We would like to express our appreciation and thanks to all those who have assisted in so many ways this year. We are holding a Volunteers’ Afternoon Tea next Wednesday, 13th December 2017 at 3.30pm to express our thanks. CHRISTMAS CONCERT Monday, 18th December 20176.00pm – 8.30pm Our preparations for the Christmas Concert to be held on Monday, 18th December are continuing. If you haven’t already done so, please mark this date in your diary as it one of our favourite annual whole school events. Please be aware that this is a smoke, alcohol and drug free event.

During the course of the evening, the Brian Wooster Memorial Award will be presented to a member of the school community in recognition of his/her contribution to our school.REPAIRS TO FRONT OF SCHOOL Over time, the Music Room and adjacent offices have experienced dampness and offensive odours following wet or humid weather. The Department of Education and Training will begin their investigation and repairs to that part of the Acacia Building. This will mean that Mr Simon Ferwerda will be conducting Music lessons in classrooms, Ms Carol Vidmar, Mrs Kelly Spurr and I will be relocating to the Conference Room until the end of the year. The remediation works began on 4th December and will continue through to January 2018.Hopefully the source of the ongoing damp and offensive odour will be found and action taken to resolve the problem.LAST DAY OF TERM – 1.00pm FINISHING TIME Please note that the finishing time for the last day of term, Friday 22nd December 2017, is at 1.00pm. Parents are being given plenty of notice to make arrangements for their child to be collected from their classroom at 1.00pm on the last day.I leave you with a quote especially for our Graduating Class of 2017:

Behind you, all your memories. Before you, all your dreams. Around you, all who love you. Within you, all you need.

NEWS FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALOn Monday, we had our 2018 Prep Information Night. It was wonderful to welcome all the new faces to our school community as these parents prepare their children for their first year of schooling next year. It’s always an exciting time!

Very excitingly- tomorrow is our Year 6 students’ graduation! Our Graduates have been rehearsing their dances, songs, speeches and routines for tomorrow night’s event- which I am sure is going to be a wonderful night for everyone. I’m certainly looking forward to it!

Please be aware that the date for our annual Christmas Concert has changed to Monday 18th December at 6:00pm. The local secondary school has an information night for 2018 Year 7 students and we didn’t want our Year 6’s to miss out on their last Christmas Concert at MPPS. Please note this change on your calendars. The PFA Christmas Raffle will be drawn on the night and we thank all parents in advance for selling and buying tickets. If you require any more tickets they are available at the office. The hampers look great and there are some great prizes to be won, so good luck to you all.

Student Attendance

It’s NOT OK to be away!

It’s COOL to be at SCHOOL!

Remember that being at school and on time, every day, can improve student learning! Please make sure you continue to send a note if your child is going to be absent from school. Our goal is to ensure that we are able to significantly reduce any unexplained absences and encouraging our students to attend school. Remember that it is your responsibility to provide the school with an explanation for your child’s absence. If you are concerned about your child having to have a long term absence, please ensure that you contact the school and keep us informed.

Remember that everyday your child is at school they not only enrich their learning but also develop stronger relationships with their peers and feel connected with the school routine. These important factors help each child feel a sense of belonging to our school.

With only two weeks of school left and lots of fun activities planned, it would be great if everyone attends!

Curriculum News

Here are a few ideas to help you develop your child’s Maths skills and link it to real life learning.Travel timetables are an excellent resources to use, you can try the following:

z Can you identify your starting point on the timetable?

z What is the earliest and latest time to travel on this route? What is the difference?

z How long does it take to travel the entire route?

z How many stops are there on this route?

z What is the difference in the time travelled when not making all stops?

z What is the cost? Is it good value compared to other travel options?

Money z Encourage your child to work out how much change

they will get after buying an item.

z Investigate a cost of a family day trip or holiday.

z Discuss saving up money for a present.

z Negotiate increases in pocket money in percentages.

z Calculate together the cost of a mobile phone.

Newspapers z Estimate the percentage of pictures and text on the

front page.

z Research the cost per word on an advertisement. How much would an ad cost?

z Find numbers in newspapers cut and order them from smallest to largest.

z Search for entertainment, select a movie then calculate the cost for the family to see a movie.

z Try a Sudoku puzzle.

Remember getting involved in your child’s learning now, will make a big difference to their future. A little bit today will help them shine tomorrow.

Have a great week.

READING MATTERSOVERDUE BOOKS

Congratulations to H1, H7 and H4 all their books have been returned. Thank you to parents and students who have returned library books this week. All student borrowing has now ceased and all books must be returned to the library as soon as possible. The library is closed for end of year stocktake and reorganisation but you can leave your books in the tub by the door. We currently have 185 books overdue or missing. Keep returning your books, especially Year 6 and those who are not returning in 2018, so that I am not putting you on Santa’s naughty list. Please look in your book cases, Grandma’s bookcase, under the bed, in the wardrobe, in your siblings wardrobe, in Mum’s car and Dad’s car and return these books as soon as possible so that others can enjoy them. The library is open from 8.30am – 3.45pm Monday to Friday so there is no excuse for an overdue book

Happy reading
