ASHRAE APRIL MEETING
I am excited to announce that we will be having the current
ASHRAE Society President, David Underwood, visiting us for
our April Chapter Meeting at Matt El Rancho during lunch on
April 21st. And to make things even BETTER, it is also the Austin
Chapter’s 60 Anniversary. David will be discussing ASHRAE’s bEQ
Labeling Program. Please help support the Austin Chapter and
celebrate with us.
We recently completed the Annual ASHRAE Golf Tournament at The
Hills of Lakeway. Big thanks to Stephen Greco for organizing the event. I know everyone
had a great time on such a beautiful course and the weather was perfect. Also, shout out to
the DSI team for taking first place.
Next month we will be holding our Annual Bowling Tournament at Westgate Lane down in south Austin from 7-9pm. We have 15 lanes reserved with 5 players per team. It is going to be a blast! Come make the event even BETTER by bringing a guest. For additional information contact Mark Mikulin at [email protected]. I would really like to thank all of the members and our sponsors who have contributed time
and donations to make the Austin Chapter BETTER. I hope that being involved with the
chapter is worthwhile, enjoyable, and educational for everyone and that we continue to meet
and exceed our goals. Our Chapter year is coming to a close at the end of June and we will be
striving to meet our ASHRAE Research Promotion goal. Please consider giving to ASHRAE
Research which supports our industry and our livelihood.
We are always looking for volunteers to get involved. If you are interested in helping ASHRAE
Austin Chapter for the 2015-2016 year, please contact me or any of the committee chairs listed
on the back page of our ASHRAE Austin Chapter newsletter.

FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK
P lease join us for a lunch meeting at Matt’s El Rancho on April 21.
ASHRAE Society President T. David Underwood, P.E. is speaking for us this month for the Austin Chapter’s 60th Anniversary!
The Introduction to bEQ Labeling Program
bEQ labeling has two aspects “In Operation” and “As Designed”. This discussion will cover the advantages and disadvantages of both these programs from a grass roots member point of view. There will be some discussion of local marketing of these programs in a fully developed form and the value of using both aspects together.

GRASSROOTS GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS UPDATE
A few newsworthy items this month from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers. For those
renewing their PE license in April-the renewal fee dropped significantly from 2015. In July of last
year the legislature reduced the renewal fee from $200 to $40. With all this extra money in our
pockets perhaps a windfall in ASHRAE Research donations is upon us?
Also, in Feb of this year the Board approved rules to allow for the 'decoupling' of the experience
requirements for licensure and the approval to take the PE exam. These rules will officially be
implemented in May 2016. This change will allow a Texas Engineer in Training (EIT) to register for the
PE exam prior to meeting the full experience requirement. The May implementation date means the new
system will be in effect for the upcoming October 2016 PE exam but will not be applicable for the April
2016 exam. "TBPE is pleased to offer flexibility for taking the PE exam in passing the "decoupling"
provision," said TBPE Chairman Daniel Wong, Ph.D., P.E. "Decoupling does not change the current requirements
for PE licensure or the PE exam itself but just offers a more flexible time line to accommodate different career and
life paths of our future engineers".
