I wanted to also share some exciting news for our local members! Thanks to the efforts of Jeremy Smith & Greg Canter and back by popular demand, the Austin Chapter will be providing another session of the ASHRAE University for the spring semester. This will be another multi-week course held at the Trane office on the North side of town. If you are interested, please keep an eye out for email blasts in the near future. A group of volunteers will be judging the Austin Regional Science Fair on Thursday February 18th for both Junior High and Senior High divisions. Also, The University of Texas will be hosting “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” on Saturday February 27th. Our ASHRAE volunteers will be presenting a variety of HVAC demos including pumps, VFDs, and controls. If you are interested in these events please contact our Student Activities Chair Gayle Davis ([email protected]). The Austin Chapter will be hosting our annual Golf Tournament March 28th. The registration for the event should open in the next few weeks. Please contact our Golf Tournament Coordinator Stephen Greco ([email protected]). One of my goals this year is to promote increased membership to make our chapter BETTER. Austin is growing and so should our membership base. I would like to encourage all of our members to invite one non-member during the year to attend a monthly chapter meeting. This is a great way to demonstrate the value of ASHRAE and encourage people to become members. Please remember ASHRAE is a volunteer driven organization. GRASSROOTS GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS UPDATE

E ngineers Week (EWeek), celebrating its 65th anniversary this year, is planned for February 21-27,

2016. EWeek celebrates how engineers and engineering make a difference in our world. As part of

this annual event, we urge having Governors, Mayors and other elected and appointed officials

recognize this occasion with official proclamations. ASHRAE has a Draft Proclamation and a Draft Cover

Letter you can use to promote this event and encourage participation at all levels of government (see the

website!). I will be speaking at the Marble Falls, TX city council meeting Feb. 16 and I expect them to

adopt a formal proclamation in support of Engineers week. JON-ERIK JOHNSON

MEMBERSHIP PROMOTION

O ur current member count for Austin is 342. We have had a good amount of new members and

transfers join our chapter so we are net positive on membership for the year so far. However,

we do have a lot of members cancelling/phasing out of the chapter and ASHRAE as a society

due to non-payment. We will be making calls/reaching out to delinquent members later this month in

the hopes of getting people up to date on payments. Don’t duck our calls or I will have to sic David

Bacorn on you.
