We, the parish of Saints Mary and Mathias Catholic Church, WELCOME all to CELEBRATE, TEACH and LIVE the Mission of JESUS CHRIST
Ss. Mary & Mathias Church 215 W. 8th St. Muscatine, IA 52761
From the Pastors Desk February 2nd , 2020 “Because he [Jesus] himself was tested through what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested.” These last lines of this Sunday’s 2nd reading from the Letter to the Hebrews should offer us great comfort. I was having a conversation with a friend a while back and we got to talking about some of life’s challenges and difficulties. My friend made the com-ment that life would be much easier if there was no sickness or disease, no wars or acts of terror, no divi-sion or political turmoil, and if everyone could just be kind and treat one another with respect.
We all know that this describes what we will experi-ence in heaven. Yet, we are still in this world and will continue to experience the tests, trials, turmoil, and uncertainties of life. So many times, when something bad happens to us, we turn inward on ourselves. We think the very worst and can become filled with fear and worry.
The truth is the first person we should turn to is Je-sus. After all, Jesus shares our humanity. He knows what it’s like to experience grief, sadness, and an-guish of heart. Because Jesus is not only true man, but true God, His grace, love, and mercy bring us consolation whenever we go through the sufferings of this life. In these moments, let us take comfort in this prayer attributed to St. Teresa of Avila.
“Let nothing trouble you. Let nothing frighten you. Everything passes, God never changes. Patience ob-tains all. Whoever has God wants for nothing. God
alone is enough”

Quien tenga a Dios no quiere nada. Sólo Dios es suficiente".
