Instagrams of the Spirit Jesus said, “When the Spirit of Truth comes…He will glorify Me, for He will take what is mine and declare it to you” (John 16:13a, 14). Dear Brothers and Sisters of our Lord Jesus Christ, Instagram is a way of transferring words, pictures, or videos from one person to another in an instant via social media. As we celebrate the Day of Pentecost and the Sundays after Pentecost over the summer it is important to remember to stay in contact with God and each other. The Holy Spirit makes this possi- ble by sending more than mere words, pictures, or videos in His transmissions from God to us. His “instagrams,” sent via God’s words, Holy Baptism, and the Lord’s words spoken with the bread and wine of Holy Communion, are incarna- tional. He sends us Jesus and all the blessings that Jesus won for us in His death and resurrection. He even puts Jesus into our hearts and lives by literally putting in our mouths Christ’s very body and blood. This is done in an instant whenever and wherever the Gospel of Jesus Christ is proclaimed and His Sacra- ment is administered. The blessings of the Spirit do not end there. He also “bodies” and “bloods” us together with each other as He incorporates us into the body of Christ. Our “instagrams” to God are sent not via social media, but via the Holy Spirit who sees to it that our prayers always reach our Father in heaven. To put it another way, you are never without a “Wi-Fi” or “internet” connection. Instagram is always giving you a list of people to follow. Jesus said, “Follow me,” an invitation to join in receiving His “instagrams” of the Spirit. In follow- ing Jesus you receive the benefits of everything He has done and continues to do for you by His Spirit at work through His word. The story of His life be- comes yours. A blessed Pentecost season to you all! In Christ, Timothy J. Mech John M. Instagrams of the Spirit

Jesus said, “When the Spirit of Truth comes…He will glorify Me, for He will take what is mine and declare it to you” (John 16:13a, 14). The Holy Spirit makes this possi-ble by sending more than mere words, pictures, or videos in His transmissions from God to us. His “instagrams,” sent via God’s words, Holy Baptism, and the Lord’s words spoken with the bread and wine of Holy Communion, are incarna-tional. He sends us Jesus and all the blessings that Jesus won for us in His death and resurrection. He even puts Jesus into our hearts and lives by literally putting in our mouths Christ’s very body and blood. This is done in an instant whenever and wherever the Gospel of Jesus Christ is proclaimed and His Sacra-ment is administered. A blessed Pentecost season to you all! In Christ,

Staying Connected to Church and Community How is it possible that the summer months are already upon us? I feel like I blinked and the school year passed right by me! In truth, the year was filled with some challenges (we do live in a sinful world, after all!), but the joys heavily outweighed the challenges. Trinity is filled with a highly talented, dedicated staff and supportive families. What a pleasure it was for me to join the school community this year! (Take a look below for some fun pictures from one of our events that connect us to the Sheboygan com-munity: Jump Rope for Heart. Students raised funds for the American Heart Association, and celebrated with an afternoon of activities!) Heading into summer, we challenge our students and families to stay connected with our church and community, even though the kids are not in school. We teach our students that we are called to love the Lord our God and to serve our neighbor, and these two things go hand in hand. In John 15:5, Jesus re-minds us that we need to remain in Him if we are to do His work in the world. “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing,” Jesus says. What an important reminder! We cannot love and serve our neighbors in the community unless we are steeped in Word and Sacrament. Jesus goes as far as to say that we can do nothing if we are not connected to Him. This means bringing our children to church and Sunday school weekly, doing daily devotions at home and participating in events like VBS (save the date for Trinity’s VBS taking place July 16-20th from 9:00-12:00!). When our families are connected to Christ, we bear His fruit because His Word is in our minds and on our hearts. When we are constantly reminded of the for-giveness Jesus grants, we are more apt to forgive our neighbor; when we hear about how Jesus selfless-ly served everyone he encountered throughout His ministry, we are encouraged to serve our neighbors in need. As we review the Commandments and the Catechism, we learn how to live a God-pleasing life (and then model that for our neighbors!). These are all incredible benefits of remaining connected to our vine, Jesus Christ. As members of the congregation, THANK YOU for your support of the school through your time, talents and gifts! THANK YOU for serving in the areas of Sunday school and VBS (call the church office if you would like to volunteer for VBS this summer). THANK YOU for helping our school families to stay connected to Jesus all summer long. We will see you in church as we all receive the blessings Christ offers us through His Word and Sacrament!
