From the President We have just finished a very successful conference in Philadelphia, Over 100 people attended. On behalf of the As sociation, I want to thank Carmella Strano of Moss Rehabil ­itation Hospital and her Committee, Janice Gersley, affiliated with J.F. Kennedy Hospital , Suzanne Green, with Magee Rehabilitation Hospital and Sally Ordione of Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital for thei r efforts in making this event so successful.

The purpose of our Association is to help t hos e in t he field looking for answers, so if we can be of help to you in any way, please write or call. If we are going to be a strong eff ective organization, we need your help. I would encourage each of you to volunteer to serve on a commi ttee . Committee participation helps us in our selection of the Executive Board and selection of nominees for officers. We are working to extend the service and influence of our Association on the profession. We need and welcome you to help us with these tasks.

The Publications Committee, which handles the newsletter, would like to have you submit articles for publication or if you have an idea for an article you would like to read, contact Carmella Strano,

The Membership Committee would encourage each of you to invite anyone who might have an interest in t he profession to join ADED . Membership applications are available through the office . Write to Don Henson, ADED , Post Office Box 8107, Ann AI'bor, Michigan 48107.

An announcement was made at the conference of the establishment of an ad hoc committee on standards and certification. Dr. Donald Smith, President-Elect of ADED, has agreed to chair this committee and Margaret Young, Susan Pierce, Leroy Rotschafer and Harren Smith have been named to the committee with the intent of representing the various interests in ADED. The committee held its first mee t ing at the conference and will be working via correspondence and phone to develop materials throughout the year. A mid year meeting will be held over the weekend of April 13 and 14, 1985 in Ann Arbor in conjunction with the Executive Board meeting. If you wish to feed material to this committee, I'm sure they would welcome your input.

A progress report will be planned for the 1985 Conference in South Bend, Indiana September 18-20. Make your plans now to attend the 1985 Conference in South Bend. Have a good ye ar .

I also need someone who would be willing to become a sort of lTassistant editortr. JOB FILE Comprehensive university rehabilitation center with research funds exceeding 1.5 million dollars per year seeks applicants for the following positions:

1. OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

Minimum requirements are (1) Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program (2) Registra­tion as an Occupational Therapist (3) Experience in assessment and preparing device prescriptions. Experience in assessment, education and training of the dis abled to drj.ve is preferred. Occupational Therapist will perform driver assessments , education, and training in na tionally funded Reh~bilitation Engineering Center for Personal Licensed Vehicles and participate in other assessment services of the Center for Rehabilitati on Science , Engineering and Training. Sal ary will be based upon education and experience.

2. DRIVING/MOBILITY SPECIALIST

Minimum requirements are (1) Bachelor ' s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program (2) Registra­tion as an Occupational Therapist (3) Experience in assessment and preparing device prescriptions. Experience in assessment, education and training of the disabled to drive is preferred. Driving/ Mobility Specialist will perform driver assessments, education, and training in nationally funded Rehabilitation Engineering

NOTEWORTHY! The driver evaluation program at Phoenix Baptist Hospital is off the ground and running. The program headed by CYNTHIA CLAUS recently acquired a van equipped with reduced effort steering and brakes. The vehicle was purchased through a donat ion from The Foundation for Baptist Health Systems. And they are involved in a joint venture research project with Arizona State University exploring the relationship between visual scanning and processing skills in the driving task. Sounds as if you're very busy Cynthia.

WP~REN SMITH, Coordinator of VA Driver Ed program in Alexandria, VA and David Simlow, Driver Education Specialist at the VA Medical Center in Hines, IL were presentors at the International Conference on Rural Rehabilitation Technologies. The conference was held on October 23-25, 1984 at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks.
