Strategic teams looking at designing playgrounds and bike tracks for our new school have met. All students have now been presented with a fabulous KidsCan jacket. These look amazing! All students in years 5-6 have completed a wellbeing survey. This allows us to gather a snapshot of how children are feeling and look at areas we can improve on. 2021/2022 Enrollments

Please - If you haven't already - notify us of any siblings wishing to attend Banks Avenue in 2021 or 2022. Please email Lydia on

[email protected] or pop into the office and fill in a pre-enrolment form. We are not accepting any out of zone new families and we have

limited spaces for out of zone siblings. Kia ora tatou This is week 7 of a ten week term. How are you all feeling? We can see there are challenges in many households; if there is anything we can do to help or if you think we need to be aware of something, call in for a catch up. As I have mentioned before these are very odd times for us all and together is better! We have also noticed children are unsettled in the playground and some ‘mean’ behaviours are being seen. As a school we are focusing on aroha; using kind words, thoughts and actions in all settings. We have been busy at school:

    ● Seniors have sporting events against other schools each Friday. ● Extracurricular netball and basketball competitions are underway. Thanks

to the teachers and parents who support these events. ● Swimming starts soon for Team Miro. ● Chocolates have all been sold; this was to help pay for camps in 2021. ● Our middle school just had a great day out at Orana Park and one class

also has a farm visit coming up. ● Our juniors have invited dads and grandads along on Friday to spend

some quality time in class and to have lunch. ● Teachers have continued to refine their DMIC maths practices through

professional development. ● Teachers have been preparing for online learning in case we move alert

levels in the future. ● Strategic teams looking at designing playgrounds and bike tracks for our

new school have met. ● All students have now been presented with a fabulous KidsCan jacket.

These look amazing! ● All students in years 5-6 have completed a wellbeing survey. This allows

us to gather a snapshot of how children are feeling and look at areas we can improve on.

  • ● We applied for and have been granted an additional $18,500 from the Government as part of their Urgent Response Fund to help schools manage through these tricky times. This money will give us 700 hours of additional learning assistant time which we will use over the next two terms.

    ● Our PTA have been busy behind the scenes; planning for our next disco and arranging for a working bee in the upcoming holidays. They have also organised pizzas for this Friday. YUM!

Whew! No wonder many of us are feeling weary. At least spring is here and we have good weather to look forward to. School Photos Tomorrow Photos become an artifact of our childhood so it is important that all students are here, on time, tomorrow for our annual photoshoot. It is always a bit sad if a child or a staff member is away on photo day. Assembly As we have been at Level 2 we have cancelled our whole school assemblies, however, we are excited as we are going to run our first whole school assembly online this Friday! This will be a bit of a feat in digital excellence, however, we will give it a go. We hope for our final assembly of the term that we will all be able to be together again. We will keep you informed. Breakfast Club Thanks to those families who have brought some bowls or cutlery in over the last week. If you have any bowls for cereal (or spoons) that you could donate, drop them off to the office. More information about the breakfast club that will be starting in term 4 will come out shortly. Mau Rakau We have had a group of children doing bone carving. We can see their fabulous carvings. Thanks mana ake for this initiative.

Cultural Manifestation Competitions Thank you for participating in this competition. The winning entry is from Noah M (Room 10) and his family. Here is their entry:

Story: The school HEART emblems have been combined with many aspects. Maui’s hook anchors the hearts together, raperape ties the hearts together at the top to symbolise a new, forward beginning. The flounder at the top shows the importance of manaakitanga and the puhoro at the bottom symbolises the wake of forward momentum. Runner ups were Melinda and Amber B.

  • Tonga Language Week Uike Kātoanga’i ‘o e Lea Faka-Tonga 2020 is on from Sunday 6 September to Saturday 12 September. Have a look at the Pasifika page of our Banks Avenue School website for some resources and activities you can do with your children to celebrate this week.

    Starting School

We welcome the following children and their families to Banks Avenue School.

Ryder (Room 8 - The Nest) Elijah and Katelyn (Room 6 - The Nest) Lego Wanted We are looking for donations of lego. If you have any lying around home, we would love to receive your donation. Contact Tracey or drop into the office.

Updates from the teams and school events

Junior Module We are going ahead with our event on Friday. We will keep to the numbers we need to for each junior school team by having our visitors stay close to each class. If you have ordered a pizza it will be delivered to the classroom your child is in. Because we are still at Alert Level 2 we need to make sure we abide by our health and safety protocols. There are several options for entering the school grounds at 12:00pm.

    ● You can use the Covid tracing app on your phone as you enter the school grounds.

    ● If you have a Banks Avenue School: Level 2 Pass for Friday use that.

    ● If you have neither of these, please sign in at the classroom you are visiting. A sheet will be in each class for this so you will not need to come to the office to sign in.

Don’t forget to bring a joke to share with us on the day. We look forward to seeing you.

  • Term 3 HEART Value Focus Excellence

    Hauora Excellence Aroha Respect Togetherness
