Ranga Agricultural University is striving untiringly to serve the farming community with the goal of “Reach the Unreached”. Presently, the ANGRAU, with its headquarters at Lam, Guntur, is carrying out teaching, research and extension activities in the faculties of Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering & Technology and Communityscience. The teaching mandate of ANGRAU is carried out through a network of five agricultural colleges, one advanced postgraduate centre, 19 polytechnics, two colleges each of Agril. Engineering & Technology and Food Science & Technology, and one college of Homescience. In addition to these colleges, six private Agricultural Colleges and 78 private Polytechnics are affiliated to the University. During December 2019, Open and Distance Learning Centre, Guntur organized new certificate course on Mushroom Cultivation. Apart from agricultural education, ANGRAU is contributing a lot to agricultural research and extension with 33 Agricultural Research Stations, 13 each of DAATTCs and KVKs located in six agro-climatic zones of Andhra Pradesh state. On the research front, strategic crop production and management through systems approach, genetic enhancement of agricultural crops and frontiers in soil and plant health management are the thrust areas. Satellite based Rice Monitoring System for Andhra Pradesh Project (SRMS for AP), a collaborative project of Govt. of A.P., International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippines and ANGRAU is progressing forward and a review meeting was organized with all stakeholders in this quarter. Directorate of Extension is focusing on institutional interventions through KVKs and DAATTCs for agricultural and rural development.In this quarter, Kisan Melas are organized by few research stations of ANGRAU and Agricultural College, Bapatla and 49th REAC meeting was held. The year 2020 is proclaimed as “International year of Plant Health” and the IYPH Poster of United Nationis already released by the Agricultural College, Bapatla to create awareness among the general public. New Board of Management for ANGRAU is formed during December, 2019. Mahila Kisan Diwas, World Food Day and Soil Health Day Celebrations were organized with enthusiasm by ANGRAU centres. Extension) participated in the workshop.Dr.P.Rambabu stated that ANGRAU has an agreementwith SERP-APRIGP and accordingly trainingprogrammes and 150 field demonstrations wereorganized on critical interventions in different crops wereorganized by the scientists of ARSs, Agricultural Colleges,KVKs and DAATTCs during 2018-19. Three days training programme on “Farm Machineryand Food Processing Technologies”was conducted to 24Subject Matter Specialists (Crop Production/Agril. Engg.)of KVK’s and Scientists of DAATT Centres fromANGRAU; YSR Horticultural University; SriVenkateswaraVeterinary University and NGO KVK’sduring 6th-8th November, 2019 at RARS, Tirupati.Dr.P.Rajasekhar, ADR, RARS, Tirupati inaugurated theprogramme on 6th November, 2019 and highlighted theimportance of the farm mechanization in increasing the cropproduction and reducing the labour cost. He said that thetrainees should keenly observe the operations of variousfarm implements and machineries, which will help them totroubleshoot operational difficulties in their regular worksat KVKs. ANGRAU is governed by a 21 members Board of Management with the Vice-Chancellor as the Chairman. Govt.of A.P. announced new Board of Management for ANGRAU on December 2nd, 2019 consisting of 21 members includingIAS Officers, Distinguished Agricultural Scientists, Member of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assembly, Agri-Entrepreneurs and Progressive Agriculturists. This apex body will be responsible for taking policy decisions.

Innovative Farmers Network Coordinators Review MeetingTwo-day Innovative Farmers Network (IFN)

November to 5th November, 2019 at RegionalAgricultural Research Station, Maruteru and ARS,Vijayarai. Dr. P. Rambabu, Director of Extension,ANGRAU graced the occasion as Chief Guest on 4th

November, 2019. Dr. B. Vijayabhinandana, PrincipalScientist (Agril. Extension) & University Head explainedthe importance of Innovative Farmers Networkprogramme and the major activities of the coordinatorsand the proposed action plan o f the IFN programme forthe year 2020-21. Dr. P. V. Satyanarayana, ADR, RARS,Maruteru explained RARS activities and how the IFNcan help in varietal and technology dissemination in ricecrop. Dr. P. Rambabu addressed the gathering and statedthat the IFN programme is one of the prestigious extensionprogrammes of the University and all the IFNcoordinators has to work hard and reach their targetswith utmost attention. Dr. P. Rambabu also emphasizedthat the new technologies or varieties generated from theUniversity can be disseminated among the IF networkand also to the other farmers through IF network. TheIFN Coordinators of each district presented the workdone report for the year 2019-20 and also proposedactivities for 2020-21. First day meeting was ended withfield visit to different research activities of RARS,Maruteru.

Training programme to master trainers of APRIGP(ANGRAU-SERP partnership) on Ragi, Rajma andNizer improved production technologies was conductedfor four days from 25.11.2019 to 28.11.2019 at RARS,Anakapalle by KrishiVigyan Kendra, Kondempudi. Theselected master trainers (40) are FPO farmers from fourtribalmandalsi.e.Pedabayalu, Munchingiputtu,Hukumpeta and G.Madugula of Visakhapatnam district.Resource persons from ARS, Vizianagaram and RARS,Chintapalle trained the farmers on varieties, soil type,production practices, processing and value addition tothe master trainers during these four days trainingprogramme. Method demonstrations on soil sampling,seed treatment with rhizobium, seed treatment withinsecticides/fungicides and Cuscuta weed managementpractices in Nizer were conducted during the trainingprogramme. Sensitisation Workshop on NAHEP Component 2activities & implementation of Academics ManagementSystem (AMS) was organised on 11th and 12th December2019 at Guntur. Dr. S.R. Koteswara Rao, Dean ofAgriculture (FAC) & Dean of Student Affairs presided theworkshop. Dr. R.C. Goyal, IT Consultant, ICAR- IASRI,New Delhi was the Chief Guest. Dr. D. Bhaskara Rao,Registrar was present. Dr. T. Srinivas, Professor (Academic)& Nodal Officer of AMS briefed the purpose of organisingthe sensitisation workshop.

Dr. S.R. Koteswara Rao said that the implementationof AMS will help to reduce paper work, reduce burden onteachers and bring excellence in academic management, headded. Dr. K. Balaguravaiah, Dean P.G. studies requestedthe faculty to carefully study the module and give goodsuggestions to incorporate all the requirements ofANGRAU. Dr. K. Yella Reddy, Dean, Agril. Crop Diagnostic booklets of pocket size in rice, cotton, pulses,groundnut and sugarcane crops of the A.P. state are published in telugu languageto serve as a ready reckoner for crop protection related aspects in agriculture.The five booklets were released during 49th REAC meeting at Lam, Guntur on18.12.2019 by the auspicious hands of Sri V. Balashowry, Member ofParliament, Machilipatnam and Member, Board of Management,ANGRAU.High resolution colour pictures of various pest and diseases of therespective crops for easy diagnosis of the pest, disease and nutritional disorderby the farmers, with suitable remedial measures is inserted in the booklets.

Mushroom Certificate Course Inaugurated

MahilaKisanDiwas CelebrationsAgricultural College, Bapatla celebrated the ”Mahila KisanDiwas” on October 15th, 2019 at adopted villageNallamothuvaripalem involving rural women and iscoordinated by Dept. of Extension Education students andfaculty. The Chief Guest, Dr. S.R. Koteswara Rao, Deanof Student Affairs & Dean of Agriculture (FAC) emphasizedon the multi-dimensional roles played by the women inagriculture. Dr. Koteswara Rao stated that the women’scontribution to the agriculture and dairy farming is greaterthan men. He stressed the need for capacity building ofrural women and enhancing their access to the inputs, moderntechnologies and other agricultural resources. Dr. P.V.Krishnayya, Associate Dean, Agricultural College, Bapatla,briefed about the ANGRAU’s various research and

extension activities for empowering the farm women inagriculture sector. Further, quiz and games were conductedand prizes were distributed to the winners. Kitchen GardenKits were also distributed. A total of 75 farm women fromthe village participated in the celebrations.

ODLC, Guntur inaugurated the three monthscertificate course on Mushroom Cultivation at four studycentres–KVK, Nellore; KVK, Reddipalle; KVK,Amadalavalasa and ODLC, Guntur. A total of 83 membersfrom different districts of Andhra Pradesh enrolled for thiscourse. The course syllabus was published as a book andreleased by the Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor during the

academic council meet held on 17.12.2019 at APGCSeminar Hall. The first phase contact classes were heldat the four study centres on 23.12.2019 and the enrolledparticipants were exposed to theoretical as well aspractical sessions on mushroom production. Dr. R. World Food Day Celebrations

KrishiVigyan Kendras- Reddipalli andGhantasala celebrated World Food Day, 2019 at KVKcampuses and also in selected villages on 16th October,2019. Anganwadi workers, women farmers and studentsparticipated in the programme. Dr. P. Rambabu, Directorof Extension, ANGRAU while addressing the gatheringat KVK, Reddipalli explained the significance ofconducting world food day, and how it helps in increasingawareness about food security for every one and achievingSustainable Development Goal of Zero Hunger by 2030.Dr. R.Veeraraghavaiah, PS& Head, ARS, Anantapuramuand Dr.K. food exhibition covering all the food groups and theirimportance in balanced diet.

Dr. L. Umadevi, Dean of Home Scienceparticipated in the celebrations at Anganwadi Centre,Ghantasala and addressed the gathering on“Supplementary diets to combat malnutrition”. Further,awareness training programme was conducted atSrikakulam village by KVK, Ghantasala andDr.Umadevi spoke on “Importance of balanced diet inthe pregnancy and lactating stage of women” to 30 ICDSpersonnel. Also, Kitchen garden kits to women weredistributed. Dr. K. Jhansi, Programme Coordinator,KVK, Ghantasala participated in the event.

ANGRAU institutes across the A.P. state observedVigilance Awareness Week - 2019 from 28th October - 2nd

November 2019, as per the decision and directives of CentralVigilance Commission. The main focus of vigilance Awarenessweek is “Integrity - A way of Life”. All the KVKs and DAATTCscommenced the vigilance awareness week on October 28th, 2019by taking the Integrity Pledge with the active participation of KVKsand DAATTCs staff, agricultural polytechnic students in KVKcampuses and farmers. Dr. B. Vijayabhinandana, PS & UniversityHead (Agril. Extension) administered the Pledge ceremony heldat KVK, Reddipalli on 29th October, 2019. During the vigilanceawareness week from October 28th to November 2nd, KVKsand DAATTCs implemented various activities such as distributionof pamphlets/handouts on preventive vigilance activities,conducting workshops and sensitization programmes for students,staff and farmers on preventive vigilance measures.

The Indian Society of Plant Physiology(ISPP) is established in 1958and is a member of Global Plant Council, a coalition of Plant and Crops societiesfrom across the globe. The society publishes quarterly journal -Indian Journalof Plant Physiology.
