Also, during the meeting our newest member, Alberta Murstein, was inducted, and Sherri Brown was

acknowledged as this year’s recipient of the Owens-Culbertson necklace for all of her hard work and

participation over the last year. The Owens-Culbertson Award was instituted in 1989. Martha

Culbertson was given a necklace for her fifty years of service to the Club. She was the owner of

Culbertson Jewelry. The circular pendant has the years of membership and her initials on the back

1931-1981 M.H.C. When Martha died her family gave the necklace to her friend Elizabeth Owens, a

Zonta member and librarian for the Mercantile Library. After Elizabeth died, her family returned the

necklace to the Club where it is now given to a current member every year.

CLUB COOKBOOK for DISTRICT SEMINAR: ACT NOW

Linda Daus, Sharon Carmody, and I thought it would be neat to have a club cookbook. We can use this as a

fundraiser for use within the club, maybe to supplement expenses for delegates for convention, conference or

seminars.

How does this involve you besides purchasing one when finished? Your favorite recipes of course! We are

interested in all categories: appetizers, entrees, salads, vegetables, desserts and any I may have missed.

Please send your recipes to Linda Daus ([email protected]). We would like to have it completed by District Seminar

which is the weekend of Sept. 15-17. Please Collect and Send Your Favorite Recipes Today and Thanks!

Strategic Planning with

Monsanto Women’s Network Over the past several months, Zonta board members have been working with the Monsanto Women’s

Network on a pro bono project to develop a strategic plan and a marketing/communications plan to raise

awareness of Zonta STL and our good work. Several members of the Zonta St. Louis Board visited

Monsanto Company in Creve Coeur last month to meet with representatives of Monsanto’s Women’s

Network to hear the suggestions from the network.

The network’s suggestions to build awareness and increase membership included (1) refreshing the

website, (2) increasing social media presence and connections, and (3) launching a new and fresh

fundraiser.

“I appreciated the opportunity to meet with representatives of Monsanto’s Women’s Network and

appreciate their thoughtful and comprehensive approach to learning about our fabulous

organization. Their fresh thinking and insightful recommendations will help us as we continue to build

our long range plans.” said Liz Heitman, President of Zonta STL.

In addition to the focus on Zonta, the women had a wonderful opportunity to connect, visit and enjoy

professional camaraderie. Two Zonta members and Monsanto employees, Sherri Brown and Elizabeth

Vancil, were instrumental in making this connection.
