As you are aware, at the December 9th Board of Education meeting,
the Board of Education approved the closure of Charles Carroll Elementary
School and boundaries were adjusted. As a result, your child will attend a
different Elementary School in August of 2016. Careful thought, prepara-
tion and planning is going into every detail of your child’s transition to
their new school. Great care has been taken to develop a transition plan to
insure success for all of our students. Details regarding those opportunities
will be advertised as time gets closer.
Our staff continues to focus our energy toward assuring our students
continue benefitting from exceptional instruction and positive social experi-
ences every day at Charles Carroll. The positive culture established at
Charles Carroll Elementary School and in the CCE community is invalua-
ble during this time of change.
With the conclusion of the most recent blizzard, Mrs. Laffer and I
would like to thank our outstanding custodial staff for their hard work. We
greatly appreciate their dedication.

The
Scholastic
Book Fair
Was a HUGE
Success!
Thank you to all of our CCE families for helping to make the
Scholastic Book Fair a success! Profits earned from the fair
will be used to buy books for all the students at Charles Carroll
so that we can support their love of reading! A special thank
you to the PTA who helped fund a book purchase for every stu-
dent in the school!
Battle of the Books is fast approaching. All are invited to help
cheer on our 4th and 5th grade teams on May 6th, 6:30 pm, at
Elmer Wolfe Elementary School. Come cheer us on as we try
to defend our trophy and have a wonderful time celebrating
some terrific books!
A reminder to please check on bookshelves at home, under
beds, in closets, etc. for any Media Center overdue
books! Overdue or lost book notices will be going home within
the next few weeks.
Thanks and Happy Reading!

Health News Health News:
Kindergarten and 1st grade students participated in a safety program provided by
AAA of Maryland on November 18th. The students shared safety tips about
seatbelts, wearing helmets and crossing the street. The information was shared
by a police officer and a car that talked to them.
Our Halloween candy collection was a huge success again this year. Students
participated in lessons about overindulging in sugary treats this time of the year
during health classes. Students were then encouraged to donate some of their
candy and other toiletries to our military service personnel. Last year we collect-
ed about 135 pounds and we wanted to top that this year. A big thank you to the
PTA for sending off this donation.
PROJECT ACES had its best year ever at Charles Carroll! 73% of our students
returned their journals this year and more importantly 98% of those students
completed the challenge of 60 minutes or more of physical activity for the two
weeks of the challenge. As a result we tied for the first place school in Carroll
County and awarded $400 for our efforts! Congratulations to all of our students
and staff that participated in the challenge. A big thank you goes out to our PTA
for increasing the awards for participants!
