

washing in a dishwasher.Periodic cleaningThe equipment has to be cleaned regularly:• clean the inside and accessories with

lukewarm water and some neutral soap.• regularly check the door seals and wipe

clean to ensure they are clean and freefrom debris.

• rinse and dry thoroughly.Important! Do not pull, move or damageany pipes and/or cables inside the cabinet.Never use detergents, abrasive powders,highly perfumed cleaning products or waxpolishes to clean the interior as this willdamage the surface and leave a strongodour.Once a year remove the ventilation grill atthe base of the appliance and clean the airchannels with a vacuum cleaner. This oper-ation will improve the performance of theappliance and save electricity consumption.

Important! Take care of not to damage thecooling system.Many proprietary kitchen surface cleanerscontain chemicals that can attack/damagethe plastics used in this appliance. For thisreason it is recommended that the outercasing of this appliance is only cleaned withwarm water with a little washing-up liquidadded.After cleaning, reconnect the equipment tothe mains supply.Defrosting the freezer

A certain amount of frost will alwaysform on the freezer shelves and

around the top compartment.Important! Defrost the freezer when thefrost layer reaches a thickness of about 3-5mm.To remove the frost, do these steps:1. Switch off the appliance.2. Remove any stored food, wrap it in sev-

eral layers of newspaper and put it in acool place.

3. Leave the door open.4. Remove the three large drawers.5. Defrosting can be accelerated by plac-

ing bowls with hot water (not boiling)inside the freezer.

6. When defrosting is completed, removethe water that has collected in the smallbottom drawer and dry the interiorthoroughly.

7. Switch on the appliance.8. Turn the thermostat control to a medi-

um setting and run the appliance for atleast two hours in the "Fast Freeze"mode.

9. Reload the previously removed food in-to the compartment.Warning! Never use sharp metal toolsto scrape off frost from the evaporator

as you could damage it. Do not use amechanical device or any artificial means tospeed up the thawing process other thanthose recommended by the manufacturer. Atemperature rise of the frozen food packs,during defrosting, may shorten their safestorage life.Cleaning the air channels

1. Remove the plinth (1), then the ventila-tion grid (2);

As the colours of the wires in the mains leadof this appliance may not correspond withthe coloured markings identifying the termi-nals in your plug, proceed as follows:1. Connect the wire coloured green and

yellow to the terminal marked eitherwith the letter “E“ or by the earth sym-bol or coloured green and yellow.

Ifservice work is carried out under guarantee,this will not extend the guarantee period forthe appliance,Which appliances are not covered by theIKEA five (5) years guarantee?The range of appliances named LAGANand all appliances purchased in IKEA be-fore 1st of August 2007Who will execute the service?IKEA service provider will provide the serv-ice through its own service operations orauthorized service partner network.What does this guarantee cover?The guarantee covers faults of the appli-ance, which have been caused by faultyconstruction or material faults from the dateof purchase from IKEA. This guarantee ap-plies to domestic use only. The exceptionsare specified under the headline “What isnot covered under this guarantee?” Withinthe guarantee period, the costs to remedythe fault e.g. repairs, parts, labour and trav-el will be covered, provided that the appli-ance is accessible for repair without specialexpenditure. On these conditions the EUguidelines (Nr. 99/44/EG) and the respec-tive local regulations are applicable. • Consumable parts including batteriesand lamps.

• Non-functional and decorative partswhich do not affect normal use of the ap-pliance, including any scratches and pos-sible color differences.

• Accidental damage caused by foreignobjects or substances and cleaning or un-blocking of filters, drainage systems orsoap drawers.

• Damage to the following parts: ceramicglass, accessories, crockery and cutlerybaskets, feed and drainage pipes, seals,lamps and lamp covers, screens, knobs,casings and parts of casings. Unless suchdamages can be proved to have beencaused by production faults.

• Cases where no fault could be found dur-ing a technician’s visit.

• Repairs not carried out by our appointedservice providers and/or an authorizedservice contractual partner or where non-original parts have been used.

• Repairs caused by installation which isfaulty or not according to specification.

• The use of the appliance in a non-domes-tic environment i.e. professional use.
