Back in Jesus’ day, they did not have iPhones, iPads, Twitter, Facebook, television and all the other forms of distractions that we have today. The message here is not to trash our devices or delete our social media accounts, it is simply to recognise we can not focus fully on two things at once. When you are asking God to manifest the impossible in your life, you must also remove some of the ever increasing distractions to remain focused on God. In the scenario with Peter, he did not have control of the wind. However, he did have control over whether or not he would allow doubt to overtake his faith. Dear TLS Community,

Nonetheless, there was someone just as daring and radical as Jesus on the ship. Peter. Peter asked the Lord to bid him to come onto the water. Again, an impossible task but Jesus said one word, “come.” The scripture records Peter coming off the ship and doing the impossible. As he walked towards Jesus, he walked on water!

So the question becomes, how does one focus on God when confronted with the elements and cares of life? We find the answer in scripture. After Peter stepped off the ship he began to walk on water. He was doing what others feared, but his faith propelled him. For as long as Peter was focused on Jesus, Peter was able to do the illogical and the impossible. How-ever, once he saw the boisterous winds his focus shifted to the elements around him and he began to sink.

Have a prayer life: The first thing Peter does before stepping off the ship is ask God to bid him to come. He realized that before he can do the impossible, he must first communicate his request to God. Peter reaped the benefit of having Jesus in front of him, so he did not have to pray. However, we reap the same benefit

through prayer. Whether you are seeking to eliminate distractions in your life or asking God to provide something which appears humanly impossible, you must develop a prayer life. When you pray, aim to be targeted and specific.

Be willing to defy logic: After Peter asked Jesus to bid him to come, Jesus replied, “come.” Action on your part does not end with a prayer. God requires that you are an active participant in your miracles, blessings, and destiny. After Peter communicates with Jesus, Jesus puts the ball back in Peter’s court. It was up to Peter to activate his faith, defy all logic and walk on water towards Jesus. Keep your eyes on Jesus: To keep focused on Jesus and do the impossible, you must eliminate as many distractions as possible. Back in Jesus’ day, they did not have iPhones, iPads, Twitter, Facebook, television and all the other forms of distractions that we have today. When you are asking God to manifest the impossible in your life, you must also remove some of the ever increasing distractions to remain focused on God. HELP TO FIND A CURE...

Uniform Review Recently families have been surveyed to ascertain their thoughts regarding the TLS uniform. Early in 2017, the Uniform Review Committee will begin the review process by firstly collating and analysing data collected via the recent survey. We are not expecting wholesale changes to be made to the uniform, but parts of the uniform may be added, subtracted or improved. Any changes that are proposed will have the standard two-year transitional phase applied. We will keep the TLS community well informed of progress throughout the review.

NEED HELP?

This term in Christian Studies we have designed our own churches. We have learnt about Christian symbols and included these in our church pictures.

Class Contributions...

My church is in the jungle. It is on a branch in a tree. It has a massive yellow waterslide and two miniature golf courses. The Christian symbols in my church are Luther’s Rose, a bible, crosses and a candle. By Anders

My church is in the jungle because there is lots of wildlife that God created there. There are lots of crosses and there are stairs going up to the bell. The bell rings when church is on. The monkeys ring the bell! By Tom

My church is in a jungle in a canopy. You have to climb up a ladder to get in and go down a slide to get out. It has candles, a cross, a Bible, an altar and a lectern. It is a bush church and no intruders are allowed! By Billy

My church is called the Jungle Church because it is in the jungle. There is a banner that says “Go God”. The carpet says God and there are purple pews. There are crosses inside and outside. By Emily K

Congratulations to the 38 students who represented TLS at the Faith Challenge last Friday. We had some great performances on the track and in the field and the students displayed excellent behaviour throughout the day. TLS will be hosting the Faith Challenge in 2017 & 2018 so we will be looking for plenty of parent helpers in November next year. Watch this space!

Do you remember what it feels like to experience something for the first

time?

This week I have had the wonderful pleasure of watching children experience

some things for the first time.

I sat with a child as she experienced the enjoyment of using palette paints

for the first time – learning the process and watching the colours come alive

on her page.

In the Bush Block I observed children discovering how to make their own

paints through crushing rocks and adding water.

Boys leaping and jumping across the ‘river’ - experiencing the thrill of taking

a risk and experiencing success. Pride and joy in abundance!

Watching a spider spin a web on a bush or discovering a ‘new’ flower.

Managing to balance on a wobbly log without falling off!

Playing with a new friend and experiencing other perspectives and ideas.

Children’s eyes glued to the pages of a book as their educator enchants

them with a Bible story they’d never heard before..

As we progress into this busy time of year, it has been a wonderful

reminder this week to pause, observe and celebrate the joy of learning

alongside these amazing children!
