Page 1: Front cover evaluation

My target audience is the students and teachers within the school. I have used different components such as images; colour and font to create an eye catching and unique front cover to the magazine. Furthermore these components helped me to create a magazine cover that will be suitable for my target audience.

The main colour I have used is red as it is one of the main colours that are used in the school. In addition red is also a very noticeable colour so it will grab more attention of the reader of the magazine. I have also used white for the writing as it does stand out very well which again grabs attention. The colours are suitable for my audience as the colours used don’t have a certain gender that it is associated towards, which means anyone can read the magazine. Furthermore, after doing my survey I have found out that many people prefer the colour scheme Red, Blue and White so I have decided to use two of these colours which are Red and White. Also these colours go very well together and are also the colour scheme the school use.

I have taken pictures of around the school to make the theme of the magazine flow with each other and also to create an intriguing front cover to the magazine so that I prevent the use of plain colour and just writing which would of given of a boring vibe making the reader think that the rest of the magazine will not be interesting.

However I could have made the magazine pictures more original by using different lighting and camera angels which could have showed a different perspective of the school to the reader.

The layout is very organised and formal. Furthermore it’s not too crowded making it easier for the reader to see what the certain sections of the magazine are showing. Also the layout emphasises certain sections more to make these sections more noticeable to the reader such as the master head and the schools website.

I have used a formal font which was Arial Black and the effect this font has is it gives a more serious side to the magazine and what this reflects to the reader is the information within the magazine is genuine and not made up. This means that the audience which are the students and teachers can rely on the information given and know that what they are presented with is not false.

The majority of people from the survey preferred the font Calibri however I wanted to use the font Arial Black because the font looked more bold and eye catching compared to Calibri, this font also still has the same formal appearance that Calibri present the reader with.

I asked many people what colour font they wanted and the majority responded with the colour white which I used as it stands out from the background and makes the cover more eye-catching.
