March 1, 2019

It has been a very busy 3rd quarter. Thank you to all of you who worked so hard on the Father/Daughter dance. By all accounts it was a big success and lots of fun for all! We are so excited to have the Mobile Cherry Creek Arts fair back again this year. I hope you will all plan to attend the open house on March 5th from 5 to 7 to view the art work. Our middle school art students will be docents for the evening and will be able to tell you about the artist and their work. I believe we will have a special music performance as well!

Thank you for continuing to follow our carpool rules. By only making right turns, we are keeping our stu-dents safe. We really appreciate that those of you who drop your students off on Carlson Drive are doing so before (to the east of) the No Parking Signs. That allows the cars that are getting in line to enter our drive, space to line up along the curb of Carlson Drive so that the flow of traffic on Carlson can continue.

We are so proud of our Battle of the Books teams. Our 3rd/4th grade team did well, and our 5th/6th grade team made it to the semifinals! Congratulations to both teams.

Good luck to our Destination Imagination teams as they compete in their regional tournament on March 9th.

April is the month of standardized testing in all public schools in Colorado for 3rd through 8th grade. We em-brace these tests as they are an indicator on how we are doing. They support us in our efforts to ensure that every student’s academic needs are being met. Thank you for supporting our efforts to improve our school by having your student(s) participate in the testing.

It is hard to believe that we are just a couple of weeks away from Spring Break. I hope you all have a nice week with your families.

From the Desk of the Counselor, Ms.K: I am a Colorado native who began my career of working with students as a high school

Ultimate Frisbee coach in 2012 with those teams earning 7 state championship appearances and 4 State Champion titles. I received my undergraduate degree in Environmental Design from CU Boulder, but began pursuing my passion and a career in helping people while working in the corporate design world. My love of people combined with a deeply ingrained sense of adventure and curiosity led me to working for a student travel company where I was stationed in villages from Fiji to Tanzania working with students from pre-k to college from dozens of different countries. My experi-ences there included teaching, facilitating community service projects, and other highlights like climb-ing Mt. Kilimanjaro with 13 adolescents who all made it to the top! I received my Masters degree in Counseling with an emphasis in School Counseling from CU Denver’s School of Education and Human Development. I am passionate about working with communities and children of all ages and backgrounds. I am thrilled to be here at C2E and I look forward to getting to know you to best serve your children and community!

In order to provide the best support possible, I want to be as easily accessible as I can. To that goal, we have added a counseling tab to the main C2E website:

On the counseling page you will have access to FAQ’s about school counseling, a requests and referrals page, as well as helpful resources including tips on anxiety or how to help children manage conflict resolution, and more. If you have a concern for your child, please feel free to email me or use the Parent section of the Requests & Referrals page to get your child on my list of students to see:

In order to best serve C2E and build a counseling program specific to the needs and strengths of the community I am asking parents/guardians to fill out this brief needs assessment (https://goo.gl/forms/7YurFlrjFExfa43Y2). I greatly appreciate your time and insight, and all responses will be used to better support and meet the needs of the students here at C2E. Thank you so much! All the best,

Ms. K

CHECK OUT INNOVATION IN ACTION

Attend a Destination Imagination (DI) tournament and witness creativity, engineering, acting, and problem solving by C2E students. Students will present their creative solutions to a number of mind-bending Challenges in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), fine arts, and service learning. Parents, educators, and students are en-couraged to attend a tournament to discover everything Destination Imag-ination has to offer.

• C2E has 4 teams participating in the competition this year - one K-2 team and three 3-5 teams.

• Our elementary teams have spent weeks perfecting their Challenge solu-tions.

• The event is the open to the public, and visitors are encouraged to attend.

School Accountability Committee (SAC)

What is SAC? SAC is a committee comprised of seven voting members: three parent representatives elected by C2E families, one PVA (Parent Volunteer As-sociation-fundraising/planning events) parent representative, our principal or designee, one teacher representative, one community representative, and non voting members. We welcome you to come to our meetings! If you can not make it to a meeting please feel free to reach out to the committee by emailing us at [email protected]. Scheduled meetings can be found on the C2E website under the “Councils” tab. You also can view SAC bylaws, minutes for all meetings, and agenda topics.

Next meeting is March 8th, 8a.m.

Some responsibilities of SAC are listed below.

SAC reviews the school’s testing data (ie: I-Ready and PARCC) to help offer recommendations to the C2E Administration for ways to keep striving for excellence in all of the core fundamental educational elements of reading, math, writing, and science.

SAC works with C2E administration to adopt the Unified Improvement Plan

(UIP) that addresses goals and objectives for improvements in education at C2E.

Making recommendations to the principal on the school priorities for spend-

ing moneys, including federal funds, where applicable. In addition, the SAC meets monthly in an open forum meeting for parents to

attend. Parent questions or comments are presented to the committee in an open forum section and limited to 3 minute presentations.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

A NOTE FROM YOUR PVA BOARD:

Spirit Wear Days: Friday, March 1st and Friday, April 5th

PVA Meeting: Friday, March 29th

Box Tops/Labels for Education Contest: April 1st – 30th

Intent to Run forms due: Friday, April 5th

Spring Fundraiser – Vendor Fair: Saturday, April 13th

The end of this school year is less than three months away! The PVA is hard at work planning events for the remainder of the year and looking ahead to next year’s calendar. And PVA Elections are coming up at the end of April. Parent involvement is crucial to the success of your children’s educations, and it’s also fun and a great way to get to know other parents and families at C2E. Plus your volunteer hours help the school when applying for grants or for rechartering – that’s why each family is asked to volunteer at least 20 hours per school year. If you haven’t met your volunteer hours requirement yet, there are still plenty of opportunities for you this school year.

The PVA is one way you can get involved at C2E. See the Get Involved page on the PVA website for a list of upcoming events with dates, links to contact chairpersons, and signup links. And please join us on Friday, March 29th for our next PVA meeting. There are parents who have been actively involved in the PVA and in planning events since the beginning of the school year. But it’s not too late to roll up your sleeves and get involved yourself. We can’t wait to meet you! Melissa, Erika, Wendy, Robi, and Vicky Your 2018-19 PVA Board

FATHER DAUGHTER DANCE – THANK YOU! Thank you to everyone who came to the Daddy Daughter Dance on February 22nd. What fun everyone had with music, dancing, crafts, games, and decorations! Thank you to event co-chairs Denise Grovo and Melissa Kelsey for doing such a wonderful job on this event.

SPIRIT WEAR DAYS: Upcoming Spirit Wear Days: Friday, March 1st and Friday, April 5th It may not feel like it now, but Spring is on its way! Make sure you are prepared for warmer weather with short-sleeved Spirit Gear from K & K Monograms here in Parker.

Friday, March 29th 8:00 – 9:00 AM We know that, like us, you are busy with your families and jobs, but you can make a real difference at C2E with just a small amount of time. Please join us at our next PVA meeting to meet and connect with other parents, share your ideas, find out what’s going on with the PVA, and learn about our scheduled events for the remainder of the school year.

The meeting will be held on Friday, March 29th, in C2E’s Library, at 8:00 am, right after drop off. We promise to wrap it up in about an hour. All parents are welcome. And don’t forget that, by attending a meeting, you’re logging volunteer hours! See you there!

BOX TOPS contest: April 1st to April 30th We will be having our Spring Box Tops contest during the month of April. Turn in your collected Box Tops to your homeroom teacher between April 1st and 30th to win a PARTY for the top Elementary and Middle School classes. Also, we will award a GIFT CARD to the top student in Elementary and Middle School!

This is an easy way to contribute to C2E. Every box top is worth 10 cents that the school can use to purchase much needed supplies and equipment. For details about how to submit box tops, see the Box Tops page on the PVA website. We will need vol-unteers to help count box tops when the contest is over, so please watch the PVA website, school newsletters, and social media for more information. And don’t forget to SAVE THOSE BOX TOPS!

PVA ELECTIONS:

Intent to Run forms due: Friday, April 5th Elections: Friday, April 26th By having a student at C2E, all parents are already a part of the PVA. But, if you have great ideas about changes you’d like to see in the Parent Volunteer Association (PVA) and the events we offer, you may want to consider serving on the 2019/20 Board. To register your interest, complete and submit your “Intent to Run” form to C2E’s front office by Friday, April 5th, 2019. The form can be found on the PVA website under Re-sources | Intent to Run for Executive Board Position or via this link. Elections will be held on Friday, April 26th, 2019. Note that no experience is necessary, just a willingness to support the PVA in its purpose of promoting and encouraging fundraising and community building events to enhance students’ educational experi-ences.

We are currently looking for President, Vice President, Secretary, and Communication board members. Click here for detailed information on each position. If you’re inter-ested in joining the PVA Board or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected].
