Mr Ian Bunston and I have read all the reports and it is pleasing to read each child’s learning journey. Rangeview offers a range of learning opportunities as we aim to educate the whole child. The curriculum programs at Rangeview are in line with the Australian curriculum, and meet the high expectations of learning in Literacy and Numeracy in our school community. It is hoped that, together with your child, you can discuss the report and your child’s self assessment in a way that is helpful to them as a learner and which encourages and motivates their continued academic, social and emotional development. The interviews with teachers are Wednesday and Thursday this week. If you have any changes, please ring the office on 9874 6381 to notify the teacher. We will ring a bell through the school at 10 minute intervals on the Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. We hope this will be helpful to keep us all on time and remind us to be considerate of others waiting. We do understand that some issues are more complex than a 10 minute interview and may require an extended interview at another time. Since then I have been involved in such initiatives as 'People Can Change' an exhibition inspired by Myuran Sukamaran's paintings from inside Kerobokan Prison which focused on art as therapy (all proceeds from works sold were donated to the drug & alcohol recovery organisation Windana). Through 2015 and now in 2016 I have been part of a collaborative art group called Black Lake Studios and have had open days, where we share work and processes with the public and studio exhibitions. My mural work can be seen at various cafes, public spaces, businesses and residential houses around Melbourne.’ Please visit his website: www.behance.net/ simondransfield Rangeview’s Got Talent The organisation of Rangeview’s Got Talent is underway. Principal’s Report continued Student -Aiden L Congratulations to Aiden L in 6R who has been selected as a member of the Football team as part of the School Sport Victoria Football team. The team will be competing at the annual School Sport Australia 12 Years and Under Boys Australian Football Championships. This is held in Maroochydore, Queensland and he will be representing Rangeview at this event. Traditionally, students who have achieved selection at a national level, and who compete representing Rangeview Primary School, we have supported the student with a contribution to the costs incurred. The level 6 team will be running a sausage sizzle to raise money towards this donation on Friday 15 July.

Rangeview Uniform Wearing the school uniform instils recognition that each student is an integral part of the school community and encourages pride in representing our school. It has been pleasing to notice that the vast majority of students have been wearing their correct school uniform. This has helped to: •Enhance and maintain a positive image of our school throughout the local community •Promote equality amongst all students •Allow all students to identify with our school community and feel a sense of pride in representing Rangeview Primary School •Promote consistency in the appearance of our students with a uniform that is easily recognisable during whole school and interschool excursions and events A reminder that the Uniform Exchange is open every Tuesday morning 8.45-9.15am to purchase good quality second hand uniforms.

Assembly at 2pm and early finish on Friday, 24th June at 2.30pm Just a reminder that Rangeview Primary School is a polling booth for the Federal Election on Saturday, 2nd July. School Council are still needing some volunteers for the BBQ they are holding on the day, so PLEASE ring the office on 9874 6381 if you can volunteer your time (even an hour would be great). Have a safe and restful term break and term 3 begins on Monday, 11th July, 2016.

LOTE FOR LIFE Over the last couple of weeks, students from Klasse Vier, Fünf und Sechs have been participating in the Rangeview German Poetry Competition in preparation for the Regional Final German Poetry Competition to be held this Wednesday at Vermont Secondary College. Congratulations to the three students from each of those Levels, who will be representing Rangeview at the Regional Final on Wednesday:

Klasse 4 - Abby Serpell-Wilcock, Emily Barnes-Read und Caitlin Tainton Klasse 5 – Lamisse Bilal, Isaac Goddard und Eva Lindner Klasse 6 – Raven Ferguson, Ginger Pex und Keeley Zappia

These students will be reciting one of two selected poems to the judges and will be judged according to their pronunciation, tonality, and how well they are able to express the meaning of the poem using their facial expressions, voice and gestures. We wish these students ALLES GUTE (all the best) und VIEL GLÜCK (lots of luck) on Wednesday at the Regional Final.

Es ist Winter! In Germany school children wear their ‘Hausschuhe’ (slippers) in the classroom (and at home!), especially in winter, when it is wet or there is snow outside. To enhance the cultural experience in German lessons, students are invited to bring their ‘Hausschuhe’ (or an extra pair of socks) to their German lessons during the season of winter. Students have also been learning how to ask a variety of questions in German to ensure their comfort and enjoyment during this colder season:

Kann ich bitte eine Decke haben? (Can I please have a blanket?) Kann ich bitte ein Kissen haben? (Can I please have a cushion?) Kann ich bitte ein Stofftier haben? (Can I please have a soft toy?) Kann ich bitte etwas Wasser trinken? (Can I please drink some water?)

In addition they have been learning how to say a variety of short phrases and sentences about winter: Es ist Winter. (It is winter.) Es ist kalt. (It is cold). Es regnet. (It’s raining). Die Bäume sind kahl. (The trees are bare). Es schneit. (It’s snowing). Wir bauen einen Schneemann. (We build a snowman). Wir hüpfen in Wasserpfützen. (We jump in puddles).

We invite you to encourage your child to use their German language skills as often as possible outside the German classroom, to reinforce their newly learnt vocabulary in real situations and to have fun doing so! Should you have any queries or would like additional ideas as how to best support your child’s second language learning, feel free to see us.

Danke schön! Frau Ulrike Lindner & Frau Helga Shaw

Choirs and Band Rehearsals Term 3 Well done to all Junior Choir, Senior Choir and Band students for showing ongoing commitment and enthusiasm this term. It’s been a busy term with lots of performances – Miss Hubbard and I want to thank all the students and families for supporting the Music program through attending rehearsals and performance.

Weekly Junior Choir and Senior Choir rehearsals will begin in Week 2 at 8.15am in the Music room. Band rehearsals will begin Week 1 at 8.00am due to our Vermont PS Band Workshop in Week 4 (Wednesday 3 August). Children will be unsuper-vised until rehearsal time so ensure they are supervised outside the Music room area if you do arrive early.

Music Blog Don’t forget to check in to the Music blog! Updates about what we are learning in Music and interesting articles for all to read. Next term, students will be utilizing the blog to create a forum where they can share their ideas and respond to each other’s opinions: http://musicatrangeview.global2.vic.edu.au/

The school has had a confirmed case of Hand Foot and Mouth Disease in the Foundation (Prep) area.

What is Hand Foot and Mouth Disease? Hand Foot and Mouth Disease is caused by a virus. It causes blisters on the hands, feet, in the mouth and often in the ‘nappy’ area. It is generally a mild disease that lasts 7 to 10 days. Transmission The infection is spread by direct contact with fluid from skin blisters, nose and throat discharges and faeces. Good personal hygiene is important to prevent spread of infection to others.

Signs and symptoms People usually develop symptoms between 3 to 7 days after being infected. The most common signs and symptoms are a high temperature, a sore throat, small blister-like lesions that may occur on the inside of the mouth, sides of the tongue, palms of the hands, fingers, soles of the feet and ‘nappy’ area.

How long is it infectious? The blisters are infectious until they become crusty and there is no fluid in the blisters

Exclusion period from school Children with hand, foot and mouth disease should be excluded from school until all blisters have dried. Further information can be obtained from: Your local doctor or www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au.

ATTENDANCE & END OF TERM PERFORMANCE

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please read and sign form and bring it to the registration morning on Thursday, 24th June. (Payments to be made next term by Wednesday 13th July.)

All students are agreeing to attend the Cheerleading class every week for the duration of the term (excluding

absences due to off site school events/excursions). Students who miss 2 or more classes without explanation may

forego the opportunity to participate in the end of term performance.

Students are taught a choreographed dance routine including several position changes and often partner work. If your child is absent for the assembly performance without notification, it puts unnecessary pressure on the other

students to compensate for those missing and can also leave children without a partner for parts of the routine.

Students can still participate in the weekly classes, even if they are unable to be involved in the assembly

performance due to a planned family holiday etc. I can make allowances for this in the choreography as long as I know in advance.

Please complete the below information. This document is required to confirm a place in the class. This enables me to confirm class numbers for the end of term performance and offer additional places accordingly.

I:………………………………………………………………(print name),

Parent/Guardian of:………………………………………………………………….(students name) confirm that she

WILL/WILL NOT (circle either) be in attendance for the end of term assembly performance on Friday, 16th

September.
