Woolworths Earn and Learn is

back!!

Woolworths Earn & Learn is back and it is now easier

than ever to earn valuable equipment for your primary

school.

It's simple to participate. From Wednesday 1st May to

Tuesday 25th June 2019 or while stock lasts, you can

collect Woolworths Earn & Learn Stickers from the

checkout operator, via team members at the self-service

checkout or through an online order and place them on a

Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheet. There will be one

Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker for every $10 spent

(excluding liquor, tobacco, and gift cards).

Once completed, simply place the completed Sticker

Sheet in the Collection Box at school.

SCHOOL UNIFORMS: Parents and carers please support our school by ensuring your child wears the

correct school uniform every day.

The Belmore South Public School Community expects students to show pride in their school.

Our school uniform consists of the Royal and Sky blue Polo Shirt with School Crest and Royal Blue Trousers, Shorts or Skort

or the school Dress with or without Navy tights. White socks and Black shoes.

Plain Sky Blue or Plain Royal Blue polo shirts are NOT the school uniform. It is very important for our students to show

pride in being a member of our community and we ask you for your support in helping them achieve this.

Our Uniform shop is open on Tuesday mornings 8:30-9:30 am during the term.

If your child has outgrown their uniform, please consider donating your children’s school uniforms back to the uniform

shop so children in the future can make use of them.

Our P&C are proud of the work that we do to ensure our

kids and families have access to wonderful social events.

Our incredible volunteers work behind the scenes to

support our school in ways too many to count:

Uniform shop

Mother’s and Father’s day stalls

School Discos

Planning and steering committees

Fundraising

Grants

Staff appointments

These wonderful social and fun activities for our kids are

only possible by Parents and carers—just like you— putting

their hand up at a meeting or putting their name forward in

the office.

To ensure our school keeps a strong Parent and Carers

association, we ask all parents to join up , volunteer for even

one event a year, one sausage sizzle, one meeting,

one disco, one committee.

Those that benefit are our kids, we are all shy, we are all

busy but for our kids education, volunteering for one event

a year can make all the difference.

Belmore South Bucks for Bottles

Congratulations to all BSPS Students, Teachers and Parents for using the yellow

recycling bins for plastic bottles, cans and juice boxes.

As a result, we now have 8 full bags to redeem for cash, meaning we have less

plastic in landfill and a happier wildlife.

Keep up the good work and remember the little extras:

“It’s just one straw”, said 8 billion people. If I stop, if 8 million people stop, imagine

the result!

Be brave, make a change and empower those around you.

From a very grateful Ms Alex

kNOw Waste Last Friday 14 June, Belmore South participated in the kNOw waste incursion. Belmore South students were offered education and training on recycling and recyclable products. Students found out what is the best practice for individuals to help keep the environment clean, what happens to waste products and finally, where the waste products go – not just to the rubbish tip. Students enjoyed the interactive aspect of the incursion where they had the opportunity to think and determine what each coloured (yellow, green and red) bin is used for and what exactly can and cannot be put in there. Thank you Ms Madzar for organising this learning experience.

Dear Parents/ Carers,

This year our school has registered to participate in the NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge.

The purpose of the Challenge is to encourage students to participate in sport and physical

activity to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Over a ten week period (Term 2, Week 6 – Term 3, Week 5), our school will be monitoring

physical activity levels during class time, at recess and lunch as well as during sport lessons.

Physical activity outside school hours will also count towards the Challenge award. The aim is

to work towards an average at least 60 minutes of activity a day for ten weeks.

Our school will be working towards a class-based award OR individual student award at the

conclusion of the Challenge.

We would like to invite families to support us in encouraging students’ healthy use of leisure

time and to experience the joy of being active together.

Students in 3-6, will be issued with a logbook to record their daily physical activity. Whilst K-2

students will work towards a Gold class award level.

Students completing the Challenge will receive a personalised certificate (Diamond, Gold,

Silver or Bronze), signed by the Premier of New South Wales.

Physical activity is valued for its physical, social and emotional benefits. It also helps young

people to develop communication skills, confidence and resilience.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of the Challenge, please contact Mrs Li, Mr Bordador

or Ms Kassem who will be pleased to talk further with you.

Yours sincerely,

Premier Sporting Challenge Committee

Refugee Week takes place every year across the world in the week of World Refugee Day on 20 June.

Refugee Week started in 1998 as a direct response to the hostility the media and society in general has shown towards

refugees and asylum seekers.

Belmore South Public School held a wonderful assembly on June 20 with a Stage 3 performance run by Ms Wardman. This

was followed by a song of unity called ‘One Song’ to celebrate and acknowledge our connectedness to our community and

the world.

A big thank you to all the parents, guess speaker, students who performed, Belmore South staff and the CONNECT Team.

OUR STORY

TASK was started in 2013 by Madi Morrison and Suzanne Tucker – two mums with 3 children each. We were

experiencing the chronic shortage of after school care at our own school in Sydney’s Inner West. We began as a small

homework club – with 5 children (3 of them ours!) with one educator in a classroom. Our aim was to create a place that

combined care, play and homework after school. In 2015, we became approved providers of out of school care. We

have grown over six years and now operate in Newcastle, the Central Coast, Tweed Heads and Sydney in 15 schools

across the public and independent/catholic school systems. TASK is an ethically private service – we channel monies

back into our programs, people and resources. Madi and Suzanne are joint and equal owners of TASK. We employ 120

people – all of them from the local communities in and around the schools at which we provide service. Anyone

wanting to work with us, please send us a resume. We love spending time with kids and love seeing them try new

things, make new friends and develop new skills. We are passionate about improving, every day.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

As part of our History unit of study ‘First Contacts’, students from Stage 2 are going on an excursion. Students will have the

opportunity to explore where the Endeavour ship landed in Botany Bay in 1770. Students will study European exploration to

Australia up to the early 1800’s. They will literally follow the footsteps of the British explorer James Cook, Sir Joseph Banks and

the crew on board the Endeavour.

Students are to wear full school uniform and bring packed food – crunch and sip, recess, lunch, snacks and bottled water. Please

note that students will not have access to a canteen at the site. Please ensure your student has appropriate weather protection,

eg hat, sunscreen and a jacket. Please also note that there are no cameras or electronic devices permitted on this excursion.

Teachers supervising the excursion will take a copy of your child’s emergency contact and medical information from the office. If

this information has changed, please update this with the school office as soon as possible.
